Personal Questions

1. Describe your character's personality
Introspective and very private. Has a wide spiritual streak and almost inhuman patience – he rarely acts out in anger but it would be foolish to make the mistake of thinking he is passive. Considers himself down to earth and experienced with many different walks of life. Is occasionally uncomfortable with his own authority and isn’t ambitious for more, though he does hope one day the Vyusher R’asa will accept a Nothos for one of their Alphas. Has an impulsive streak, though he keeps his actions on a fairly short leash these days. Over the years he’s developed considerable self discipline. Has an addictive personality – habits develop quickly and easily for him.

2. Describe how your character would appear to a stranger (I.E. typical dress, way they carry themselves etc.)
Thanos cleans up well in spite of his vast (and well explored) potential to look scruffy, and likes to dress according to his station when he’s not doing something that would get a suit ruined in a hurry. He walks quickly and with good posture, but tends to slump when he smokes and hides behind his hair when he plays guitar.

3.What does your character like?
Smoking. More than just being addicted, Thanos just plain likes being a smoker-it relaxes him. He likes some danger and excitement – not an extreme thrill seeker but likes a little risk. Likes all kinds of music, but especially that good psychedelic shit. A fan of strategy games and flight sims. Likes to read, pretty much exclusively non fiction, lots of religious texts. He secretly gets off on being a high profile Nothos. Scaring/disturbing people.

4. Dislike?
Hates standing by and watching people be stupid. He doesn’t like to be prejudged, but also can’t stand people who want to ‘get to know the real Thanos’; he’d rather if people just didn’t think about him on a personal level at all. Power trippers. Cops and prison guards.

5. (For humans) Describe what abilities you see your character having if they were turned.

6. What are your fears? (please choose and explain 3 minimum)
Punishment for his crimes, either past or present – prison in the human world, but likely worse in Vyusher R’asa. Falling back into his old ways of drug abuse – losing the anchors that keep him clean, like his music. Failure. Most of all, though, Thanos knows he is his own worst enemy. He fears he will somehow shoot himself in the foot by losing his carefully cultivated self control

7. What is your character's strengths and weaknesses? (please pick 3 minimum of each and explain in detail how and why this affects your character)
Self discipline – for all appearances, Thanos leads a very controlled, orderly life. When he commits to something he has a plan for how to follow through and will follow it to the letter.
Adaptability – He knows how to make even really crappy situations work to his best advantage
An organized, detail-oriented mind – Thanos is adept at making sure all the little things involved in larger schemes get carried out.
Heroine addiction – he knows it will haunt him for the rest of his life, but sometimes the desire to use again is both overwhelming and frustrating.
Guilt – Thanos has a strong and active conscience – even if it doesn’t stop him from doing whatever it is he believes he needs to do. Leads to self doubt.
Overcoming a bad reputation – He is still trying to overcome all the terrible things he’s done when he was using, and prove himself to the pack. He doesn’t feel trusted even if his position is respected and is generally discovering that it’s lonely at the top, especially when your people have no real love for you.

Hobbies & Skills (for more information, read here)
Fair musician – best with an acoustic guitar but has the fundamentals for drums, bass, keyboard, enough to know what he’s looking for in a player. Has a gritty and at times nasal voice and all the smoking has left him with a limited window of range, but in spite of these things he can pull off a decent set if he’s so inclined.
Artistic, always liked to draw and has a very good eye, but is fairly out of practice these days.
Can blow smoke rings and has a talent for quarter tricks and poker faces
Efficient in combat, scrappy
Likes to blow shit up on his computer in his spare time – war games, strategy, flight sims are all enjoyable for him.
Keeps up with current events and politics and can occasionally even be drawn into discussions
Speaks his mother’s native language, Greek, and his father’s, Polish, along with English. He has traveled through Europe enough to be able to get his meaning across in a handful of other languages, mostly eastern European. Does passably well at Romani.

Cosmetic Traits(Distinct, character defining physical attributes. These should be minor and offer no real power other than to make your character appear more interesting.) A scar that runs from one side of his chest to the opposite collar bone, inches from his throat.

Quirks and Habits worthy of mention - Taps or rubs at his lips when he’s wanting a smoke.

Personal History 3rd person (1st is acceptable) but please be as detailed as possible, this can/will affect your rp with other players.

When your parents name you Athanasios, they generally expect great things from you. The Pulitzer Prize, perhaps. Revolutionary scientist. Savior of all Mankind. They would settle for something more modest, perhaps. A politician, perhaps. But a name like Athanasios ought to be in print.

Thanos’s parents still have the newspaper clipping from their little boy’s first appearance in the media – at the age of eight, he won a poetry contest with his precocious entry ‘Imaginary Friends.’ He was sent to one of the finest secondary schools in the country, which was sure to prepare him for a life full of newspaper clippings and other such honors.

Well, that was what some said about the school. Others just called it the place where you could get the –expensive- drugs.

They don’t have the clippings of his three arrests. To be fair, they likely didn’t know about the last one, because by then they had cut off all contact with their little boy who had started with so much potential. They had, they felt, done their best; they believed young people had to learn to make their own choices, even if they were the wrong ones, and thus gave him liberal freedoms. These things had worked so well for all the other families they knew. They tolerated his band practices, supported his goals regardless of their ambition, and generally tried to treat him as an adult instead of the teenager he was.

