Tomorrow's a New Day
Wren scrubbed at tired eyes that seemed filled with sand. She felt raw and used. Her body felt battered and it took every ounce of her strength to stand from her plane chair. They disembarked to the flight attendant wishing them a good night and hoping they'd had a pleasant flight. Wren gave the woman a smile she knew didn't reach her eyes.
Drev carried their bags as she could do little more than clutch her arms around her stomach. She knew she should be feeling relief at the knowledge of her tormentor behind bars, but mostly she felt like shit.
She just didn't understand what she'd done to deserve such things. Was she a whore mongering pirate in another life and this was karma's way of sticking it to her? Or did she just reek of victim pheromones? She needed to find herself a psychologist or she'd loose her mind and she'd worked so hard to rebuild it she had no intention of letting it go.
Drev draped an arm around her shoulders as he slung the two duffles over one shoulder. She leaned into him and let him guide her to the waiting limo waiting outside the terminal. It was an awkward way to walk, but she just didn't have the wherewithal to care.
As he stood brushing his teeth, he looked in the mirror at the youthful man looking back at him. Rather, his face was still youthful; his eyes, if one looked deep enough, held centuries of wisdom and experience. And pain. Not for the first time, and probably not for the last, Drev found himself hating his immortality. He lost so many friends - everyone he cared for, really - and had seen so much war and strife in the world. But the saddest thing about it was that it would never end. As long as human beings lived, there would be hatred. And where there was hatred, violence was never far behind. It had been going on for all his 700 plus years of life, and would continue, regardless of whether the latest flavor of terrorist was killed or not. If there was one thing he learned about terrorism during his long life, it was that there would always be someone to pick up where the last led off.
But there had also been a lot of joy and pleasure, he had to remind himself. He'd met so many interesting people in his life, and done so many fulfilling things. Unfortunately, the good things rarely lasted. His thoughts naturally turned to Wren, the best thing in his life at the moment. There would come a time when he'd have to sever his relationship with her. There would come a time when she would begin to see wrinkles at the corners of her eyes and mouth. When she would have to start dying the silver hairs at her temples. And yet he would still look as youthful as the day they met. It had happened countless times
to him already, and it never got any easier. Of course, there was always the alternative....
The only thing he could do was make the best of the time he was given, he could enjoy every moment he did have with her.
"Come eat, Drev." The sound of her voice shattered his reverie, and he realized he'd been standing in front of the mirror with a mouth full of toothpaste for what... five minutes? He spit it out, rinsed, and dried his mouth. He took one more look at the man in the mirror before going to fetch a pair of his wide-legged black workout pants and heading into the kitchen. The instant he saw Wren, his mind cleared of cloudy thoughts. As the smile spread over his face again, he moved silently behind the slender girl and wrapped her up in his arms. His lips found the base of her neck, his hands slipped inside her robe to cup her warm, smooth breasts, and his manhood flexed hungrily against her firm backside.
"I wasn't expecting you to make me breakfast," he said as he trailed kisses up her neck to her ear, tracing the outer edge with his tongue and gently pinched her nipples.
"You thought I'd just make something for myself and you'd be forced to eat those awful cardboard circles you call waffles?"
She leaned her head back and to the side and kissed his cheek "It's getting cold." Pushing gently away, she took her place and sat with her left foot pulled up into the chair. She'd brought the paper in with her when she'd gotten home from her run and it was spread on the table with them. Front page, sports, and business for Drev, and travel, ads and the funnies for her. The classifieds were usually pushed aside but today Wren had them open to the car ads, she might as well get a head start.
"What kind of car should I get? Nothing flashy, but it can't be too cheap or I'll be embarrassed to park it next to yours and I'll be forced to park it next to Ms. Carmichael's Le Sabre."
She grinned at him and put a fork full of eggs and vegetables in her mouth.
"I'd suggest a Toyota Camry or Honda Accord. Or if you want something a little smaller, a Corolla or a Civic. They're all good cars - good gas mileage, reliable, and stylish enough to not be an embarassment." He winked at her and continued eating his breakfast. "That's what I would look for if I were on a budget."
Wren turned a page of the paper and wrinkled her nose at Drev's suggestions. "I've been doing some mental calculations, and I think I can afford something a little more than a family sedan. I was thinking something small and shiny and a convertible, but I don't really know much about sports cars. I should be looking on the internet instead of this paper huh?"
She glanced back down at the paper and one of the adds caught her eye.
"Ooooh, that's pretty. It's a Chevy Corvette. I think I'd look hot in a silver 'Vette convertible, don't you?"
