Now...this was certainly an overdue event. Smiling, Alec looked around the wide spaces of Nachton's famed library. He'd been a bit remiss in keeping up to date on his periodicals since moving here. Though it wasn't what the building was known for, he knew they'd have the architectural journals that he was interested in. After that, perhaps he'd read up on the local history since he was mostly living with it. It might be interesting to see how many of the founders were still wandering around.
Chuckling quietly, he removed his jacket and stretched, heading in the direction that the sign indicated that he would find the magazine reading area. Getting a somewhat stern look for an undisclosed offense from one of the staff members, he wondered if that was something that they trained librarians to do. "Any time someone is not hard at work or looking studious, give them the Librarian Stare," that slight knitting of the brow, a tiny cock of the head to the right, look a bit down the nose and purse the lips. Classic. He'd never seen it on a man's face before, but the look was unmistakeable. He was certainly Staff.
Taking a few minutes, he selected his magazines and sat down on the rather soft couch in the reading area and started to get caught up on the thoughts of the industry for the past few months. He really ought to subscribe to many of these, but he didn't see the point on spending money on something that he could get for free. Oh, get for free, legally.
Sighing with contentment, he settled in for some serious reading on breakfast nooks.
She didn't want to sit next to the red-haired man. She couldn't place why, but she kept her unwillingness to do so off her face. Instead, she grinned at Alec and blushed again, saying, "Thank you, Alec, but I think that it and I would better get along if I were to sit in it, to show it once and for all who's bossette. Can't have it going around telling the other chairs how easy humans are to trip now, can we?"
Wiggling her eyebrow at the man before her, she remembered what Fallon had whispered and sighed as she plopped down in the chair. She was also glad that her glasses had stayed on, and that she hadn't had any books yet. "I must admit, I never expected a library to be so lively at such a late hour. And I've seen my fair share. Of both libraries and late hours."
"Well if you don't want the couch, I'll take it," she said with a grin, keeping a wary eye on the librarian.
She plopped herself down and leaned back, stretching her arms out after holding her books and wiggling her fingers.
"Who knew the library was so much fun here in Nachton?"
The red headed accountant looked up as some ladies came into view...neither of which he knew...and there was a flurry of introductions that left his head a little dizzy. Hopefully he could keep them straight later if he ever saw them again... Addison did his best to be polite, saying hello to each, but the sudden activity and noise of a new woman focused his attention on her. He smiled, giving a soft, amused snort. That was something he would normally do. Addison moved over a little more to give Montana some more space if she were so inclined to sit with him.
(OOC: Sorry - tried to post earlier during my break and coulnd't get to the board...and never saved it.)
Alright, I'll take the comfy chair, then. Well, mostly comfy. What the hell is that?
Squriming to get comfortable, Alec hid the motion that picked Aishe's pocket and handed her pocket knife to her.
Geez woman, trying to kill me? Wow, even has its toothpick and tweezers still! Nice!
Settling in, he continued.
And yes...the library is more hopping than I'd thought it'd be on a weeknight. I suppose a lot of folk are here for work and research and whatnot...not loafers like I am. So what're y'all in for? Project research or funnin'? Or both, like red here?
((ooc: Alec's chair created and stolen from with permission!))
She moved back to where she had been standing earlier, and leaned against the arm of the couch, next to the red head man...Addison. She looked down at the three now on the couch, since Alec had joined them, and felt a little jealous, but then pulled out a chair at the table where she was standing, and turned it around to face the group.
"I just came by for some light diversions...catching up on all the reading I haven't had time for."
And that was the truth. The whys and wherefores she would omit, naturally.
Trying not to act at all surprised when Alec pulled out her pocket knife, she smirked at him and took it in her teeth, trying to work an arm free.
Managing that with marginal success, she took the knife back and answered the question at hand with a gasp, "I just... came by... for some light reading." She gestured to the big stack of books and then let her hand hover over Alec's ribcage suggestively.
"So, are we ticklish? Or would we rather have the knife in the ribs?"
Hey! I already got the knife in the ribs, so no fair with the pointy things. And that doesn't look like light reading, it looks like good foundation material. You must be tougher than you look lugging those bricks around.
Gesturing to his discarded magazines, he said
That's light reading. People who wrote it clearly don't know what they're talking about. I predict a rash of poorly designed windows in the amateur builder market. So how's Google turning out, Addison? As you predicted?
[quote"...So how's Google turning out, Addison? As you predicted?"[/quote]
"Eep! I mean...better than expected. They are quickly taking over the technology market in search software and now e-mail, chat, and music....there's the possibility of a google operating system even..." Yes, keep talking...maybe the vampire would not notice right away that he'd tied his shoes together...
(OOC: Permission to tie shoes together granted)
His talking about getting "a knife in the ribs" snapped her back to reality. She didn't know why she kept looking at him... but she hid the smirk she felt tugging at her lips when she saw Addison tying his sneakers together.
