Pranzare ed il teatro (attn. Amberelle)
The limousine wasn't out of place as it pulled up to the kerb in front of Enzo's. In face it was the third one in line waiting to discharge it's passengers in front of the well established restaurant. Despite the subtle facade of the unassuming entrance, the immaculately dressed and groomed doorsmen gave Enzo's away as a place of distinction, if not discretion.
Alexander had chosen to trust Amberelle's taste and discretion for both the dining and entertainment portions of tonights social engagement. And he had no reason to doubt her so far.
Even Roger who was driving the limosuine had exclaimed to Alexander what excellent taste and foresight Amberelle had. Alexander had smiled at Roger's wistful sigh, and remembered again that this wasn't the man's full time occupation. But when it came to service, Roger's was second to none and Alexander could not fault Rupert on his choice.
Alexander half expected the flash of lightbulbs and the press of reporters buzzing with excited questions to greet the pair when the doorman finally opened the passenger side door to the limosuine. Alexander adjusted his silver cufflinks one final time as he exited the vehicle and stepped into the crisp night air.
He stood to one side and held out his arm for Amberelle to gently lever herself out of the limosuine with. She had truly outdone herself tonight. A delightful black satin dress and heels to match Alexander's black suit and leather shoes, and a wonderful fragrance that was both elegant and sophisticated.
Alexander took Amberelle's delicate hand and watched in subdued awe as she calmly exited the limousine and smiled at him for his politeness. She placed her hand through his as the pair stepped forward onto the carpet and the doorman greeted them in Italian with a warm and genuine smile that only further widened when Alexander slipped a hundred dollar note into sturdy hand.
Alexander was used to this, generosity tended to be rewarded with polite service and special favour in establishments like this from London to Rome, and Alexander had come approporiately prepared to ensure both would not be lacking tonight. After all this was Amberelle's night as much as his.
"Some things never change," Alexander said softly to himself as he and Amberelle made their way up to the host's podium.
He considered the irony of Amberelle's contempt for being forcibly changed, and the face that she feared becoming one of the very vampires that remained locked in a kind of stasis. A relic of a bygone era, unchanging, unwavering and eternal. Some vampires had learnt to live like that remarkably well, and others... well greeting the dawn was something Alexander had no wish to envision.
"If I was to travel," Alexander mused "I like the idea of a tropical island. Deserted and peaceful. Somewhere in the South Pacific. Although the idea of surviving on seagulls and rodents doesn't strike me as particularly romantic."
"You might find this odd or amusing, but I've always wanted to visit Canada. Particularly Montreal. I've never had a reason to explore Canada, and most American's I've spoken to advise vehemently against it. But it's one of the few former colonies of Britannia that I haven't been to."
Alexander took a few bites of his desert and wiped his mouth before continuing.
"What annoys me? Bad form."
Alexander's mind drifted back to his brief encounter with Dayle, a rather distasteful encounter at that. No sense of propreity or form. Although being from the Clan of rabble rousers she could almost be excused.
"It never hurts a person to smile and be polite. Of course, one should not deny one's feelings or convictions. But you can win an argument or avoid a fight with a well chosen word as you can start one with a few ill-chosen ones."
Alexander shrugged and smiled at Amberelle.
"I guess I'm old fashioned in that respect. Ettiquette and good form was expected of a gentleman no matter what the situation. So you could say I haven't changed. But I have learnt to adapt and improvise as the decades have passed. You cannot imagine how shocking it was to see an early automobile, speak on a telephone, or listen to the news on a radio. Even the most mundane things that we take for granted now were once considered novelties or expensive luxuries. Sliced bread? The greatest thing indeed."
Alexander took a careful sip from his coffee.
"Is there anything else you would like to know about me? You have my utmost attention, Amby."
It only took her a few minutes to wash up and freshen her makeup. Standing at the sink, she looked at herself in the mirror and marvelled at how well the evening was progressing. Alex was indeed everything she'd hoped for so far, he had handled some of the messier details of her past with compassion and grace and all signs pointed to him mirroring her feelings and desire for them to grow. It was all she could do not to bounce with joy. The negative voice in her head wasn't even allowed to wonder when the other shoe would drop. Straightening her shoulders and exhaling Amby did a last once over to ensure everything was in place, patted her hair down and then headed back to the table.
Walking across the room her amber eyes soaked him up, and it occured to her to wonder what she had done to deserve such a stunningly handsome vampire's attention. Whatever fates had conspired to inspire Fallon to arrange the table and sit her beside him at Ger Kogi needed a huge thanks. Maybe she'd give her fellow Anantya some of the jewelry she had gotten recently as a token of her appreciation.
Stepping up near him, Amberelle gave him a tender smile and touched her hand to his arm lightly. Tilting her head slightly, she inquired if he was ready.
He was smitten with Amberelle as thoroughly as a lucky young man escorting the prize cheerleader to the Homecoming Dance. And it made him feel giddy.
