Late Night Meanderings (Open)
Edwin had only recently gotten to the city, so he hadn't been able to spend a lot of time exploring. Now, after spending way too much time studying, he decided that he needed a breather. Pulling on his hoodie, he headed out into the crisp night air.
Wandering a little aimlessly around the city, Edwin didn't travel too far from his new home. He found a nighttime garden and decided that it would be a nice place for a meandering stroll. A couple walked past him, and he quickly shuffled to the side, not wanting to be in their way.
Stopping by a bush with silvery flowers, Edwin tucked his hands into the pocket of his hoodie. The flowers here were very pretty. He wondered if anyone would mind if he plucked one.
(OOC: Very mega open. He's shy, but he wants to play.)
“That’s good sounds like a plan too.”
Oh her age um well just give the boy the line you give everyone. No need to worry, its not like he knew. With an easy smile, Pak was politely vague.
“Off and on for a while now. You’re never really completely done when you deal with technology but mostly its just reading on my own these days.”
"True, I guess you really do have to keep up with things. It must be frustrating to get used to the way something works and then have to start things over again when something new comes out." See, new was indeed bad. Edwin wasn't just making that up. "Do you ever want anything more solid and static?"
Wow, why had she never thought of it like that? For some reason Pak had always looked at the future and sure, she bitched and moaned with some of the new things, after all, she wasn’t a saint, but for the most part, it was improving.
“Actually no. I mean if I did the same thing all the time, if I could predict it I’d get bored. At least this way, even if I don’t agree with the way things are going I get to learn and keep up, it’s always a challenge.”
"Doing the same thing can be a challenge to. You just try to do it perfectly each time." Edwin would much rather be perfect at one thing then good at a lot of things.
“Perfection is something to be strived for, I’ll grant you that. However, I’m not sure anything is ever really perfect. Especially in art, after all perfect is all in the interpretation so how do you know when it’s perfect?”
It was really quite simple for Edwin. Especially since having one challenge all the time meant that he didn't have to take on new challenges, for the most part.
Well it seemed like Edwin would never be a techy. Not that there was anything wrong with that. Although he’d probably be a hell of a coder, if the language didn’t change on him, he’d be fine.
“I guess I’ll have to settle for being damned good, but not perfect.”
“Well for music that would work. But when technology advances every day you can’t afford to be perfect on the outdated stuff.”
"Umm...what about people who have old computers and refuse to get a new one?" Edwin asked, trying to find a silver lining and some middle ground. "I'm sure there are a lot of people who are clinging to their old stuff." Like Edwin would have if he were very computer-oriented.
"And if you can't be perfect, I think damned good a close second."
“If I ever need an optimist I will come and find you.”
Oh damned, that back up was probably done now. In fact, it was probably done a while again. She really should get back to it. Pak stood, still grinning at Edwin’s optimism.
“Thanks for the chat Edwin, but I’ve got an update I need to finish or the whole thing will come crashing down around my ears. Maybe I’ll see you around some time.”
Finding a trashcan as she walked Pak tossed the now cold cigarette butt and paused just long enough to light another. She wouldn’t smoke while she was working so better do it now.
