Friends...a good thing
It was an extraordinary night. The air was cool for summer, at least any summer's Fallon could remember, and yet it was obvious summer was still in full bloom, along with all the flowers native to Nachton. The air was still a bit humid and heady with all kinds of wonderful scents.
Since she'd come to realize her cat abilities were giving her added perks, Fallon had just accepted it and started enjoying them. It was that much more incredible when she and Cyrus would run in the forrest, and it also seemed to allow her change to happen more smoothly. That, or all the practice was paying off, as she never seemed to have any anxiety about it anymore.
She had also refrained from too much contact with Suki over the past week, thinking it would be easier on the three of them this way. Trying not to give the girl orders or instructions was more difficult than Fallon had thought it would be, only because Suki was just so helpful all the time. So distance was the only way she could see clear to try and break the cycle. Cyrus was Suki's master, and only master. For Fallon she could be a friend, and that was all.
In the grand scheme of things Fallon preferred it like that anyway. She had no desire to have the responsibility of anyone else. Outside of the responsiblity she felt for Cyrus, which was only a responsibility in so far as one lover would have for another. Being responsible for a familiar was too much like having a child. Not anything Fallon had the need for.
But Fallon did need to get together with Suki to start planning the party they'd be having when the new house was finished. Ever since Fallon had invited her few friends over to her little cottage for the get together, she'd wanted to have another celebration. She loved playing hostess, and visiting with her friends, and since Cyrus didn't seem to mind, the new house was just the excuse she could use.
And speaking of friends, and new houses, she was just as excited to be seeing Ana again, and thrilled she and Suki and Fallon could spend the evening together. Since Cyrus had to meet with his buyers, it worked out well for everyone.
Since Ana had only moved into the cottage a couple days earlier, Fallon wanted to make sure everything was still working well, and hoped to hear her friend was settled and enjoying her new home.
Finding it more difficult to be cooped up inside these days, Fallon chose the restaurant at the marina to meet at. She loved the smell of the ocean, and the seating at the outside patio was perfect. Once she parked the RAV and walked up to the hostess, she found she was the first to arrive. Leaving her name with the friendly woman, Fallon went to her table, and watched a few small boats sailing back and forth across the calm water, as she waited for the others to arrive.
"Thank you Ana. We can plan someplace fun with no sandwiches, soup or boring salads. The later is what I inevitably eat while racing through my day."
The concept of a phantom table of perfect mates mirroring their evening had her giggling with Ana. Somehow she seriously doubted that even if such a thing were happening right this moment, they would never meet them anyways. Still the thought was amusing.
The plate in front of her looked so amazing, she was almost sorry to stick her fork into it. The rich dark chocolate cheesecake had a black cookie crumb crust that was slightly crumbled about in places. The swirled sauce was rich red and smelled sweet and tart, that distinctive strawberry flavor in liquid decoration form. Three plump red berries sat artfully arranged atop the cheesecake, half coated in a hardened shell of chocolate. Gently grasping one by the pretty green stem she placed it on the saucer in front of Fallon before doing the same to the next one for Ana.
Putting her berry to the side she took one forkful of chocolate into her mouth. The sauce stained her lower lip but she waited until her mouth was empty to lick the drop of red off. This dessert was decadent; rich and creamy with the sharp berry flavor and mellow cookie crunch. Perfect way to top off her meal.
"mmmmmm" Suki almost moaned at the second bite with more of the sauce upon it. "This is so good. Anyone want a bite?"
She waved off Ana's reassurances behind her reasons for laughing, and nodded at the images her idea had conjured up. Though, instead of male companions, Fallon had a fleeting image of something developing between Ana and Suki. At least with all the negativity she'd experienced in life, Fallon had never developed any prejudices towards people. So sexual preferences had never been anything to cause her concern, any more than the cultural differences between her and Cyrus. But the idea of Ana and Suki was much too presumptuous to continue with in reality.
Pushing her half eaten bowl of sorbet to the side, Fallon thanked Suki for the strawberry and ate it with relish. The enjoyment of the strawberry was due in part to it's sweetness, but also because it was a gift from Suki. She declined a bite of the cake though, amidst her soft moan of delight over the strawberry. She giggled then too, noticing moans of delight coming from everyone at the table. Leaning in closer to the other two women, Fallon whispered...
"You'd think from the noises coming from this table that a lot more than eating dessert was going on here."
When Fallon whispered about the noises they were all making, Ana snickered and dropped what little remained of her berry directly on top of her tiramisu. Giggling, she whispered back, "Let them think what they want. If they enjoy it while we enjoy what we're enjoying, then who is to complain?"
