Hagen Dazs Makes Everything Better... (attn: Ana)

((ooc: Follows Devouring Knowledge ))

Aishe walked the two blocks with Ana, smiling at her when she expressed concern over her expression in the movie store. She shook her head, her frown banished completely, dismissing the idea with a wave of her hand.

"Oh, there's nothing wrong," she said as they headed back to Ana's apartment. "I was thinking about what I'd set out to do here in Nachton, and realizing I've been here for a while and not done it yet. I should just stop procrastinating and apply to Meridian; get it done with."

She swung the bag with the movies and snacks in it loosely by her side. "I've much such wonderful people though; I suppose it makes the time fly by that much faster."

She wasn't surprised at how easily the lie came out. She certainly couldn't really explain her true purpose in Nachton to Ana, and even if she was comfortable broaching the topic, she wasn't going to indoctrinate the girl into a world full of vampires just like that. Telling her about them could endanger her clanmates, and Aishe hardly wanted that. It could endanger Ana too; what if she actually believed Aishe and got herself in trouble?

No, best she remained unenlightened for the time being.

Then it hit her like a ton of bricks. She was doing to Ana just what Kem was trying to do for her. In a way.

But this was different, the little voice inside protested. Ana had no previous knowledge, or so Aishe suspected. Aishe did. And she had, long before Kem had even realized it.

They reached Ana's apartment door and Aishe grinned at the strange color blocks of it. "Has personality," she said with a nod. She preceded Ana into an old, but charming, little studio apartment.

"Oh, how cute," Aishe exclaimed. She set her purse down on one of the chairs at the slightly cluttered table and took her windbreaker off, then held up their bag. "Freezer? Won't do any good if our ice cream melts!"

"Alright, well, at least let me drive you home then," Ana offered. She popped the Goonies DVD onto the tray and slid it into the laptop. "Though, I reserve the right to buy the ice cream!" As it spun up, she disappeared into the kitchen. She considered the idea of having a sleepover with Fallon and Aishe as she filled one of her large 24-oz plastic blue cups with ice. As the water from the tap filled the glass, a thought occurred to her: Fallon really needs to spend some time having fun. Shaking her head to dislodge that thought (which wasn't very effective) she hit the enter key on her way past the computer and joined Aishe on the couch.

Ana squirmed a bit to get comfortable.
"Would it be rude of me to say that I think Fallon needs a break? I don't know where it came from, but as I was in the kitchen, I was thinking, 'that woman needs to spend some time having fun.' Weird, huh?"

"You shmuck. You really think I'd be stupid enough to kill myself?"

Aishe thought back to her first long talk with Fallon and nodded at
Ana. "I agree. She needs to have some fun, and so do you. I'm your
new therapist!"

She shifted on the couch and stretched her legs out along it,
planting her heels on Ana's leg. "I think the counselee is supposed
to have their feet up, not the counselor... but we'll make an exception
tonight!"

She grinned cheekily at Ana and turned to watch Goonies, which she'd
only ever seen once.

"Oh, and you're more than welcome to supply the ice cream, particularly
if I'm supplying the apartment."

Ana smirked at Aishe when the other woman's feet bounced off her thigh. "Well at least the Doctor is comfortable."

As they watched the movie, a sudden idea occurred to Ana. She pulled Aishe's right foot more into her lap, and slowly, gently, kneaded the appendage, massaging it carefully, if inexpertly. She switched feet when Brand whined, "Why couldn't I have a sister, just a little sister."

Aishe reflected that it was fortunate she wasn't ticklish. She didn't
pull away though. She didn't want to hurt Ana's feelings at all, not
when the woman was finally relaxing and looking like she was enjoying
herself. After all she'd been through, Aishe was fairly certain she
ought to be the one offering the comforting massage, but there was only
so much mutual admiration she could participate in in one night.

She briefly wondered when she'd become a psychiatrist, between Fallon
and Ana... they helped her remember that there were far worse problems
in this world than hers. Maybe that wasn't saying much for Fallon and
Ana, but Aishe thought it was a reflection on both that they could go
through their own trials and come out seemingly for the better.

She stayed quiet, but after a while she tugged her feet away and
tucked them under Ana's leg snugly, sort of the equivalent of a foot-y
hand-hold. She smiled a bit, the expression for Ana even though she was
watching the movie.

It had been so long since Ana had done anything but sit in front of a movie and do nothing with her hands. Typically, she was either typing away chatting, or in a group in WoW... Wow, she hadn't logged on her account in so long... Let alone told anyone in her guild what had happened to Olivia... "Eh," she thought, "Not too big a deal. They probably aren't too worried or I'd have gotten a call from someone, or an email."

So she had picked up Aishe's feet to massage them. Being good at foot massages had been a highly sought-after skill when she'd been a regular camper, not to mention were very helpful for when she ended long stints at the library.

Of course, there was the whole "massaging yourself doesn't do much except move muscles around, because you're expending energy to relax" point of view an old coworker had shared. Ana didn't quite understand it all the time, but it did make sense, especially when she couldn't quite turn her foot just right to get a good angle on it.

She patted Aishe's calf and snuggled into her corner of the couch.

They watched in companionable silence for the rest of the movie. As
Aishe stood afterwards, she reflected on the evening and, like she'd
thought before, the fact that sometimes it took a good dose of others'
realities to ram home the fact that your life wasn't all that bad.

She gathered up her things, accepting a ride home from Ana, and gave
her a brief hug before they walked out Ana's door. "I'm really glad
we met. Next time, we crash my place... and we'll bring Fallon along."

Ana nodded agreeably, almost shaking her glasses off her face. Making an "mmm" sound as Aishe hugged her, she commented, "I'm glad I played hookie! Thanks for spending your evening with me." The exchanged numbers and addresses, and Aishe gave her directions to her building. The stone, steel, and glass monstrosity also had a stately elegance to it. Ana whistled low. "Nice place," she said, not expecting or needing a thanks.

Aishe got out of the car and gave her parting words; Ana responded in kind.
"Good night, and thanks again! Call me! Or I'll see you at the library."

It was good, Ana reflected, having dropped Aishe off at her place, to have had a friend over who made no demands of her. "Or didn't make me feel uncomfortable or do anything strange..." she spoke aloud to herself as she pulled away from Aishe's building.

She toggled her power window switches and rolled her windows down, simultaneously cranking up her radio. The new Kelly Clarkson song was just jam-worthy. Bashing her steering wheel in a poor mimicry of a drummer, she sung at the top of her lungs on her way home.
