If I'm Dreaming, Please Don't Wake Me (Lock Please)

The drive from the club had taken much too long. It had taken every ounce of strength Shay had, not to crawl into his lap and thank him for the flowers. But she wanted to get back to the condo in one piece, so she 'played' nice, and just teased him with little kisses on his neck, and little nibbles on his ear, paying special attention to not distracting him too badly.

When he pulled into her drive, she didn't wait for him to let her out, but flew to her door to unlock it, and invite him in. Her shawl, and purse were thrown
onto the nearby couch, and she began removing her boots in the little lea way her mad dash had allowed for. As she was removing her last boot, she looked up to see his shadow in the door way.

"Please come in!"

She said breathlessly, and then flung herself into his arms.

"Chinese sounds wonderful"

He understood Shay's concerns, one just doesn't invite oneself to a party. However, from what he heard they wouldn't mind and well, artists are rather open..
"Well, it sounded as if it was an 'open' invitation. And artistic types tend to be less worried about protocol."
In truth, he had 'met' this Nyra before. Well not met exactly,he had been to her gallery opening and saw some paintings. But he had kept to himself and not introduced himself. "And it is costume required...hmm...I suppose we couldn't go as Adam and Eve,could we?" He grinned and pressed forward to give goddess in front of him a deep, passionate kiss.
" I am open to suggestions Milady"

"Ask about Creation Day..." "I will..."

"Shay...I was wondering..have you a date for the Creation Day Ball?"
Shay 19 years ago
'Holy smoke!' Shay had gone for months with no dates, and no viable prospects, only to now be sitting in the arms of the most fantastic man, who had just asked her on two dates, in almost as many minutes!

"I've no date, and I've no idea what that is...a Creation Ball...and when is it? Though, before you say more, if you're inviting me...and it would be cruel not to now..."

She grinned up at him.

"...then my answer is again a resounding yes!"

And with that she jumped up off his lap, and ran to her closet.

"But...what to wear, what to wear?"

She rummaged around, took out one dress, looked at it and then threw it on the floor. Digging deeper, she pulled out another hanger, with something draped over it, and tossed it with the other outfit. And then, remembering her hunger...

"Mathias? Would you please go place the order for the food? I've an account with a local Chinese restaurant, and the number is on the bulletin board in my office...next to the phone. And I didn't know if you wanted a shower, but there are clean towels hanging on the rack next to mine."

She smiled at him briefly, but then set about finding something fitting.
Mathias 19 years ago
Mathias smiled at Shay's acceptance.
"The Creator's Ball is an odd Nachton tradition. On Halloween night folk gather and pretend to be vampires. You come as your favorite vampire of fiction or dress up in historical garb. Think of it as a horror RenFest. Luckily there are very few 'goth' kids so it really isn't so bad." Odd tradition indeed...walking amongst mortals as what you are, pretending you are someone pretending to be someone. It was a dizzying game that Mathias preferred not to play. However,it was good form to go and Mathias was polite. Damned foolish game if you ask me,which indeed they hadn't.

"That still leaves the question of what to wear tonight..unless you liked my Adam and Eve suggestion..."

A shower made sense, but all Mathias wanted to do was hold onto the beauty snuggled next to him. Maybe she could join him.... "Would you care to share the shower,or is one a day enough for
you?" He grinned innocently at Shay, his best beatific look. Shay's rumbling stomach reminded him that food was needed as well, and when she pointed out the menu and phone he got up, the ever gallant knightand strode naked to the phone and menu.

"Anything specific you want or do you trust me?"
Shay 19 years ago
"Mathias, your suggestion has much merit; however, something you don't know about me yet...I'm not fond of sharing."

She momentarily got semi-serious, and put her hand on his shoulders, wanting him to realize what she was saying. She kept the humor in her voice though, not wanting him to think she was some kind of jealous psychotic.

And as she let her hand trail down his chest, she lightly took hold of him, and rubbed the tip of him against her.

"Unless you know of some leaves about...large enough to hide...your charms?"

And she released him before she got into something they really didn't have time for now.

"Vampires...hmmmm...do you have a costume for that ball yet? Would it be possible to go as the same character to both parties?"