Taking up her fork, Ana carefully rolled the remains of her berry off the rather large square of tiramisu and, as she was about to press the tines of her fork through it to make a morsel, realized she didn't have any coffee. She looked up and, just as she was about to ask 'Where's my coffee, anyway?' their waiter returned with her cup. "Here you are ma'am, fresh from a freshly brewed pot."
Ana smiled and reached to take the cup. "Thank you SO much!" she exclaimed, and set it down. When the waiter wandered off again, she picked up her first forkful of tiramisu. It had been presented rather neatly; not haphazardly as she was accustomed to at other restaurants. The powdered coffee grounds were fine and the layer was thin, and there even seemed to be a bit highlighting the edge of the wide plate. As she opened her mouth, she moved the fork inside and pulled the piece of cake from the utensil. Creamy coffee goodness melted on her tongue. Breathing in gently as she chewed, Ana relished the tingly sensation of the raw coffee on her tongue and teeth, buffetted by the creamy cake. She swallowed and let her breath out, sighing. "Now that is -good- tiramisu. Ladies? Forkful?"
Returning to her dessert the young woman continued to cut off pieces and savor each bite. Her whole attention focused on the flavor, texture and smell of the lush treat. When Ana offered a bite of hers Suki could only look between the two plates repeatedly.
"Thank you so much for the offer Ana. While normally I would jump at the chance, I am fearing I may not be able to finish my own slice now, if I had a bite of yours too, I may just explode."
The familiar was also very aware of what she had eaten for dinner. The crab and lobster were both major allergens for Ana and while she had a new fork, she simply did not want to risk putting even a molecule on Ana's cake. Taking her time on the last half of the cheesecake, Suki sipped her wine and contemplated the evening.
"So ladies, up for anything fun after we finish this lovely repast? I know one or two fun places to go dancing at."
"You two are awful temptresses, but I really can't eat another bite. Of course now that I never have to watch my weight again, you'd think I'd go crazy trying everything in sight, but the stomach still fills up pretty quickly."
Truth was Fallon was very pleasant feeling at the moment, and another bite would push her just into that uncomfortable zone. She winked at Suki when her friend mirrored her thoughts.
The suggestion about going dancing sounded fun, but Fallon wondered if she would really enjoy herself without Cyrus. She hated to call it a night so early, but she didn't want to be a wet blanket for the other two either.
"I don't know...why don't you two just go ahead and go...enjoy yourselves...I don't think I'd be much fun, as I'd just wonder about Cyrus."
She doubted Cyrus would care if she went, or even if she danced a couple dances. He knew she loved him and would consider no one above him, even for a second. But she still thought she'd feel strange.

Her New Yawk accent was rather noticable when she said that last word. Methodically shaving down the treat before her in fork-wide, fork-thick sections, she slowly devoured her tiramisu.
When Suki mentioned dancing, she felt a wellspring of trepidation in her belly. "As much fun as that sounds, I have no dancing expertise whatsoever. Well," she said confidentially, "unless you count dancing when cleaning to good music," she shrugged, her ears and cheeks aflame with light embarassment. "I wouldn't, though."
When Fallon mentioned wondering about Cyrus, Ana felt a little bit of anger pop up in the forefront of her mind. Setting her fork down, she reached out to take gentle hold of her friend's hand. "Oh, Fallon, you spend very much time with him. I don't begrudge him that, really, but please, take some time for yourself. We both like spending time with you. You need to get out. Girls night out! That's what tonight is for, right? Just... remember that you still have your own self to take care of. Not just Cyrus."
"But you just said you didn't dance...so, if you don't dance, what are we going to do...just go and sit and watch Suki dance?"
And funnily enough, once she'd said the words, Fallon thought that actually sounded like a lot of fun.
"So okay...let's say we do go dancing...where would you be taking us Suki? I'm not really fond of The House of Pain..."
Knowing Suki used to work there, Fallon almost didn't say anything at all, but she was under the impression that Suki had severed ties there, so she shouldn't mind that Fallon got the creeps from the place.
"Oh! I know...maybe we could find a gay bar, and then we could all just dance with each other?"
The idea sounded marvelous in Fallon's head, but as she heard the words come out of her mouth she cringed.
"I'm sorry, that was very selfish of me. You two need to find a place where there are tons of eligible, nice, young men."
Again Fallon's statement was colored by her assumption that both of her friends were straight. Not that it would matter either way, Fallon truly didn't care. But her conditioning led her to say what she had, and she wouldn't notice anything amiss in her words.
"Ana, I am sure that once they get past the 'honeymoon' stage they will be more social. Goodness knows I yearn for someone special in my life and am completely sure that Cyrus feels quite happy to put that feeling he has had his entire lifetime aside. Should he monopolize Fallon for a while, I am sure it is mutual and in no way, shape or form damaging to her."
Stuffing her mouth with the last large bite of chocolate on her plate she tried to stay silent after that defense. She knew that no matter what Ana thought she knew, it was nothing compared to the reality the trio lived.
