Alrighty then...wasn't that interesting?
At that particular moment in time, Nic couldn't think of two other people he would want as companions.
What was supposed to have been a nice evening with the new woman in his life had turned into anything but, yet still she stood at his side, without as much as the smallest complaint. In fact, had she not been as generous and giving as she had been, he guessed there was a small chance he might not be standing at his door now.
And Kem...reliable, strong, and not at all as stoic as Nic had once thought him to be, but always there for Nic when his need arose. Nic would try, but doubted he could ever express his appreciation for what these two had given him tonight.
Once inside his suite, Nic nodded toward the sofa, and fairly collapsed onto the cushions when close enough. A soft 'oomph' could be heard coming from both Nic, and the sofa.
"Thank you both, for everything you did down there. I wish I had explanations for you, but I'm pretty sure Ellis' agenda was beyond teaching me a lesson."
He would be more than happy to give each of them whatever information he had, but at the moment his concern for Livia's injuries, and Kem's own possible mental anguish overtook the conversation.
"Please, both of you...sit down. Livia? Do you need medical attention? I noticed earlier you had been hit by the glass too...I'm sorry I wasn't able to shield you from that, but can I call MARI and have someone sent up?"
His own injuries were healing as he sat there, and short of a few bruises and minor cuts, he knew come tomorrow night he'd be good as new. But he hadn't personally inspected Livia's injuries, and had no way of knowing what her healing rate was like.
And Kem...did the man look green around the gills, or was that just Nic's perception?
"Kem...that was pretty amazing, you coming up seven flights in the elevator. I know it must have cost you some...thank you again, old man."
His worry for Kem was fleeting. Even if he was afraid of heights, Nic seriously doubted it was something that might kill his friend. It didn't lessen his indebtedness though. Adding tonight's rescue to the ever growing list, Nic was almost to the point of giving up the idea of payback. Soon there would be no way he'd ever be able to come close.
He knew he needed more blood as well, but was loathe to ask either person to get it for him. Instead he figured just a few more minutes of rest, and he'd be able to pull himself up, and into the kitchen.
Livia was quite pleased to only need to lend him a hand for balance. A smile split her face at his tug. She was thrilled to snuggle into his embrace with his strong arms enveloping her in peace, reassuring her that he was safe and well. Between the warm comfort of the water and Nic, she felt the majority of the tension leave her body with a grateful sigh.
"I did not want you to get hurt by it further."
His compliment and kisses perked her modesty but she was glad to see not too much lingered. Once they were out she could scoop the few pieces directly into the trash can as she had planned. As Nic began to get clean she wrung her hands for a moment, torn between propriety and the need to verify that he was safe. The later won and her hands followed the soapy trail lightly. While the bruises looked bad, the unbroken skin was reassuring. His healing abilities were quite challenged tonight but she hoped to see him back to his normal self tomorrow.
With her soapy hands she quickly washed off the skin of her elbows and legs where the glass had left dirt and blood. After rinsing her hands she tenderly ran her hands over Nic once more, to help wash the soap from his injured skin. Finding herself at his feet, she looked up briefly and was happy to see no damage to his manhood. At least Ellis had left that alone. Face aflame with a blush at the provocative position she found herself in she quickly finished up and scooped the small pile of glass out of the stall and into the trash. In an attempt to distract herself she busily rinsed her hands off before fussing with a tendril of hair that had escaped and now hung damply beside her face.
"Ready to get out?"
And he truly would forever appreciate her tender care in his time of need, but along with that, he would forever wish she had not been subjected to the horrors that the evening, and Ellis, had brought into Liefde.
He moaned softly when Livia’s soft hands caressed his body, and he propped his hands against the shower walls to keep from falling to his knees. If he could have found a way to keep the water warm, and himself upright, he knew he would have loved staying just as he was until the next night.
But then Livia moved away, and he knew he would need to follow after her, to regain his comfort.
Opening his eyes, he stepped from the shower, and grinned as his gaze took in her loveliness. Flushed from the heat of the water, eyes bright with tiny droplets of water clinging to her lashes, and cheeks, and other parts of her body…
A shuddering inhale woke him from his delicious day dream, and his finger found the soft curl that was adhered to her face. Watching as it moved from her skin, to curl around the tip of his finger, Nic let it go and moved to the towels. Taking one, he draped it over Livia’s shoulders, patting and rubbing tenderly, and then paused.
“Lift your arms love.”
And when she did, he brought the front of the towel around to the front of her body, tucking the ends in snugly where her breasts cleaved. Then he took the other towel, and wrapped it around his waist. Amazingly, even in pain and weariness, his body was responding to her’s. But having some semblance of reason remaining within him, he knew any attempts to do more than sleep today would bring disappointment.
His hands lightly held her upper arms, as he leaned down to bestow another fleeting peck on her lips.
“I’ll be waiting for you.” He smiled as he started toward the bedroom, unsure if she had any of those ‘womanly’ things she needed to take care of before she would be ready for sleep.
Gingerly he stepped, and with deliberate focus he pulled down the covers of the bed, before easing his body between the sheets. His eyes were closed, but he would not rest until his bed bore the weight of two.
It was his absence that startled her out of the haze of deep romantic thoughts. Swiftly she dried and finger combed her hair as best she could. Hanging the towel up neatly from where it came from she steeled her resolve as she straightened the small room up.
Walking proudly naked into the bedroom she almost stopped and just stood watching Nic rest, his eyes closed and snuggled under the covers. Livia lightly captured her lower lip between her teeth as she slid between the sheets to join him, her desire to hold him close being restrained. Laying on her side facing him, her hand reached out and gently stroked the wayward locks of blond hair. Unable to resist she placed a soft kiss against his forehead before settling down comfortably against the mattress and pillows.
"If you need anything, just let me know."
"There are two things I want, but the one will need to wait. Right now all I can imagine needing is lying way too far away from me."
Giving her a slightly roguish grin, Nic patted the small space between their bodies, and then lifted his arm to await her repositioning.
"I plan on making all this up to you Livia. I know tonight didn't turn out at all as either of us had planned. I do need to admit something though...in the back of my mind I'm glad Ellis and I had our meeting. Prior to her 'death' I worried about how she would deal with my...indescretion, and am now relieved to still be here to talk about it afterward."
Gathering her close, Nic gave her a squeeze. He didn't continue on to voice that his fears had escalated the minute Livia had walked off the elevator, but all things considered, he was very glad her own injuries were minimal as well.
Things really could have turned out catastrophic...
Yawning, sleep suddenly pressed upon him fiercely, now that he was cozily wrapped around his lover's body.
"Sweet dreams, love. Tomorrow..."
Tomorrow would be a better day...and those thoughts took him into slumber.
Just to lay enfolded in his arms washed away all thoughts plaguing her as she relaxed in his bed and embrace.
"Good night, my Nicholae. Sleep well."
The stress and anxiety seeped from her body as she fell into a deep sleep, as she and Nic lay safe and secure.