But, of course, they had zero tolerance for the hard drugs. The –really- bad stuff. And so when Thanos was caught dealing, his parents promptly cut all ties and washed their hands of their clearly out of control son. After all, they also had a daughter to think of, a pretty girl with a bright future who would later run off to Korea, get married, and never speak to her family again.

By his third stint behind bars, Thanos figured he was getting the hang of the system. He had trouble the first time, in juvie, because he was a little weird, quiet in crowds, and because he was pretty scrawny at the time, but he figured out how to make all that work for him in the end.

He didn't adapt by being the biggest or the strongest, but nor was he a suckup by any means. He simply had a certain strength of character that intimidated the weak of mind and earned him the respect of the bright ones. Everyone assumed he had connections with ‘the other group’ and thus left him alone, not knowing he was working the entire prison system, all of their various cliques and gangs, in one big circle. He made no close friends and thus told none of his secrets, giving him a certain mystique. He lifted weights with the muscle heads one day – the next he could be found in the prison library working on a correspondence course with the rehabbers. Acquainted with everyone, friends with no one. Considered smart by the tough ones, tough by the smart ones.

He got out of his last stint in prison (possession, resisting arrest, firearm violation, distribution) with a slightly better education, a handful of connections, and a healthy sense of social survival skills. Several attempts to get his life together later, he found himself working a night job painting offices and immediately blowing the proceeds on heroin. He was a handful of credits shy in each of three degrees – religion, history, philosophy, the liberal arts were made for people with names like Athanasios – and every night he was blowing his brain cells on drugs.

In short, he was well on his way to becoming a spectacular fuck up. He living day to day, fix to fix, walking the proverbial downward spiral and very close to falling when someone intervened.

Janie was a good girl and, for reasons beyond his understanding, head over heels for his sorry self. She spent a couple of weeks trying to get into Thanos’s pants in all the wrong ways – just a little too eager for his tastes, a little too young, potentially psycho, potentially a codependent nutcase as a matter of fact. Thanos didn’t much care for that type, though she was slowly wearing him down.

And then she quite abruptly announced that she cared about him –so much- that she was going to see that he got help and then walk out of his life forever. She claimed she didn’t want to be an ‘enabler’ and was afraid as long as she ‘stayed with him’ (and Thanos had no idea when he had ever given her the idea that they were together) he would continue to think it was okay to piss his life away.

Thanos figured she probably read a pamphlet or something and gave her a slightly kinder version of the ‘don’t let the door hit you on the way out’ speech. Still, for some reason that girl haunted him. He would be painting away and all of a sudden remember what a shit he’d been to her, how awfully he’d treated someone who was, after all, a human being. It was as if her exit opened the door to all sorts of things Thanos had believed were no longer a part of his life – guilt, shame, personal responsibility. Mostly, though, he realized that Janie didn’t just have a little crush – that maybe she loved him, at least a little, and he’d treated that truly human emotion like less than dirt. It all got inside his head. Suddenly the highs weren’t all they should be – not that they weren’t the best, amazing, the peak to his miserable life, but using was…diminished. And he was noticing, now, that his guitar playing had declined. That people would avoid him not because he was aloof but because he –smelled-, because sometimes he forgot to shower and other times he would just get the sweats, needing a fix. He was sure he had been in this disgusting, bottom feeding junkie state for some time, but now there was a new awareness that no amount of drugs would drive away.

That feeling followed him throughout Europe, where he and a rag tag band tried to scrape together something like a tour, riding on more famous band’s performances and whoring themselves out for openings and gigs wherever they went.

It just wouldn’t go away.

When he was finally ready, a friend of a friend came through with a place to do a good old home-style detox. No institutions, no hospitals, just a few acquaintances (since Thanos didn’t have friends), some isolation, and time.

Thanos left for the Bulgarian woods in the hopes of becoming human again.

Things didn’t exactly work out as planned. The people he hung around, or that hung around him, weren’t exactly a pack of choir boys – they were unsavory types all around, and some of them made even a junkie like Thanos damn uncomfortable.

Like the hired guns that showed up the second day he was there, when the withdrawal was at its peak, with prisoners in tow. He was too far gone to really understand what was happening and to this day he can only piece together fragments of a larger story. He should have died – the guy responsible for administering taping doses of methadone had disappeared on day three. He was left virtually helpless to fester in his own sweat and vomit through frequent outbursts of chaos and confusion. On the fourth day he had a brief lucid moment that was rather dampened by the fact that some raging psychopath –bit- him.

Still, he lived to tell the tale, such as it was. That was apparently the whole point. It was some shock to find out that the goddamn nutcase that had bit his shoulder was actually some ridiculously important person but considering the weird flashes of déjà vu he’d been experiencing since the incident, he’d believe almost anything.

Today, Thanos has managed to do pretty well for himself. He fell into Vaughn’s trust and well Loretta was a harder case she doesn’t openly despise him most of the time. He proved useful and willing to pull his life together to help something great, and discovered what it was like to live in a universe that didn’t revolve around himself and his addictions. People listen to him and most of the time he’s respected.

Sure, Thanos still has his demons. Drug addiction isn’t turned off like a switch, not to mention the whole deal with becoming a super natural being and all that entailed. Maybe he has a chip on his shoulder – hell, maybe worse. Still, if he trusted anyone enough with the confession he might say that getting bit was the best thing that ever happened to him – perhaps the –only- thing that could have gotten him clean and on a better path.