The swift change of subject towards where to go as Fallon attempted to placate them had Suki thinking of where to go. Her head shooke a vehement no at the thought of the House. "I dont think going to the HoP is a good idea without greater protection. Nor do I think it would be Ana's cup of tea."
Somehow she simply did not see the librarian dancing to the loud pounding music or swaying to the gothic violin music that was supposed to be slowdance songs but inevitably sung of death or despair.
A snort escaped her at the idea of a gay bar. Unfortunately the only one she knew was slanted towards men, not women. She doubted that it would be a the kind of place they would be welcomed. Sipping her wine and blotting her lips dry she considered the places she knew.
"We could head to Club Eternity, its rather swank but I have a friend who works there. Or we could head to The Spot. That place kind of caters more towards the college crowd, young, trendy, loud techno."
Slippig her credit card from her bag she placed it on the bill the waiter brought before it was even placed on the table. Smiling serenely she thought of another place. "We could try Round Up which is a country bar with a large dance floor. Or Shades for Jazz and Blues, though I cant recall if it has dancing but it does have live music most nights."
"As far as where we go next, I am yours to escort around. I only know my way from the University to the Library to Fallon's cot... I mean my cottage, and that's about it. I've never been one for clubs, but I hear they're fun, and if you girls don't mind seeing my vacuuming dance or my dusting wiggle, then by all means, let us be off."
She turned a winking grin to both of her companions. "As long as I get a dance with both of you, either together or one at a time, it doesn't matter."
She grinned at the 'honeymoon' comment, for that did seem to describe her life quite well at this particular time.
"So far it has lasted more than a couple weeks, and I'm very happy about that. I'm not sure there are any set guidelines for it though, and myself didn't really realize there was such a term for how things are now between he and I. It's a incredibly accurate label though Suki." Fallon grinned and nodded at her friend.
"But Ana, I don't want you to feel like you need to apologize for saying what you feel. I know you only did so out of concern, and I cherish that you care about me. I care about you just as strongly, and might say something similar one day. I going to trust that you'll understand the reasoning behind my word then, just as I understand your's now. And you're not silly, or un...unedu...unedumacated...?" Fallon laughed at the funny word, but let her disagreement come through in her words. Fallon adored Ana and thought she was quite bright. She didn't like hearing her friend talk down about herself. Turning in her chair she also put her leg out a little so the other two could see the sandaled foot. "And see...no smooshed toes."
Turning back to the current issue of where to go to next, Fallon agreed with Ana, and nudged Suki.
"Yep, I think it's going to be on your shoulders, once again Suki dear, for choosing where we go. I can't ask you to though, you know. That request will need to come from Ana, or be your own decision." Fallon, still awkward at the whole 'not asking Suki to do things', hoped her friend understood her slightly cryptic statement, and took it for how it was intended...without any issue at all.
"I think a place where we could all dance together would be a lot of fun." That way Fallon could dance, and not feel like she was being disloyal to Cyrus too.
Thankfully Fallon also soothed Ana's hurt feelings with grace and humor. Suki was pleased that her term worked for the vampire. She had almost used the term newlywed but did not think they were quiet to that stage yet.
At the thought of dancing, she contemplated their choices. Meanwhile their waiter brought the bill and her card back and after tipping him generously and putting away the credit card Cyrus had given her she knew where they should go.
"Since we all look so fabulous, and I am dying to see the dusting wiggle, lets head to Club Eternity. And if you ladies dont mind leaving your cars here, safe in the parking lot, the driver can get us there easily. I dont know if the club has a lot of parking or not."
Flipping through her small PDA's address book pages she found the notation for her contact at Club E. James was a security guard, generally worked as bouncer and studied at the same studio she went to. He had told her that anytime she wished to visit him, he would hook her up with admittance. Putting the small handheld electronic device back into her purse she made sure her area was neat before standing.
"I'm just going to run to the ladies room quick. Shall I meet you both by the door?"
Folding her napkin and placing it to the side of her place on the table, Fallon nodded in agreement at wanting to see Ana's dance. The evening was still young enough to prolong, and she couldn't think of two other women she'd rather spend it with...though she did again reflect on missing Aishe.
"Club Eternity it is then, and I think all of us taking the car is a great idea. Is Ginger driving? Not having to worry with parking is worth it to me."
Fallon looked to Ana and hoped she'd agree as well.
"Sure, we'll wait for you just outside?" That way they wouldn't be in the doorway, and Fallon could get a breath of fresh air.
Standing up, Fallon ran her hands down her hips, making sure her dress wasn't stuck someplace it shouldn't be, and walked around the table to where Ana stood. Taking the girl's arm, Fallon waited for Suki to lead the way, since the three were all headed in the same direction.
