Shopping ((open))
Amberelle stood in the middle of one of the Mall's large courtards and slowly turned in a circle. This was one of her favorite things to do, just wander the mall shopping. She'd even dressed in one of her favorite outfits, navy leather pants, matching combat style boots and her black 'Bite Me' t-shirt. Right now she should be feeling elated, or at least energized, but she was more depressed and confused than anything else.
Everywhere she looked there was a display or a banner hawking a sale for the upcoming holiday that had brought her out tonight. This was a completely foreign feeling for her, shopping for someone else. For her family gift getting was easy, she either didn't bother or she stole some kind of collectible that appealed to them. However she had absolutely no clue what to get Alex. Valentine's Day was not only the the first holiday together since they'd started seeing one another but it was THE big couple holiday. God forbid she mess this one up.
The blonde chewed on her bottom lip and fidgeted with the bags she carried. So many stores to choose from, and here she was at a complete loss. The first few she'd gone in to had ended with her just buying something for herself and beating a hasty retreat. Amberelle had even broke down and asked one of the saleswomen for suggestions but when asked, 'Well what does he like?' her eyes had gone wide and she'd frozen.
After all what do you get for your beau who's several hundred years old, and probably has everything he really wants already? It was bad enough to be trying to find the perfect gift, but she wanted one that said far too much all in one tiny object. Glowering at yet another jewelry store, Amby wished she was dating a girl.. then at least you just bought something brilliantly sparkly and were done. Diamonds spoke volumes for men, the lucky bastards. What do you buy for a guy that says I adore you, you're perfect, and oh by the way I love you?
Walking over to sit on a bench and looking decidely depressed, she leaned back with a large sigh.
Meegan laughed and lifted her glass as well. "Thank you, and to the fates that have touched out lives."
She drank of the fruity slush, and blinked at the little kick from the alcohol. It was very good. "I'm certain that it was nothing I did, because I have made way too many mistakes to deserve such a gift."
She grinned, picked up a fry and swirled it contemplatively through the dressing. "I certainly hope that most people find someone that makes them so deliriously happy, but it is nice to know that we are among the few."
She put the gooey fry into her mouth. "I'm certainly not go to share, in any case."
She swallowed the mouthful, and washed it down with water. "So other than going to parties and falling for the perfect man, what have you been up to since the last time we ran into each other?"
'Let's see.. I have been enjoying my retirement from professional killing.' Nope that wouldn't do. 'Learning the feeding places and patterns of a new city.' Nu-uh. 'Trying to come to grips with being immortal.' Again a negative. 'Meeting interesting new people and learning all vampires aren't complete assholes and manipulative bastards.' Now that one could work if she left off the whole undead angle. Maybe lead in with something a tad bit more generic though, the blonde decided. Swallowing, she sucked a large sip of the citrus drink up through her straw and leaned against the cushioned booth's back.
Well... for the most part a fat lot of nothing. Reading, shopping.. just relaxing. Giving Meegan a grin she chuckled, anticipating what her thoughts might be. Yeah, for a whole year. She smirked and shrugged a shoulder slightly.
This move was more about finding myself and kind of learning who I am really. Getting a fresh start on a new life, you know what I mean? Pausing she smiled faintly. A perk has been getting to know some really cool people here and realizing not everyone is a complete sadistic bastard like most of my family back home.
"Once the girls are born I won't have time to turn in a circle much less do a fat lot of nothing. I envy you, but only a little."
She gave the blonde a wink and popped the fry into her mouth before it dripped everywhere.
"I remember making the move to Nachton, it was much for the same reason, and to prove to the world that I could do this all by myself and that I didn't need a family name and old money to make it work. It's liberating and frightening and so far I've found it was the best decision I've ever made."
She sipped her water and selected another fry. "I have big plans for my future, that never would have twinkled had I not set off to prove something." Grinning she put the fry in her mouth.
Taking a long sip of her drink, Amby tried to understand just what she was feeling. Happy for Meegan, certainly. Envious some, yes. Sad, definately. It was strange, she'd never expected to find someone to be with so it hadn't been a big deal to her. And then when she did find someone it wasn't really an option so it seemed insignificant. Just when suddenly there it was in front of her,it brought back a lot of painful issues that the Creole thought she was long over.
Her amber eyes snapped back up to the designer's face when something she'd said sank in. When "the girls" are born? Are you having a girl.. two girls? Her voice had become quite excited, what an amazing thing if that was true.
Meegan swallowed another mouthful of chili, cheese and potatoes, and grinned at Amberelle. "Yes, two girls. It's so exciting. You see Rachyl was having a very difficult time conceiving so we used my eggs along with her's and we were hoping one would take and it seems two did and they are both little girls. We're dying to know if they are both from my eggs or Rachyl's or one of each. Wouldn't it be something if it was one of each?" The southern gentry in her came out in that question and made her cheeks pink at the slip in accent. To give herself a moment to recover she took a long drink of sangria.
