Connie and Nyra's Halloween Party - 29B (Nyra's Loft)

A burly security guard from Nachton Security sits behind a table at the top of the stairs. His table has signs announcing events planned at specific times as well as explanations of other events. The door prizes are described except for a closely guarded secret Grand Prize. Behind his table sits three pumpkins that can be won by putting your name into the bowl upon the table. These ceramic works of art are painted by the resident artist and are roughly the size of a volleyball. One depicts a graveyard with ghosts and zombies, another shows a spooky mansion complete with gargoyles and Gothic architecture, and the last has intricate dragons terrorizing knights in armor.

The door to 29B is obscured by a curtain made up of a multitude of thin strips of material. The torn and frayed edges are soft, most are braided together, making an illusion of a solid wall. Once through, the guest discovers they have entered a gypsy enclave.

Colorful lengths of fabric meet in the center of the ceiling and then spread out to the walls, giving the impression of the inside of a tent. Large pillows are scattered around the floor in conversation pieces, though there are two fabric draped couches for extra seating. There is an island covered in succulent dishes, edible arrangements of appetizers, fruit, vegetables and desserts. The attendant behind the island proffers water and sodas with your snack.

The bathroom is disguised by trees that almost reach the top of the glass brick wall. Atop the wall sit an array of colorful candles burning brightly.

There is a circle of cushions around a short table. Here you find the Pumpkin Painting contest in full swing. Each participant can paint their very own 5" diameter pumpkin with the array of items, from oils to watercolors with wide brushes to tiny. There are glitters, glue, googly eyes, pompoms and pipe cleaners in a wide assortment of colors. The small sign at the table reads: Door Prize #3 to the Winner of the Best Pumpkin Contest. Judging to be held at midnight.

The bronze sculpture in the middle of the table is labeled Door Prize #3. It is a dark piece, suitable for Halloween of a female figure floating upward as if her soul is rising to heaven, while beneath the figure is a broken skeleton. The piece is small for the artist, only twelve inches tall by eight inches long and five inches wide.

Another circle is a lovely gypsy woman applying Henna or paint upon any willing guests. Either to accent an outfit, help one that came uncostumed or to allow the guest to take home a fleeting reminder of their fun.

Nyra the host of 29B is standing near the circle of couches, greeting guests and chatting with friends. Her gypsy costume is so amazing it takes friends a moment to recognize her. Her head is covered by a bronze scarf which trails down her back. Her undershirt is a warm cream off the shoulder creation with long sleeves that are split open from the top of the shoulder to the wrist, but tied closed at the elbow. A deep burgundy waist cincher accents her curves and draws ones attention to the double skirts in honey underneath black. The tiara around her forehead jingles with gold coins, matching the bronze scarf similarly adorned around her waist. Her bare feet display burgundy toenails and gold bell anklets that jingle with her every step. Kohl makeup complete the effect, making her the perfect gypsy wench.

The loft is a spray of colors from bright yellow, warm gold, heady maroon, luscious burgundy, royal blue, emerald green and pitch black. The lighting is sufficient for each area to see clearly but dim for candles and the scattered brass lamps to look flickeringly atmospheric. The scent of sandalwood incense is noticeable but not overpowering.

"It was a pleasure meetin ya ,Captain."

"Likewise, swabbie, twere a pleasure havin' ye strut my deck and hoist my sails!"

Smiling warmly as Jan started to leave, Nyra was happy. "Thank you so much for coming! I hope we can get together again soon. Take care!"

Looking around she noticed the help had started clearing up the few things that had been left for last. The large pillows were placed in protective bags and put into a bin. They had even neatened up her paint supplies and cleaned the table off. She had already asked them to leave the fabric ceiling decorations but most everything else was slowly turning back into her apartment. It was nice to see they were as efficient cleaning up as they were helping out during.

Nyra hooked her arm into Connie's and rested her head on the taller woman's shoulder. Her smile happy but her eyes heavy. Hopefully the clean up was done in 29A because that loft had been empty longer. The thought that they should go check on it was interupted by a jaw cracking yawn.

Connie leaned her head onto Nyra's, smiling tenderly and only somewhat possessively. The piratical accent melted into southern belle as Connie whispered gently, "It's a good thing we scheduled this early, love, or we'd have to deal with zombies! Both the hostesses an' the guests!"

She giggled at her own joke. Considering the leather-clad vampire woman, not to mention the probable attendance of other, real, live vampires - "Irony much?" - the zombie crack wasn't too far off the mark.

