Death of an Alter Ego ((attn:Alec))
Ginnie sat staring out through her windshield. The SUV was silent, since the motor was off and her passenger wasn't talking anymore. She was not being vigilant and she knew it. It was stupid and a rooky mistake, but she couldn't help it. Her conscience was actually waring with her. Ginnie found a lot of her job distasteful, but none of it ever made her question herself or create a battle field inside her head. This did.
In the back of her car lay a long black body bag, covered with several blankets. If a smart person looked in then that is exactly what they would see, but Ginnie knew they wouldn't look in, because the body shop guys at the Domicile had put a limo tint on all of her windows save the front windshield. That body was a blonde, five-seven, a hundred and twenty-five pound caucasian, with missing teeth. That particular task had been very icky. She'd begun to do it herself, but had had to give it over to Alec because the tears in her eyes had blinded her.
She'd spent the better part of the day and night wondering why she was having such a huge reaction to all of this. It was like she couldn't separate the fake Shalimar in her head from the living breathing vampire Shay. She kept getting this voice telling her that she was killing her own child. It was ridiculous and not even close to the mark, but that didn't stop the voice. This was just another staged death, something she'd done numerous times for numerous reasons. They were simply giving their daughter a way out of the human world. What was so wrong with that?
From down the dark deserted alley in which she waited came the brief double flash of headlights. Alec had been down the alley getting Shay's old car ready for this gruesome little play. With a sigh she pull her stocking cap low over her pinned up curls and slid from behind the wheel.
With the increase in pressure and moisture from her culmination, Alec knew his would not be terribly far off. Generally, they finished together due to his ability to alter his sensory intake, but he seemed to be off kilter. Moving his body a bit questioningly beneath her, he explored the possibility of continuing their horizontal expression of love. When she moved to compliment his motion, he increased the tension in his lower body and began creating a new rhythm counterpointed by her own, fully lifting his rear from the warm blanket. It created a slightly awkward angle for him, but it also moved her lips proximate to his own. Kissing her urgently, he savored the taste of his blood mingling with her saliva.
Letting his rear return to a more regular position, he ran his hands through her hair and down to her waist, increasing the pressure of each downward motion made by his lover's body. With each exquisite crash he came closer to his own shout into the night.
Roaring an exhalation, he shuddered in delight. Breathing in deeply, he grinned. The car's scent was very, very different.
When finally her breathing slowed to the occasional breath when her brain remembered, she sighed softly and turned her head to kiss Alec's lips.
"Thanks, I needed that."
She chuckled softly and slid down to curl against Alec's side.
"We shouldn't stay here long, but I don't think I can muster the energy to move yet, much less dress and climb over seats."
Contemplating the guilt from earlier, he put it together and really didn't like it. He really wanted to brush it aside, but he didn't want it to get in the way of their interactions, and guilt was an insidious visitor.
"That's ok...I've been putting something off but I need to get it out in the open, apparently. It is probably nothing, but I don't like feeling guilty."
Turning to face her, he propped himself on his elbow so that they could talk face to face. He wanted to gage her reactions. She'd probably be dismissive and think it was nonsense, too.
"Dayle had been thinking about Shay's amnesia and worked up a theory. No one really knows much about where the amnesia trait entered the vampiric community. Since there are so few cases, and it is such a recent phenomena, people have wondered about the new emergence. Since traits seem to follow a sort of genetic pathing, it was strange that Shay turned up with amnesia. Since most amnesiacs don't have the benefit of knowing who their creator is, she is an unusual case. Your line, obviously, doesn't have the amnesia trait naturally."
Wrinkling his nose, he continued.
"Dayle thinks...well, that my blood might have passed the trait onto Shay through you. She thought it might be a contaminant, I suggested that it might just be due to the frequency that we share blood. She said she would look some more into it, but I thought I should mention it now, even if it turns out to be nothing."
More intrigued than worried, Ginnie propped up on her elbow and looked down at her lover as the afterglow of good sex, slowly faded as he spoke. She found every thing he said more and more preposterous, but she didn't care to hurt his feelings so she kept the laughter to herself.
"What a silly notion, Alec. A contaminate? I highly doubt that. I don't think vampire physiology works that way. I don't take that much from you nor do I take every time. And if flaws are inherited, I feel for the poor girl because soon she'll be jumping at shadows and walking on the other side of the street from black cats."
She leaned forward and kissed Alec gently on the lips. "In my opinion, it is simply how her human physiology interacted with the turning. That is my opinion on most of the Amnesiacs. If anything it is a flaw in the human's genome not the vampire's"
She kissed him again and rolled to the opposite side, sat up and felt around for her clothes. "C'mon let's go home. I need a shower and we need to tell our daughter she's dead."
"I'm just tossing it out there since it would have affected you as well. If I were really worried about it, I would be locked in a lab with Nova and strapped to all sorts of research doohickeys or something. I mentioned it because it...distracted me while we were making love, and that kind of irritated me."
Tension dissipated, he stretched out. No more naked time, it seemed.
"Well, I suppose I can put myself back together, then. Something tells me you wouldn't want to chauffeur naked Alec back home."
Reaching down, he grabbed his pile of clothing.
"Oh, I don't know, it could make driving fun." She giggled, and tried to figure out if her shirt was right side out or not. She hated the new stamped tag things because she couldn't see them in the dark. With a giggling sigh she just put the thing on and hoped for the best. Not bothering with boots or weapons she looked over at Alec and was sorely tempted to jump him again. Instead she contented herself with grabbing him by the belt loop and tugging him into a down right dirty kiss.
With her heart thumping and her breath ragged again she pulled away, gave her lover a wink and slid bonelessly over the back of the seat and behind the wheel.
He managed not to laugh. The best part was, in relation to Ginnie, it was mostly true. The rest of the world viewed him very differently. His students would likely be shocked and appalled at this revelation, but they would have forever to change their opinions. Masks were fun. Either way, he was rewarded with a pant-tightening kiss that certainly brought his attention back where it should be. Smacking her lightly on the ass as she climbed back into the front seat, he chuckled.
Finishing his dressing maneuvers, he scrambled back into the front seat as Ginnie set the vehicle in motion. He began to play a scenario out in his mind, then realized that it was pointless and asked.
"So, how do you want the discussion with Shay to go? Do you want to handle it yourself?"
"I hadn't thought about it really. I figure we should just tell her when she comes over today. It doesn't seem like such a huge thing anymore, so I don't know that we need to make it one."
She smiled at him, content in the knowledge that she was no longer hung up over the whole situation and could be objective again. She felt settled and ready to go on to the next phase of the project.
"Sounds good. I'll let you both know when I've made the swap at the station."