He was a little surprised at his practical thinking. He personally didn't usually think much on details like that regarding a vehicle, but then he had a lot more money to throw around. He just didn't want Wren to dive headfirst into this and end up with a broken neck. But of course, she wouldn't. If she got in over her head, Drev would be right there to bail her out.
"Besides," he added in a lighter tone, "you don't have any physical attributes to compensate for."
"Besides, you don't have any physical attributes to compensate for."
she picked up her coffee and took a sip and nearly choked on it. Coughing softly she wiped her mouth with her napkin and put it back on the table.
"No I already compensated for that." She waggled her eyebrows at him and glanced back down at the paper.
"Oh, here's a Honda Civic SI for thirty-six five, fully loaded. That's a spiffy looking car. Tons of safety features. We should go test drive one tonight before we go to Enzo's. What do you think?"
"On a completely unrelated note... you have a birthday coming up in a couple months, don't you?" The mischievous smile he flashed her suggested that it might not be so unrelated, afterall....
"Completely unrelated huh? You're not buying a car for my birthday."
She put her coffee cup down and put jelly on her english muffin.
"Besides I'd rather you buy me diamonds."
Her lips turned up in an impish grin as she moved the muffin to her mouth and took a bite.
"And now that breakfast is done, we have a 'few things' to take care of, right?"
"I don't know that I'm in the mood. You don't want to buy me pretty baubles." She gave a sniff and stuck her lip out a little, before sipping from her cup.
"Diamonds can be functional." She sniffed again and had to hid behind her cup and bite her lip to keep from laughing.
He furrowed his brow and chewed on his lip as though turning thoughts over in his mind, all the while his eyes sparkled mischievously. "And besides, if I did buy you a more traditional diamond, wouldn't that mean I'd have to call you my 'girlfriend'?"
Was he serious? Drev seemed to pick the oddest times to make her stomach to flip-flops and send her mind reeling. She'd never really contemplated being anyone's girlfriend since Marcus, 'Bastard,' but the thought wasn't abhorrent. In fact it was quite appealing, she would, however, play it cool and not seem like the puppy-love sick girl she felt like.
"Girlfriend is such a strong word. Can't I just be a kept woman?" She tilted her head to one side and chewed on her bottom lip pretending to think. "Hmm, no, because then I'd have to let you buy me that car and pay for all the things that went with it, and buy my clothes and feed me chocolates while you fan me with palm fronds. I don't think I can take that kind of pressure." She gave and airy wave with her free hand and sighed as though terribly put upon. "Girlfriend it is."
She sat up, put her cup down and leaned toward Drev and cocked an eyebrow. "Now I get diamonds and you get reward sex, and I still get to buy my own car. I'll be expecting a little velvet box tomorrow."
Her face remained expecting and determined, while she swallowed hard to keep from laughing. She had never been any good at this sort of thing and never would be, but it was fun to try.
'What the fuck just happened?! Is she serious?' When his mind stopped spinning, he was able to close his mouth and wipe the dumbfounded look off his face. He found it interesting that he didn't seem to have a problem with Wren being his girlfriend; he just hoped she didn't really expect a velvet box by tomorrow....
"Alright, but you're going to have to give me another day before you expect a velvet box; we're going dancing tonight, remember? And you're going to have to protect yourself from all the groupies you just pissed off."
'What the hell did I just say?!"
"That's alright, I needed new pepper spray anyway and my license to carry concealed should be here soon, so that takes care of that." She sighed, sounding a bit put out. "I guess I can wait a day, you are taking me dancing after all. Just remember I don't like anything ostentatious."
'Ok I'm going to have to stop this soon, before he takes me seriously. Damn, tell me again what it is I started here.'
"Honestly? I don't know. I like what we have now and would hate for that to change, but on the other hand, I would like to see where we might go if we...changed things. I've had so much change in my life that I've come to depend on the stability I find here. I don't know if that's good or bad. I don't know if it should stay or change.
"I do know that this works, and I don't know if being more committed to you will work and I'm too raw to have one more thing not work in my life. " She sighed and shrugged her shoulders. "I think this is the point where we laugh this conversation off and go have hot monkey sex."
She pushed the chair away with her foot, then with a small bending of knees and her hands braced on his shoulders she gave a small jump and wrapped her legs around Drev's waist. She pressed her lips back to his, before working down along his jaw to his ear.
"Yeah, I kinda like this." She whispered and then turned her kisses down his neck.
for deciding to put on pants.
When she was settled, she began to place small kisses along his jaw, and lifted her hips enough so that she could slide the head of his member into the center of her heat. With a small moan she pushed down and took him inside of her.