Alexander's train of thought was interrupted as the waiter returned with a black folder. Alexander barely looked at the receipt as he put his plantium credit card into the folder and scribbled a few lines along with his signature. If he had bothered to look up, Alexander would have seen a very grateful smile on the face of the waiter as he took back the black folder and nodded ever so slightly.
He caught her precious scent shortly before delicate fingers touched his arm. Alexander rose to his feet and taking the hand, kissed it gently on impulse.
Straightening, Alexander smiled at Amberelle.
"I hope you don't object. I took the liberty of paying for this evening's delightful faire while you were away. I expect the waiter will be back very shortly and then we can leave."
With perfect timing yet again, their waiter returned and laid the black leather folder on the corner of the table near Alex, quietly wishing them both a wonderful evening. The young vampire gave the man a warm smile and a nod as he moved away, then tugged slightly on her date's hand. Come on, we don't want to be late! Giggling at him, she waited for him to retrieve his card before she hurried him along to the coatroom with a playful smile and more slight tugs.
Alex walked over to claim her wrap and she waited, humming softly to the song the band played as it drifted out into the lobby. He stood with his back to her, quietly speaking to the coat check girl and the younger Anantya let her eyes roam freely over him. Everything about Alexander was confident and poised, controlled and refined. For a moment she wondered if he had another side, something more passionate and raw that he kept hidden away like she herself did. That thought sent a shiver down her spine.
When he walked up, Amberelle turned around to let him drape the coat around her shoulders and impulsively brought an arm up to capture his and hold it around her, leaning back against him to smile up into those clear blue eyes. Wishing he could see all the happiness she felt pour out of her eyes, she gazed up at him for a moment just enjoying his warmth and scent before reluctantly releasing his arm.
It's not that far to where the show is being held. We could walk if that's alright with you? I think a little fresh air would be nice. 'And I don't trust myself not to kiss you silly if we're alone in the limo,' she added to herself.
"This won't take long and I'm certain Roger will be grateful for some extra time off this evening."
Alexander was true to his word. Keeping one arm linked through Amberelle's and the other talking on the PDA to Roger.
In short order, Alexander hung up the PDA and slipped it back inside his coat pocket.
"All taken care of. A delightful evening walk with a beautiful woman will be just the thing to whet my appetite for the theatre. Tell me more about this experience you have planned for me tonight?"
Before the show they have a special VIP suite called Tapis Rouge with hors d'oeuvres, different refreshments and wines. And during intermission we can go back to it as well for desserts and such if we want. It's nice, there's a private entrance so we won't have to fight all of the crowds and of course we have some of the best seats in the house.
Traffic had picked up when the couple got close to the show's venue. Crowds of people headed down the sidewalks towards the entrance, but the Creole guided her date a slightly different way towards the building's side. They paused at an intersection for the light to change and Amberelle leaned her head onto his shoulder. Still unsure of his reaction, she asked quietly Does that sound... fun?
"It sounds positively thrilling, Amby. I was deathly afraid you were going to say 'Alex, we're going to see Cats.'"
Alexander shook his head in mock horror.
"We had an elder in London who liked to conduct business during the show. Personally I have nothing against Andrew Lloyd Webber other than the appalling state of his hair, but having to watch almost an entire season of Cats is enough for one lifetime."
Amberelle laughed at Alexander's protest and squeezed his arm tightly.
"I'm sure there's no felines prancing about in Corteo."
"Perish the thought!" exclaimed Alexander as the pair made their way to the Tapis Rogue entrance.
Spying a small loveseat more secluded than most, the blonde directed her date in that direction. Amby sat and waited for him to join her, snuggling up to his side when he did. Taking advantage of the room's noise level she leaned in close to speak. I'm having a wonderful time Alex. Pressing a soft kiss to his jawline just below his ear she smiled, content to be so close. I hope you don't mind but I'm not feeling too socialble at the moment.. I'd rather have you all to myself.
He laughed softly at her expression of surprise.
"Of course one should still remember to be on his best behavior. I am an officer and a gentleman after all."
"Have I told you how radiant you look tonight Amby? Dinner with you was a delight and I'm certain that your company here will prove equally as enchanting."
Alexander held her hand and looke at her admiringly.
Taking a deep breath, she closed her eyes and savored the moment. Slowly leaning away Amberelle looked up at him with a strange look on her face. Her brow furrowed slightly and she brought her free hand up to rest on his chest, griping his in her other. Her voice was husky with a puzzled tone. I do believe you have bewitched me Alex.. nothing else would explain what you do to me.
Relaxation didn't come easy for Alexander, but around Amberelle it felt safe to let down his guard. And not only because she was a fearsom fighter. She made him feel safe and contented. A rare and precious luxury.
"Bewitched." Alex mused as he stared thoughtfully at Amberelle's beautfiul face.
He spoke softly, reciting a poem he had heard many years ago.
"I do not love you as if you were salt-rose, or topaz,
or the arrow of carnations the fire shoots off.