"It was the coolest thing to see their tiny little hands and feet, and to watch their hearts beat and then they did that 4-D ultrasound and we got to see their squashed little faces and hear their hearts beat." Her momentary lapse gone, her voice became excited with reliving the ultrasounds again. She was beyond excited and there were sleepless nights when she just couldn't wait for them any more and would go and lay her cheek on Rachyl's naked belly and murmur to them.
"Their hearts beat just out of sync so we could hear them both. It was just amazing." She stopped herself from gushing more, as she didn't want to make Amberelle uncomfortable, but her own joy was difficult to suppress. She was saved from filling the sudden silence by the arrival of Chad with their dinner. He set their dishes before them and asked if they were finished with the fries. She said that she was and looked to Amberelle to confirm that she was as well or to ask that they be left on the table.
The arrival of their dinners was quite welcome and she wiggled her nearly empty glass at the waiter, letting him know to bring her another. Agreeing with her friend, she waved what remained of the fries away and just grinned at the large, steaming steak Chad placed in front of her. It smelled delicious and Amby was very glad she's ordered it rare as her stomach growled. Blushing faintly, she just bit her lip and grinned at Meegan, her honey colored eyes sparkling.
Once everything was in place and Chad had gone off to, hopefully, fetch her a new drink Amberelle cut into the steak and didn't bother to hide the happy look on her face as she took her first bite. Tasty seared exterior and nice juicy, bloody flesh. Her fangs tingled and she just chewed slowly. Oh yes, she would be stopping by someplace to get some real sustinance after they parted ways.
The blonde ate quietly, simply nodding and smiling with satisfied mm'ing noises for a few more bites before pausing to mix up her baked potatoe. Glancing up at Meegan through her lashes, she grinned. So would it be too work related if I asked you to go clothes shopping with me sometime? I bet you will need a change from baby clothes and nursery furnishing soon. And I have found the art of shoe shopping to be the best for re-centering oneself. She giggled some at her sillyness.
She looked up from stirring the salad and smiled at the blonde. "Shopping is never work related. And clothes shopping is always a favorite past time of mine." Mischief slipped into her smile as she stabbed lettuce with her fork. "Shoe shopping is alway cathartic, though my master card doesn't agree."
She motioned with her head toward the pile of bags at her feet and slipped the salad into her mouth.
I have come to the conclusion though, she said after she'd quit laughing, that I am going to have to either rent a storage space for my out fo season things or start purging. Taking a bite of the creamy baked potatoe, she shrugged and gave Meegan a grin. Which really is sad considering I came to Nachton less than two years ago with barely two suitcases of things. Pausing a moment, she looked thoughtful. You know, I could donate some things, I guess. Maybe find a battered women's shelter or something like that. Amby pondered that. She really did need to make more room in her closet, and that would be a cause she could wholeheartedly support, given her own childhood.
"I've been giving my stuff to the Children's Hospital for years. Once a year they hold a sort of silent auction thing and they put the one of a kinds and designers up along with stuff from other prominent figures that I brow beat into donating. They usually give in though since it means they don't have to write a check, they still get the tax deduction, and they get to go shopping for more."
She chuckled and put another bite of steak in her mouth. She felt incredibly indulgent eating steak with a nice companion. It turned to guilt when she thought of Rachyl sitting home alone waiting for her to get home. She'd stop and get flowers and ice cream to make it up to her lover. With that thought she went back to indulging herself with another bite of steak.
"I'd be more than happy to take your things in with mine. I can call you and let you know when I'm going next, if you want."
Glancing down at her plate she realized she'd almost inhaled her steak. Slightly embarassed, she hoped her companion hadn't noticed. Especially as she took an opportunity while Meegan looked away to wipe up a little bloody juices with her finger and lick it clean. Oh yes, she was still hungry.
A fresh margarita appeared and she turned a brilliant smile towards Chad, thanking him. He gave both of them a flirtatious smile and asked if they needed anything else, or had room for some dessert. Biting back the urge to ask if he was on the menu, Amby thought for a second then looked at the designer. Want to split something chocolate and sinful?
She went to cut more steak and found she only had one more bite left. She'd piratically inhaled her meal. She looked up with a sheepish grin on her face and saw that Amberelle had done the same. Relieved, she finished off her sangria and wiped mouth and fingers.
Chad brought Amberelle's new drink and she declined another drink, but let a wicked smile curl her lips at her dinner companions question.
"Oh, yes, yes I do."
She turned her smile up to Chad and gave his arm a pat. "Sinful chocolate, please." He returned her smile with one of his own and left them to put in the dessert order. She looked up at Amberelle and a thought crossed her mind. She had found her last great assistant over a chance meal, and she wondered if...'no, that was just silly. Amberelle didn't want to be the assistant to a clothing designer, she was destined for much better things than that. Still...'