She gently kissed the gypsy's wrapped head.
"I think you have your choice of bed, though. Gypsy harem or pirate captain's bunk? And of course whether or not you wanted company, though I'm sure said company would be well behaved..."

Connie hoped the mental ending to that comment, "only if you want it to be," was apparent, because damn if Nyra didn't look awesome in her costume.

Nyra felt safe and content as Connie leaned her raven head atop her own. Her giggle was quiet at the thought of zombies, though that would have been a good theme as well.

"mmm, Captain's bunk I think. Especially since I dont want the sun waking me at 6 am after this long lovely night." Snuggling into the warmth of her lover she was almost ready to fall asleep on her feet.

"I fear my own company may be lacking, I feel completely exhausted." Another yawn caught her by surprise.

It was a good thing she had paid everyone up front, though she did have an envelope for everyone with tips in it. Where she put it, she couldnt recall just now. She had to remember before these great wenches left. Rubbing her eyes with the heal of her hand she asked Connie sleepily.
"Do you recall where I put that half size manilla envelope at?"

Connie reached into the pouch at her belt with her free hand and dangled it in front of Nyra's face. "You left it on the harem table, so I grabbed it figuring the pirate should be in charge of the important booty."

Grinning salaciously, though Nyra couldn't see it, the vampire's hand slid down the gypsy's back and gently cupped copious posterior and gave a soft double pat. With a piratic snarl, she quipped, "Arr, me questin' fingers be findin' all sorts of priceless booty taday!"

The food and drink was finally isolated in containers. She really wished she could have sent some home with leaving partygoers, but at least Nyra wouldn't necessarily have to cook for a while. Which left time for other things, like decorating, undecorating, or long, important chats which have been left untended for longer than they should have been...

Nyra snuggled closer and enjoyed the pats to her posterior. "Your so talented at finding treasure. I would let you examine your find but I have to get that envelope and pass out the tips for our helpers before they leave."

And it looked like they were almost done. Just a few final things the ladies were cleaning up and putting out onto the landing. Soon enough they were smiling and going next door to do any final help there.

The couple stayed together but Nyra directed them to walk towards her cupboard where she pulled out a small overnight bag she had packed with some clothes for tomorrow. No sense running back and forth in dirty clothes or a towel tomorrow.

"Shall we, m'love?"

Connie couldn't help but feel confused as Nyra hefted the overnight bag. As they walked side-in-side over to the other apartment, Connie's brain raced.

When the gypsy set the bag down, Connie spun her carefully and placed a soft kiss on her nose. Staring deep into those hazel eyes, tired though they looked, the pirate felt herself get slowly sucked into their endless abyss...
"Wench, when ye gonna just move yer stuff over here?"

After all, Connie thought, she could use the other loft as a workspace, and not worry about accidentally mussing art. Not to mention it allowed for the seperation of work and play Nyra had mentioned her mother preached...

Not that Connie ever really payed attention to people who preached, but she was obviously a wise woman whom she'd eventually like to meet. Especially since she was courting her daughter. And had raised such a wonderful daughter.

The bag was heavier than she remembered or she was just pretty tired. It got put on the floor quickly. Who knew socks and sweatpants could weigh so much.

She looked into the beautiful gray eyes as Connie spun her about, while keeping her upright. The kiss made her smile, albeit tiredly. The offer sounded like the best thing since, Nyra didnt know what!

"Are you asking me to move in with you? Because I gladly accept. Though I need my space for painting."

The inviation perked her right up, though she did not feel her eyelids lift, just her spirits. Perhaps they could talk more once the crew was tipped and gone. Which looked to be momentarily.

Connie nodded solemnly. "I'm asking. But I don't want you to answer right now. We're both exhausted, you're just better at hiding it than I am. Sleep on it, against me, and we'll cover that in the morning."

And a few other things...

Connie got into her unjammies and helped Nyra out of hers after the remainder of the caterers, guards, and even Bertrand (who seemed to have wanted to talk to Nyra about the prospects he'd garnered for her but she shooed him out) had finally left as well.

She pulled back the Old Glory flag covering her bed, and then the quilt, and when she turned around to take Nyra's hand, saw the nude artist sleeping against the edge of the couch. She lifted Nyra into her arms and set her carefully in bed. With a comforted sigh, she scooted in behind her elevationally challenged lover.