I love you as certain dark things are to be loved,
in secret, between the shadow and the soul.
I love you as the plant that never blooms
but carries in itself the light of hidden flowers;
thanks to your love a certain solid fragrance,
risen from the earth, lives darkly in my body.
I love you without knowing how, or when, or from where.
I love you straightforwardly, without complexities or pride;
so I love you because I know no other way
that this: where I does not exist, nor you,
so close that your hand on my chest is my hand,
so close that your eyes close as I fall asleep."
"Pablo Neruda," Alexander commented, "and rather fitting I think."
Now that she was looking up into his eyes again the blonde stopped caring what had prompted the verse, the only thing that mattered was the electric tingle that went through her. Bumping his nose with hers gently, she let the rest of the room receed from notice. It was funny how Alex could do that, a small part of her mind realized. There was no looking over her shoulder or keeping her guard up when he was around. It was nice, the way he made everything feel safe.
Speaking in not much more than a whisper, she said You have a way of making me forget all propriety.
Amberelle was attractive, desireable and by vampiric standards, relatively young. Alexander wasn't used to sweet. She was quiet a woman. Around Amberelle Alexander entertained thoughts and ideas that would have made him blush when he was alive. And he certainly wouldn't have courted a woman so feverently and quickly. Bewitched, she had said. The feeling was mutual.
He acted on impusle. Leaning over he pressed his lips to hers. He lingered for a moment and then softly pulled away.
"You make me forget myself, Amberelle DeEspionne. It's a... wonderful feeling."
Amby drew in a shaky breath and nodded. Her throat felt raspy, her voice thicker than normal. Wonderful indeed. You have a way of making the rest of the world dissapear, Mr. West. Swallowing hard, she looked up at him and tried to will her emotions under control. Her pulse was pounding and she wondered if he could see the raging beast she battled inside her in her eyes. Reflecting the soft light at first, her amber orbs slowly shifted back to a normal appearance as the young Anantya focused on the calm his presence could induce in her.
I think.. I need a drink. Be a dear..?
Alexander stood and kissed Amberelle's hand before heading to the bar. There was an interesting mix of people here tonight, although the majority of them would have had to have the money to manage this unique part of tonight's entertainment. Alexander didn't recognize anyone however, and it was a small relief. The last thing he wanted tonight was to be held up in conversation away from Amberelle.
The raven haired bar tender smiled at Alexander as he approached. "What can I get you tonight, sir?"
"Two reds." Alexander replied.
He collected the glasses of wine in short order and thanked the bar tender. She seemed genuinely disappointed that he wasn't going to stand around and chat with her. Alexander suppressed a smile as he walked back to Amberelle.
"Your drink, madam."
Alexander handed a glass to Amberelle and took his place beside her.
"Now what shall we drink to, my dear?"
Ahh thank you, cheri.
Taking the glass from him, the blonde happily scooted closer when he was once more beside her. Making a soft 'hmm' noise she thought for a moment. 'How about..' Holding her glass up to him she nodded slightly then said, To new beginnings and experiences .
"And may they all be interesting, varied and pleasant."
Amberelle blushed slightly as the rims of the glasses clinked together.
Alexander pretended not to notice as he sipped away at the light red wine.
Glancing off to the side, Amby saw they were opening the doors into the theatre. Draining her glass quickly, she motioned with her head to Alex. The couple stood and made their way through the crowd. Taking a program from the smiling woman at the door, Amberelle slipped her arm through Alex's and squeezed it against her side lightly. He gave her a smile that made her heart flutter before letting her walk ahead of him down the steps to their seats. Glancing at their tickets until she found them, Amby just grinned. They were second row and just off center, absolutely perfect.
The blonde sat and folded her wrap across her lap. Opening the program she let her date take his seat before leaning over to share.
I think we still have a few minutes, they haven't let in much of the general public yet.
"I'm certain there a number of things I could entertain doing to fill the time, but I suspect none of them would be to the approval of the stewards escorting people to their seats."
He gently kissed the side of Amberelle's cheek before she could reply. Alexander smiled as he leant over and looked at the program schedule that Amberelle had placed in her lap.
Alexander didn't know what to expect from the artisans, acrobats and musicians of the Circe de Soleil but he their reputation preceeded them and he was certain it would be highly entertaining and moving. Scanning the program Alexander's eye was drawn to pictures of dazzling costumes and feats of acrobatics from tonight's troupe.
"I'm glad you brought me here tonight," Alexander commented as he continued to read the program on Amberelle's lap.
They stayed snuggled up reading the program until the auditorium was filled with the soft buzz of voices from the capacity crowd. When the lights began to dim she turned her face and pressed a kiss to the warm flesh above his collar. Speaking against his neck, Amby whispered Maybe during intermission you can tell me about those things you wanted to do to pass the time.. My mind's been in overdrive trying to figure them out. She chuckled softly. Impulsively she opened her mouth slightly and gently scraped her fangs over his skin.