Spontaneity was fun, and exhilarating, but sometimes some things just required a bit of planning.

His offer on the shower was hard to pass up, but she'd need to reserve that experience for another time, as well.

"I trust you explicitly...I'm sure whatever you order, I'll like...as long as it's cooked, and doesn't have any eyes."

She laughed and turned her attentions back to the closet. She was a bit overwhelmed at trying to find something to wear.
Mathias 19 years ago
He groaned at her touch...they really didn't have the time for this...but....nonono...focus. Thankfully Shay released him before they could test that resolve. He returned Shay's look, smiling softly after a moment.
"That's ok dear, I'm not one to be shared" kissing her gently

Looking at his clothing from last night he remarked. " One could wear both I assume, However, I don't intend to go as a rumpled executive to the ball as well." Eyes sparkling he again smiled at Shay. Mathias couldn't help it - the woman made him happy. Future be damned for now, he was going to do what he never had before..let go and enjoy himself. Something clicked in his head then. Maybe that was the 'secret to redemption' had him been seeking so long.Forgiving himself - for how can one expect the forgiveness of others if one cannot do so internally?

"I do have a costume - its based on some 10th century etchings I saw in Romania." Ok,more like some 10th century etchings he had been in...

Picking up the phone,he called in the order
" Yes..this is on Shay O'Mannon's account..ok good. We will have Chocho beef,General Tso's Chicken and Mongolian Beef. Oh! And some Crab Rangoon and Egg Rolls. Ok, ok, thank you"

Setting the phone back down he joined Shay back under the covers. "Did you know I had the Devil's Own Time finding Crab Rangoon when I was in LA? For some reason it isn't common there - or at least wasn't to the places I frequented." Mathias wasn't pleased about Shay taking care of dinner, he was old fashioned in some ways - but best to let it lie...this wasn't The Old Days(tm).

Regretfully,Mathias got up. "Well I had best get that shower before the food arrives. I put myself in your capable hands for tonight Dear Shay" He winked at her and headed to the shower.

The hot water felt good on hm,easing the kinks last night caused. Remember Mathias, you are over 1000 years old he reminded himself.
Shay 19 years ago
She smiled when he agreed they were exclusive...she hadn't thought him to be a player, and he had told her there wasn't anyone else...but being so new to each other, sometimes things needed repeating.

She also was amazed at what he ordered to eat...she loved each dish...down to the crab rangoon.

"I think they call them fried wantons there...but they haven't been around in California long, its true. I think they're yummy...you did great with the ordering."

She pulled out another dress, wrapped in cellophane, and held it up for Mathias to see.

"I'm sure I've nothing to go with anything tenth century...I think this is sixteenth or seventeenth though...do you think it would go well enough with yours?"

And the dress Shay held up was a long blue velvet overdress, with a soft white linen underskirt. There was a silver collar, with red satin insets, that was also used to gather the sleeves, and boarder the hem. It was something she'd worn a few years back to a college event, but it had been tailor made, and done very well. It cost her a pretty penny too, so she'd taken great care of it.

She hung it on the door, and found some very plain black flats that were innocuous enough to work. She might have looked for some short black boots had she more time, but the dress was long so the shoes would be hidden most of the time anyway.

When she turned around she saw he'd gone into the bathroom, and she hurried to straighten up the bed, and see if she had any jewelry that might work with the dress.

When she heard him shut off the shower, she went in and picked up a towel off the rack. As he got out and stood in front of her, she began to dry him off. But as luck would have it, before she got very far there was a knock at the door. Reaching behind the bathroom door, she pulled a robe off the hook there, and threw it around herself as she hurried to the door.

"Just a minute!"

She yelled, and after confirming it was the restaurant making the delivery, she opened the door, and accepted the bag. She signed for the food, tipped the delivery guy, and waved him off.

"Food will be ready when you are."

She shouted back to Mathias, as she carried everything to the kitchen to ready.
Mathias 19 years ago
"Ok,almost ready" He called back, pulling on the wrinkled remains of last nights clothes. Perhaps I should keep a set of clothes here...and mentally slapped himself for that. Don't think too far ahead Old Man - you are treading dangerous ground.

