Theo beamed at Jan’s encouragement, finding him quite sportsmanlike, and watched as he picked his target. Her eyes widened a little and she bit down on the knuckle of her thumb to keep from saying anything; she could be wrong, but Dani’s powder blue pea coat was pretty recognizable and she had a certain way of moving her small frame.
She grinned when Jan leaned over the rail, the gesture making him look like the teenager most people probably saw. There was something almost nostalgic about it and she tried to take a picture with her brain of that moment of youth.
It made her feel old for an instant before she shook it off, and by then Jan was landing back on solid ground, returning triumphant, and she allowed herself a snicker.
“You know who that was?” She peeked over the ledge in time to see Dani heading toward the entrance before laughing again. “That was Dani. If she catches us we’ll be locked in the closet until it’s time to feed the hounds!” She made a dramatic throat slitting gesture with one finger. “And then…” Her eyes felt so wide they were surely consuming half her face, but then she giggled, likely giving the game away. Of course Dani would do no such thing; she probably wouldn’t even be mad, though since she had never seen Dani angry it was hard to say, but it was amusing to pretend.
She gave Jan the most solemn look she could muster under the circumstances and grabbed hold of his hand.
“There’s still time for us to escape! Perhaps if we hide she won’t find us.”
She moved quickly toward the entrance, pausing only to look over her shoulder before flinging the glass door open.
“We’ll have to be quick though! She’s little and speedy!”
Pretty shiny tower!
Theo waved her goodbyes to Timothy as he took his leave and gestured for Jan to come on in before looking around the lobby for anything her new friend might find interesting.
There was, she reasoned, quite a lot to see on one's first visit, but the lobby could only hold so much excitement and she finally settled for taking Jan's hand and leading him to the flat paneled LCD screen embedded in the wall by the elevators.
"You should meet MARI, then we can go to the interesting places."Â?
She bounced on her heels and looked up to the ceiling.
"MARI? I have a friend I'd like you to meet."Â?

Jan looked blankly at Theo for a moment. Should he know the woman, at least he was pretty certain it was a woman, that he just tossed a snowball at? He could only think of a few people in Evenhet that he should know. Did he just hit Megan Björn with a snowball? Jan snickered at the thought. Ooops.
Theo clarified that is was someone named Danny? In powder blue? Oh, no she said she. Hmmm.. he wasn't sure why he should know her but Jan did his best to look properly impressed by the threat of decapitation and willingly let himself be dragged by the hand away from the railing.
In a properly hushed voice, he asked.
"So who is she? Some serious mercenary type?"Â?
For all he knew he just hit their head of security or something and they were actually in danger of being reprimanded in some way. Some people just didn't take a joke very well.
Jan crouched behind Theo pretending to be silent while humming the Mission Impossible theme.

Theo turned around and leaned in, matching Jan’s low voice with her own, and widened her eyes dramatically.
“Oh…it’s much worse.”
She opened the glass door and kept low, the large ferns tangling with her snow damp hair, whispering as they worked their way down the path.
“She’s Alfarinn’s assistant. And you know what that means.”
Upon arriving back at the entrance into the building proper, she opened the door and peered out, looking both ways to check for passersby before creeping out and waving for Jan to follow her, hugging the walls all the way to the elevator.
“’Means…she can put us to work in the dungeons!”
She stepped into the elevator when the doors opened, taking Jan’s hand to bring him with her, and hit the button for her floor. Then she turned and shrugged.
“Actually I work in the basement. It’s not so bad.”

Jan laughed when Theo explained who the woman was. So he had hit Alfarinn's assistant. He hoped the woman had a sense of humor and wasn't some ancient vampire with extraordinary senses or his goose might -really- be cooked.
He resumed his humming of mystery themes as they snuck around the walls and through the plants. The Pink Panther music seemed most appropriate for the moment and so he continued with it.
"Da dum da dum...da dum da dum..."Â?
Reaching the safety of the elevator, he straightened and noticed that Theo had done the same thing. She turned to him and dropped the game by announcing that she worked in the basement and that it wasn't all that bad.
Jan smiled and reached up to gently pull a twig out of her hair. Holding it out, he raised his eyebrows and said.
"Well that's a relief but it is just wrong that you are hidden away in the basement. I think we should speak to management and get you an office in the main lobby where everyone can see how pretty you are. People shouldn't be deprived of beauty. It makes them depressed."Â?
Scratching his jaw thoughtfully, Jan changed his mind.
"On second thought, it would likely distract them and they wouldn't get any work done. Sadly perhaps the basement is for the best. Like Rapunzel in her tower, Theodosia has her basement."Â?
He grinned at her and asked.
"So is there a prince in this story or could one apply for the job? Hmmm best to ask if there are dragons to battle first..but then every task worth doing has its hazards."Â?

Theo plucked the stick Jan had pulled from her hair with quick fingers and stashed it into her little purse, which now also held a pair of opera glasses and two tickets. She turned to watch the numbers go down, counting the beats and trying to puzzle out if Jan was actually humming a tune back there or if she was just hearing things as always. It would be very interesting if it were the voices humming; they hummed for so few people.
She giggled a little at the idea that working in the basement deprived others of beauty and considered explaining that it would be hard to work with people looking at her when Jan amended his statement.
“That is a preferable arrangement to using my hair as a climbing device; thank goodness for elevators.”
The elevator, speaking of which, stopped and the doors slid open with a light ding, and she peered out first one way, then the other, before stepping out, still using her ‘sneaky’ walk. Her rooms were not far from here and she led the way unerringly to her door. She shook her head when Jan inquired about dragons, smiling a little.
“No princes. And nothing quite so grave as a dragon. Perhaps a few ogres, a demon or two…”
She looked over her shoulder at Jan as she opened her door, her expression slightly sad.
“But then, I suppose everyone has demons. Perhaps a dragon would be more exciting.”
