Welcome! (description)
Welcome to the C. John Apollo Park and Nature Preserve (recently rededicated). This beautiful swath of parkland sits just north of the Waterfront, in the City of Nachton but right on the border. This is where the Nachton Bandits play on the baseball diamond set back in one field, and the Nachton Nomads with their football field across from that. The park and preserve constitutes a mix of the terrain found in and around Nachton, bringing it all together for anyone to enjoy.
Eastmost is, of course, the ocean. There's a section of beach roped off for swimming with a few lifeguard towers. As you travel west and uphill from the beach you will find several fields including those for the football and baseball teams, and a few soccer fields as well. This area also has concession stands that are open during the sports seasons and all summer, as well as restrooms that are always available. At the very west end of the parkland the lovely green fields give way to woodland and a large amount of this has been incorporated into the park itself. There are nature trails to hike/bicycle/ride on, a small lake at the northern end, and several cabins available to rent for a long secluded weekend.
In addition to the local sports teams playing here, many youth organizations come here to make use of the grounds. The city's schools will often arrange field trips here. There are several buildings for administration and park maintenance located at the front of the property, a naturalist's building where a team of preservationists work to keep safe the wildlife, and a horticulture building where they're currently growing cornflowers and asparagus: both said to be favorites of the late beloved mayor. Several archaeological digs are going on as well, but the sites are roped off to keep the curious onlooker from falling into pits and tripping on trowels.
The park and preserve are open to everyone and in true Nachton tradition, they do not close the gates when the sun sets.