He saw the dress Shay had shown him earlier. Its blues and silver matched his outfit to the ball perfectly. The styles were centuries apart but definitely meshed well.

He headed into the kitchen, eager to eat with Shay - another first for the burgeoning relationship.

"The dress will work fine with my outfit,Shay" he said, kissing her neck as he snuggled en route to sit down.
Shay 19 years ago
She had set out plates, put spoons in the boxes, and set everything on the table. Forks AND chopsticks...since Shay didn't know if Mathias would know how to use the chopsticks...though in the back of her mind she thought he would.

Ice water with a twist of lemon, and coffee completed the service on the table. It was extremely informal, but the next time she had him over, she'd have to cook him one of the few things she did well, and serve it up proper. She wanted him to know she knew how to be a good hostess.

His kiss on her neck was something she could get used to. Having him here would be something she could get used to...

"Mathias? If you want, we could go by your place after dinner, you could dress in your costume, and maybe grab a couple changes of clothes...for later...in case you decide to stay over again?"

She watched for his reaction, as she sat down at the table. She pushed everything in front of him, indicating he should go first, and she picked up the ice water to sip. She hoped he didn't think it was too forward of her asking him to keep clothes here. Knowing he was looking for a place to live, she came within inches of asking him to move in with her...but that would REALLY be moving too fast.

"Mathias? If you want, we could go by your place after dinner, you could dress in your costume, and maybe grab a couple changes of clothes...for later...in case you decide to stay over again?"

Mathias thought quickly...Shay could not enter the Domicile, and for her to even know about it was forbidden.
"We could, or as we are between my place and the party I could run back, grab some clothes and pick you up as well"
Keeping clothes here? Well he had thought about it..once again Shay's mind echoed his. And the idea of waking up next to Shay was far from unpleasant.

Watching Shay set the plates and food out made Mathias smile. She was a strong woman, and yet here she made sure he ate first. Taking a plate, he heaped on some General Tso's chicken and Mongolian Beef and added a couple Crab Rangoon. Setting the plate down,he waited for Shay to get her food.

"So,tell me about this book you are writing?"
Shay 19 years ago
"Oh sure, that sounds like a great plan. When we've finished here, you can go change, and by the time you get back, HOPEFULLY I'll be ready!"

She gave him a wink, but knew it never took her long to dress, and since she normally wore little makeup...yes, that was the best idea.

Taking a little of everything and putting it on her plate, Shay picked up the chopsticks and ate a couple bites, before she spoke.

"The book is why I moved to Nachton...and this party couldn't be more perfect...more advantageous...it's about vampires."

Picking up a crab Rangoon, Shay bit into it with gusto. The creamy, crab middle was wonderful, and the crunchy wanton outside was the perfect combination of tastes.

"It's fiction of course." Shay laughed. "But I am writing it very realistically, and very much in today's time. And I'm writing with the thought that they live among us...we co-exist...but just don't know about them."

A sip of water later, Shay realized she should have served tea with the meal.

"I'm sorry...just goes to show how bad I am at this hostessing...would you prefer tea with the food?"

It wouldn't be that difficult to ready a pot, though Shay had been eating like there was no tomorrow, and had just about already reached her fill.

"I'm not writing it in the style of the Blade movies...I'm keeping the violence to a minimum...I guess it's got a lot of romance, and some might say a little erotic. I've got to have the eroticism...that's what sold my first book so well."

And Shay gave that thought a bit of a smirk. It was ridiculous, but some had called her first book pornography! Though those people were the 'bible thumpers' who made a career of seeking out new artists, to shut down before they began. Shay had survived that torment, and grown from the experience. It had also helped sell her book, so how could she be TOO angry.

"But right now I'm still in the research mode, and barely have my outline done."

Once she started writing, she would definitely show it to Mathias. She wanted his opinion, of course, but she also was trusting that he would think it well written and interesting. That kind of support would be such a nice change.
Mathias 19 years ago
Mathias deftly picked up pieces of chicken and beef with his chopsticks, though watching Shay eat was entertaining as well.
"Water is just fine, but thank you"

"Vampires eh? Well since Ann Rice found God I suppose the Children of the Night needed a new spokesman" He chuckled, but this could be worrisome. Most of his kind found the so called 'vampire' movies and books amusing and useful, since they contained more falsehoods than truth. But there were those who grew concerned with humanity's curiosity in the Information Age.