She twirled a corner of her napkin with her fingers, pulled her upper lip between her teeth for a second, and then finally decided that the worst Amberelle could do was say no.
"Amberelle? How do you feel about working in the fashion industry."
How could she explain this? Her gut instinct was that after living in Nachton for a while and traveling in several different social circles, the odds were pretty high that Meegan was at least somewhat aware of kindred. But there was no way to know for sure. Well, without just dropping a hint. Looking up and meeting her eyes, Amby smiled faintly.
I am kind of a night owl... Working days isn't an option for me. Comprende vous?
She gave Amberelle a grin, showing she wasn't upset or being nasty. "That kind of sucks though, since I haven't worked nights since that crazy woman and her just a loony nephew attacked me. Hey, maybe you know them." Meegan had to chuckle. "Sorry, that's me assuming too much. I should hush and let you answer for yourself. Though, just so you know my ex had them and so does my best friend...fangs I mean."
She was babbling again, and took a drink to silence herself.
Leaning back with a sigh, Amberelle gave Meegan an appologetic look. It is too bad, working in fashion would probably be a blast but honestly.. I don't know if a normal 9 to 5 kind of job would work for me anyways. I've never had one. But.. her amber eyes sparkled with mirth as she spoke, if you ever need a tall, leggy blonde fashion model for an evening show... Amby motioned to herself and nodded with a playful grin.
Chad returned just then and set an enormous chunk of dark chocolate cake flanked with small scoops of vanilla icecream and fudge drizzled everywhere between the two of them. As he gathered up their dinner plates the vampire bounced a little in her seat and grinned at Meegan. Rubbing her hands together she waited for their waiter to leave the table before grabbing one of the spoons he'd brought and continuing.
So, why did you ask? Is your cheri planning on being a stay home mommy? Or did you just need a temporary fill in? Gathering up the perfect blend of cake and ice cream for her first bite, Amby slowly savored it while she waited for Meegan to respond.
Meegan grinned and nodded at Amberelle. "I understand that. It's not the right road for a lot of people. I'll keep you in mind and give your information to the person that hires models for me. Most of our shoots are either during the day at our studio or at night on location, because you just can't shoot Goth in the sunshine. Same with shows, it just seems wrong to have bright sunshine mixing with goth clothes."
She grinned again and took up the second spoon and began to gather cake and icecream on it. "Yes, Rachyl's going to stay home. I'm having the worst time replacing her though. I could really use someone who knows absolutely nothing about fashion that I can mold and shape into what I want. If you think of anyone, send them my way, okay."
She put the cake in her mouth and mm'd around it. It was almost as good as the steak had been.
The blonde smiled across at Meegan, thinking it was a rather good idea, at least in theory. Who knew if it would be practical. Slowing down some, the vampire picked at the dessert a little. Amby was feeling rather full for the moment, so she finally gave up and set her fork aside. Leaning back with a contented sigh, she swirled the straw in her drink and took a long sip.
So, are you taking time off when the babies come?
She enjoyed several more bites after Amberelle put her spoon down, before she too had to admit defeat. It was an amazing meal she would definitely be paying for in the gym the next day. A few extra sit ups should cure the guilt.
"I'm going to work from home for the first couple of months, and go in once a week for meetings and things. I'm fortunate that most of my work is mobile and I have an incredible office staff and once I get a good assistant I won't be needed for the day to day."
Chad returned with a little black folder and set it on the table with his best smile and told them he'd take care of it when they were ready. Meegan finished her sangria and grinned at Amberelle.
"Let me treat. I've had such a great time, and I can't think you enough for it."
Sipping her margarita until it was almost finished before pushing it aside, the Anantya waited while the check was settled and Chad left the table one last time with his mega-watt smile and a hearty wish for them to have a wonderful evening. Amberelle gave him a grin and watched him walk away, admiring the view before turning to Meegan and giggling with raised eyebrows.
Ok! Now you are going to call me with the shower info right? If I don't hear from you in a few days I'm going to start hounding you... and who knows what Rachyl will think if a strange woman starts calling you contantly, hmmm? She winked, obviously teasing. Grabbing her purse she slid the strap over her shoulder and scooted out of the booth. Grabbing her bags up with one hand she came around to give the human a hug.
I'm serious.. you better call me! She called over her shoulder with a wave as they parted.
((OOC Amby outtie pending response))
Smiling she returned the hug and then picked up her own bags, waving to Amberelle as she called. "I will! Bye!"
As she left Chad waved her down, she spoke with him briefly, and took the manilla envelope he gave her. She didn't generally take model information herself, but directed them to her HR, but she liked Chad and so indulged him and herself. They exchanged air kisses and she left humming a happy tune and headed to her car. Content in the knowledge of a new friend made and a little longer list for the shower.
((Meegan Out! Thanks for dinner!))