She wished her chair was large enough to accomodate Fallon.
Listening to the others as they conversed, she simply listened. As the newcomer to the group, she didn't want to interfere more than she already had, and besides, she didn't really have a purpose for being in the library tonight.
Or had she had?
From across the room, the librarian was staring daggers at them, but the library population had thinned out considerably and they didn't seem to have anyone in close proximity to disturb. Aishe simply smiled at the woman.
"Those books are classics," she informed Alec archly. "We never had access to books like those at college. I'm amazed they'll let me take them out at all. Obviously they aren't the originals, but they're close enough. Hardly bricks!"
Aishe winked in Fallon and Ana's direction. Perhaps when Addison finished his shoe-tying, she'd let her fingers come in for a landing. It'd be interesting to wipe that smug expression off of Alec's face.
She did her best not to look entirely wicked.
Fallon gave Addison a conspiratorial wink when she saw him tie Alec's laces together, and kept looking back that way just in case Alec chose that time to stand up.
Waving away pointy fingers, Alec smirked at Ana.
This is the real reason you didn't want to sit here, wasn't it? You knew that this seat was even more dangerous than that one!
Ana giggled then laughed. Pointing at Aishe's books, she quipped, "Though, that stack of books falling over is a real danger. I think there should be a hazardous area sign on those."
"Though, that stack of books falling over is a real danger. I think there should be a hazardous area sign on those."
A quick glance showed that the stack was indeed high and looked to be...in ill use. "You look to be busy later..."
Chuckling, Alec cut in.
You'll notice that she said that they didn't have books like those where she went to school - that's because these books have words in them. Aishe is going and getting all learned on us. Lookout! Next she'll show us that she can button her coat and tie her own shoes!
Preparing for the possibility of incoming tickles from the scowling creature near him, Alec raised his hands in defense, waving her hands away when she got too close.
That said, she sure hoped Addison had done a number on Alec's shoelaces, because she was going in for the kill. Deftly avoiding Alec's warding hands, she zipped in and let her first two fingers dance over his ribcage lightly, traveling down to the sensitive skin just below and giving a small poke there as well.
Fortunately, Fallon had the librarian well-distracted.
Sadly, he didn't have the momentum necessary to finish the maneuver, nor the length of string. Rotating his body quickly again, it looked like he'd be falling. Onto something treacherous. Onto someone who, luckily, looked like her knees wouldn't hurt too bad if he missed the maneuver.
Ohdamnanalookout...
Lining up his hands so they wouldn't hit any of her feminine bits or her face, he aimed for the arms of the chair. One hand made purchase, the other slipped along the edge of her thigh and into the cushion, dumping his face unceremoniously onto her lap.
Pulling his arm out from alongside her, he looked up at her. Blushing hotly, he mumbled
Sorry for the intrusion.
before flipping himself around, onto his butt between her feet, shaking his head. It started low, quiet....and then the stifled snickers started. He really hoped that he could hold it back, but...nope. He started laughing. Hard. The kind that makes eyes leak.
Wiping the corner of his eye, he said
Well, maybe Aishe can show me how to tie *my* shoes properly, since apparently I missed that day in class.
Pointing his feet out to where he'd been lounging, he asked
Can someone repair me? I'm sure I'll be needing my feet at some point soon.
First Aishe was tickling Alec, then he was standing and flailing. Then an arm barely missed her nose, and Alec's face was in her lap...
Then it wasn't.
Flame blossomed in her face as Alec started laughing, and she felt the giggles bubbling inside. She started laughing, too, and when he requested, "Can someone repair me?" she leaned over in her seat, brown hair falling to one side.
Between fits of giggles and squeaky snorts, she said, "Maybe next time *giggle* you'll keep your feet *squeak* away from someone you'd been poking fun at."
Continuing to laugh, she slid off her chair next to him, then forward, suddenly glad that she'd worn slacks on her errands today. Reaching down, she untied his shoes. Or tried to - the knots had been pulled tight by his fall. Reaching into her hair, she pulled one of the pair of metal sticks from her bun, and picked at the knot. Grinning up at the red-haired man, she said, "Nice knot, Addison."
Turning back to Alec's shoes, she focused, brows furrowed and eyes squinty, on the knotted mess, picking at the convoluted loops.
She obligingly slithered to the floor and got to work on the shoelaces as requested, kneeling next to Ana, peering up to make sure the elderly librarian was still occupied. On the polished wood floor at Alec's feet she diligently took one shoe from Ana and undid the knots on it ("Good job on these, Addison.") then re-tied it again, making exaggerated motions.
"Loop, swoop, and pull," she advised with a wink as she tied her particular shoe. Standing, she offered Alec her hand. "Nice moves there. I can see where you got your incredible dancing skills from."
"Nice knot, Addison."
"Oooh...busted..." The Tach accountant flashed Alec an apologetic smile. "Um...the devil made me do it?"
"You alright down there?"
