The Nesting Instinct...(attn: Ezekiel, Nikhila)
Xeph wasn't big on tours, usually, but it wasn't hard for him to display his pride in the Kadzait's new Den. A quick stop at the front desk as they entered was enough for him to verify by eye which apartments were taken already and which were free, and with Ezekiel and Nikhila in tow he headed on in, letting them poke and prod and wander as it suited them, in no particular hurry to shove them into their new homes.
Every one of the suites opened into a common hallway, rather than directly to the outside, making it easier to show them both what was available. Xeph took a moment to indicate Hammer's quarters as well as his own so his Packmates would be able to find him if the need arose.
Behind the Den lay the Long Run, the acres and acres of fenced-in woodland that had made this plot such a valuable commodity. It was, next to the Hall of Echoes, Xeph's favorite detail about the place, and one of the things he talked easily about as they made their way from suite to suite.
((ooc: Feel free to drag Xeph from place to place and to poke around as you see fit. He's pretty easygoing and perfectly content to let his new arrivals sniff things out for themselves.))
Nikhila was on the verge of saying that it wasn't necessary when she decided it was necessary. It wasn't an unreasonable request, nor was this a mile long trek, only a set of stairs.
"That sounds lovely, especially the bit about not knocking holes in the ceiling. It would be an awful mess if it should rain."Â?
Following along, at a slight distance not wishing to intrude upon the authority of either Xeph or Hammer and uncertain of Ezekiel's place, she softly teased Xeph.
"I believe stones are more traditional for bird killing... in most parts of the world."Â?
It was almost starting over with him, but she'd been able to joke with him at one point and hoped she could again.
"Well... it's not my fault you all do it backwards," he said cheerfully at her stone comment. "Boomerang's really the only way to go."
He flashed her a wolfish grin over his shoulder as he bounded up the last few stairs to the second level of the opposite wing as Ezekiel's new home. "Australia is a world in and of its own," he reminded her.
Opening a door in the next hallway, he gestured so Nikhila could go through first. "See if this might suit," he said, having a suspicion that it would suit quite well indeed.
He grinned when Xeph mentioned Australia. Ezekiel had done a stint downunder driving the three trailered trucks that were euphamistically known as Road Trains. Huge, long machines that dominated the highways. You could go for days without seeing any sign of civilization as you drove through the barren wilderness. And when you finally did pull into a small outback town or rural truckstop you sure met your fair share of interesting characters.
Course a hunting boomerang was meant to be thrown one way. Anything struck with one those things usually went down. Ezekiel had tried it, and the old aboriginie had been patient with the white giant, but no matter how he tried to flick the boomerang off his wrist, he always missed the target.
More skill than strength the old aborigie the chortled as Ezekiel kept missing the corrugated iron sheet target. With a deft flick of his wrist the old aboriginie had sent the boomerang singing through the air and piercing the rusty brown tin. Ezekiel had got his own laugh when he pulled out his hunting knife and threw it so hard that it not only went right through the corrugated iron sheet, but buried itself up to the hilt in the tall termite hill the iron was lying against.
Ezekiel chuckled at the memory as he ascended the stairs. He wondered if Xeph kept a hunting boomerang tucked away in his kit.
'Well then, I'll leave you to the chamber picking. I'll be off to my own.' With a small nod, he took another step back and excused himself.
((hammer out))
She smiled politely. This was starting to feel slightly awkward and she wished they could just have a nice formal meeting about the school and his plans so that she could research them and put them into action. It would be nice if some one else would say something.
Hammer’s leaving was not what she had in mind. She nodded politely as he excused himself.
“Have a pleasant evening.”
As he left, she entered the room that Xeph had selected. Nikhila knew him well enough to have faith in his choice but was still pleasantly surprised. The room immediately put her at ease it felt open, airy and spacious. She’d do quite well her Nikhila was certain.
Turning she smiled a very genuine smile at Xeph, one with no hesitation.
“Perfect. Not that I would have expected any less.”
Hammer excused himself, and beat a hasty retreat. Xeph had been surprised to see the beta join them in the first place. People-stuff was so much more Xeph's personal pleasure than Hammer's.
Allowing that enough time had passed since Hammer had made his escape, Xeph figured they may as well head over to the front desk and see about getting the appropriate locks installed and keys distributed.
"Shall we settle you both in, then?" He was eager to see the two of them in action, happy to see his Pack of wanderers finding a home here, in Nachton, with their brothers and sisters.
Leading the way once more, Xeph gave a little whistle as his bare feet shuffled along the hall. Things were looking well for the pack in this new city. His mind briefly wandered back to Canberra for a moment, but then he shrugged. The past was in the past, and he was largely more concerned with giving his family a future now.
((ooc: Xeph out, sorry for the crappy response time, work > Xeph))
Living in style would take some getting used to, and it sure would be different than sleeping in his rig. Ezekiel grinned as he surveyed the room again.
"Sweet deal, yes-siree."