"Well I know you can do erotic..." His voice trailed off as he smiled, gazing over the beautiful form he had been intimate with not too long before.
"Pity though, I've always enjoyed those Blade movies...Wesley Snipes is quite the action star." And had any of those characters been real vampire, they'd have long met the sun.

"If you like sometime we could discuss research,I heard a lot of folklore while in Romania. Even went to Vlad Tepes castle." Truth be told,Mathias was extra careful while there. They were still a superstitious lot in Eastern Europe, despite Communism's atheist boot on their throat. Doing research with Shay sounded like a good way to spend more time together, assuming they could focus on work

Finishing his meal,Mathias pushed the plate towards the center of the table. "Tell you what, let me run back and grab some clothes and I will see if I can find an appropriate outfit. Something different than the Creation Ball." I still have that armor and surcoat I had recreated for research...hmmmm

He got up from the table and leaned over Shay, letting her scent intoxicate him. A lingering, regretful kiss later and he was out the door and headed to The Domicile.

"My first book was so much easier to research, since I was able to use much of my life experiences. My second book, being that it also revolved around murder, and the police force, and was set in LA, was also easier, but less of a challenge. Finding a totally new topic seemed the way to go...it keeps me interested, and hopefully my readers as well. Who knows, I might find a whole new group of fans."

She blushed, surprisingly when he commented on her 'erotic' abilities. She hadn't known anyone else in her life that could make her blush like he could.

"Oh yes! I'd so love to hear anything you could tell me about Romania...I'm sure a little historical information on vampires in general would be very helpful."

She beamed at his suggestion, and envisioned the two of them lying on the sofa, in front of the fire...wrapped in each others arms, as he told his tales.

When they had both finished eating, Shay caressed his cheek as he kissed her good bye, and rapidly went about cleaning the kitchen.

Then it was back to the closet. If he was going to go with something different for the costume party, she would try and see if she could create something different as well. And the clothes went flying, in her search.
Shay 19 years ago
Just about ready to give up totally, Shay had an idea.

She found brown leotards and tights from when she took dance in her last year of college. Fortunately Shay was a bit of a pack rat, and rarely through anything away. With her black boots, some makeup, and a little ingenuity, she thought she might be able to pull off another costume. She knew it wouldn't compare to those more professional in nature, but she didn't think it would shame her or Mathias.

Her hair was still damp, so she decided to start there...if she couldn't get her hair or face to look proper, the costume would fall flat. So she dug through all the makeup she had, and laid it out on the bathroom counter. Her hair was the first to arrange...and with some mousse, and her diffuser, she amazingly got it into shape much more quickly than she could have imagined. Someone must be watching out for her these days...everything seemed to come together so easily. But she wasn't going to question it...not yet anyway.

Taking her eyeliner, she began drawing on her face...adding makeup...powder...more eyeliner... Shay was treating her face as a canvas, and grinned at the picture she was creating.

Feeling fairly satisfied with her hair and makeup, Shay quickly dressed. She decided to discard the idea of the boots, as they were too heavy for her 'cat' legs.

She had another idea, found a pumice stone, and rubbed it along the material on her body...she smiled when she saw the way it raised the nap on the leotard, and proceeded to rub it all over. After she got it sufficiently...fuzzy...she opened her closet and checked herself in the full length mirror. It was a slightly silly costume, but she thought people would still be able to tell she was a lion. She hoped Mathias would.

Lastly she decided she needed a tail. The tie to an old beige chenille robe, stuffed into the leg of a stocking, and then tied, would work. A bent wire hanger would also give the tail shape, but be impossible to sit on...so she left that part out.

Now...to wait for Mathias to pick her up. She wondered what he had found to dress as, and couldn't quell the excitement that started to build...not at seeing him dress as something else...but just at seeing him, period.

And then there was a knock on the door, and the evening continued!