Ana watched the now-standing Fallon make a strange motion with her hands, sliding them down her hips. She saw a bunched bit of fabric behind Fallon's legs unbunch... and realized that, as she too had been sitting for a while, perhaps that motion was a good idea. Mirroring her friend, she felt a sudden relief at her backside; perhaps she'd gotten fabric stuck somewhere? Taking her purse in hand, and Fallon's arm in her other, she quipped, "Three lovely ladies in a limo! Let's liven up our lives a little! We could dance to delicious disco, or jive to jumpin' jazz! Oh, I know," she said, still keeping a straight face, "We could entwine our extremities as we espouse and evoke our endless energy to eclectic electronic entertainment!" Unable to keep a straight face any longer, Ana snorted loudly as her laughter bubbled from deep within. Giggling peals echoed in the entrance hall as she held the door open for Fallon and herself to exit.
"You have such a clever mind Ana...are you sure you should be working in a library, and not writing for one? Any one with your talent for words should really try writing a book. Not that you couldn't write anything you might wish to, but I think of children's books when I hear you say things like that."
Standing with her back to the door and facing Ana, Fallon considered her friend, and realized that Ana really was quite a smart cookie. Not that she'd ever thought otherwise, but she knew she'd taken parts of Ana for granted, and now made a mental note to stop thinking of her as such a 'young' woman. Whatever Ana had been through in her life, it had made her a little older than her years.
She also contemplated asking her more about her name...Montana...but decided not to for fear the explanation would be too long to go over before Suki returned, and she didn't want to bring up any other subjects that might create more issues for the young women.
Breaking off of their path to the door as the restroom came into sight the familiar pulled her phone out of her purse as she entered. Swiftly she arranged for Ginger to be there quickly and to take them to the club. Luckily the driver had just delivered Cyrus to the House of Pain and was awaiting his call for a pick up. That meant the trio should have a car in five minutes or so. Dropping the phone back into her bag she took care of her bladder and washed her hands. Checking her appearance in the mirror briefly she verified there was nothing in her teeth before venturing out to rejoin the group.
Finding them standing outside, breathing in the night air and the smell of the water closeby. She smiled and tried to fill them in on what she knew of the club. "I'm back, the car should be here in just a moment. While I have never been to Club Eternity, I made a friend at the dojo I go to, who is a bouncer. He told me that it is a very nice place with music, drinks and a very classy type atmosphere. Since we all look so fabulous tonight, I think its the best place to go."
Debating on weather or not to mention to Fallon that Cyrus was at the HoP, Suki just left it at that. Should Ginger mention it, unlikely as the woman did not talk much, that was fine.
She was about to ask her teacher friend what the contemplative look on her face was about when Suki came whirling out of the door. The description of Club Eternity sounded nice - but then, Ana had limited experience with clubs. "If it sounds good to you two, I'm game."
Glancing back and forth between her friends, she smiled widely. "You realize of course we're going to be turning quite a few heads when we get there?"
Sliding an arm through Ana's and an arm through Suki's, Fallon started down the dock towards where she assumed the Ginger would arrive.
"Of course we'll turn heads...who could beat the way we all look tonight?" Fallon had none of the bravado she professed in her statement, but book ended by Ana and Suki gave her more confidence than had she been alone.
"But I'm only promising to dance with you two...any hot looking guys are for you two. I'm so far off the market they can't even find my address anymore." Just in case either wanted her to accept the offer of a dance from some random guy. Fallon would have no trouble turning that down, nor would she feel bad about it.
That is, of course, unless she could get a hold of someone with just a tad too much alcohol in their system to fight a soft bite from her. She would still need to feed tonight as well, and preferred fresh blood over bottled. Somehow she'd make friends with at least one nice young man...or woman...before it was time to leave.
When Ginger did arrive, shortly after the women had walked down to the parking lot, Fallon waited for the other two to enter the limo first. As she did, her eyes swept across the parking lot and a vivid memory sprung up. This was where her life had taken its turn for what was to become just the beginning. She could smile about it now. The way things ultimately turned out...she could smile wide about it now.

The brisk nod was the only response as the young woman climbed back into the drivers seat. Crawling into the car after Ana and taking up position next to the other door, while the librarian sat on the other seat facing sideways, Suki hoped Fallon joined the other woman. It would be easier to protect the vampire if she did not sit next to the door. Security aside Suki smiled at the ladies as she anticipated the evening.
"I am sure there will be no shortage of dance partners tonight. Considering we each have two in this car with us right now, I think it will be fine. As to you being off the map Fallon, I do think you still take deliveries even not being in the market."
Giggling slightly at the tiny vampire joke she hoped her friend found easy food tonight even with their large supply at home. The car bounced a bit over the one speedbump before exiting the parking lot and heading into town.
