Time to face the world
Seven days passed and Meegan spent the majority of it in a crying depressed haze. Until this particular morning. She woke with a clarity in her mind that startled her. She showered on her own, also a first in over a week, and dressed carefully, even plucking a few stray eyebrows, arranging her hair just so, and applying meticulous make-up.
With a little help from Rachyl she dressed in a black corset, black ankle length leather skirt, and a black leather shrug. She completed the outfit with knee high leather boots and took herself and Rachyl into work. Well the cab driver drove, but still the sentiment is the same.
The majority of the morning was spent speaking with her employees and catching up on the enormous pile of work on her desk. She needed to draw her spring line, but she was in the mood to plan a party. A big party and so she called Rachyl into her office.
The restaurant was very ornate and oriental. Rachyl wondered how her decorating classes had skipped over this ... indescribably beautiful method of decorating. It had a homeyness, but also an exotic flavor to it which she imagined was quite 'normal' for such places or such people, but unique and different for others.
"I'd like..." Rachyl was stymied in her attempt to order when Meegan did and stared at the deep red wine on the table when her companion turned to her. She was about to reach for her wine to raise it in a toast when the designer said, "I think we should buy a house." and nearly knocked over her glass of water.
"Uhm. Okay. Why? Where? Who? When? What? Two bedroom? Two offices or one big one? Pool? Suburbs, garage?"
"I was thinking at least three bedrooms so we can have a guest room, and a big bright office space. I'm thinking close to town, but not in the industrial district like my...my condo was."
Wow she'd forgotten that particular wound and she hated how it still stung on top of everything else.
Then the "three rooms, so we can have a guest" registered and she felt disappointed somewhat... Then chided herself silently for being selfish again.
"Close enough to town for the bus? Or will we be getting..." she hoped the slight tremble of fear didn't show through when she asked, "a car?" She continued blithely past that, though, by saying, "We'll definately need a fence, to give Dill room to play and run, and maybe we could even get him a brother."
She'd completely lost the whole car thing, she had an answer for it and everything, but the dog thing was huge. She really didn't think she could have a second dog and live through it.
"Oh yeah a car. Um, no I think we could do the bus thing. I hate driving."
An evil smirk grew on her face as she said, "We definately want to avoid cats. Wouldn't want to project the wrong image to our neighbors."
The waitress returned with an armful of plates as Rachyl said, "At least you have a license."
Meegan picked up her fork and dug into the crispy salad the waitress had left and smiled at Rachyl.
"What do you think about having a pool?"
She chuckled and the two passed through lunch scheming about a new house. Meegan and Rachyl were properly awed when the tiny chef came and cooked their food before them with his little displays of shrimp tail juggling, egg spinning and onion volcanoes. As they left to return to the office, beyond stuffed, Meegan sure she wouldn't eat again until tomorrow, she grinned at Rachyl again.
"We should play hookey Wenesday and go house hunting. I was going to say tomorrow, but I have a meeting with the Convention Center about decorations and another with three different caterers. Do you want to come to that one? They are always fun when you have more than one competing against each other, they really out do themselves."
Rachyl gave Meegan a quick hugsqueeze and thanked her for lunch.
