Insomnia ((open to all))
Aislinn strolled along at a leisurely pace, her wide-eyed expression taking in everything around her. Fatigue had gotten the better of her for a few hours in her hotel, but she had woken up again. Car horns beeping, shouts of people, then general hustle and bustle of what she had found out was called the Strip. She was used to the silence of the moors and mountains at night, the pitch black of night. She looked at her watch. It was 10pm here, though it felt like 3am to her body. Looking around at the busy street she wondered if this city ever slept.
She looked in the windows as she passed them, sometimes stopping, sometimes just glancing in. The delicious smells coming from a pizza parlor reminded her that she was hungry, but she didn't stop just yet.
Another window was full of dummies dressed in the latest fashions. She glanced breifly down her own jeans and shirt with trainers, wondering if perhaps she should indulge in an outfit or two. Eyeing a particularly revealing outfit, she tried to think of when she might ever wear such a thing. She shook her head slightly; no, she couldn't imagine herself in that.
She carried on up the street, almost getting herself run over at the next crossing. Why did it show Walk Now, when cars still came round the corner? She took extra care from then on, while keeping a mental tab on how far she was getting from her hotel.
"That sounds like a great idea."
Now the only question was where to go.
"There are plenty of places here on the strip if we'd like something nearby or we could go more 'uptown' if you ladies would like to cavort with the rich and famous."
He winked before walking towards the clerk. Pulling out a lovely wallet, Jan paid for his purchases with cash and then stowed the left over money and wallet back in his pocket.
"Yes, they cards, cash, sacrifices and souls... so I've been told."
"I don't mind, where ever you guys want to go."
"Anywhere is good with me, I could definitely eat."
Looking down at her clothes she laughed quietly at herself for a moment before deciding there was not much she could do about it.
"I doubt any fancy places though would be thrilled with my attire though. So perhaps something nice but not snobbish?"
While the list of places to go close by or near the college ran through her head there was little more than the Grand Piazza for 'uptown'. Maybe she just wasn't an uptown kind of girl, she thought amusedly. Close by they had anything from sushi at Nobe, Irish at Flannigan's, Italian at Porchini, Mexican at Buenos Noches or American at Pop's. That did not even include the multitude of coffee and tea shops littered about the strip. Wondering what Jan would choose she pulled out her PDA and quickly found the list of restaurants in a ten mile radius. Blinking at the possibilities she knew he had his work cut out for them. Two bags now dangled from her arm as she smiled at the others.
"But that's the point. See its far more fun to come dressed like this and have a good reason or story for why they need to be nice. Diplomat's daughter, rich guy's son, semi famous rock star...whatever works."
However, Aislinn was new to Nachton and getting kicked out of a fancy restaurant for some of his foolish pranks was probably not the best way to introduce her to the city. He pushed stray curl out of his eyes as he gave it some thought.
"Buenos Noches or perhaps Pop's? Mexican would be great if everyone is alright with spicy food and Pop's has a variety if not."
Jan personally liked spicy food both in what was nourishing and in what simply was still fun to eat.
((OOC: Sorry, meant to reply earlier but it was crazy with guests and things here. ))
"Fine by me, never had Mexican food before, but doesn't hurt to try it." She grinned. She wasn't sure if it was the time, the place or the company, but she was in a rather adventurous mood.
Nodding her head to his choices, she turned to look at Aislinn and blinked at the girl's response. With a hand at her temple she look in shock at the Scottish girl.
"Never had Mexican food? How is that possible?"
While she was not a bastion of cultural diversity per se, she still had enjoyed Mexican food. Sure comfort food was what her mother cooked, Thai food, but she was just adventurous enough to try anything else that crossed her path.
"Buenos Noches it is. We cant let her go through life without trying Mexican food. Though if my friend Tammy is any authority, good Mex is found only in California."
Suki rolled her eyes as she lead the way from torn, holding the door open for her companions.
"Honestly if it tastes good, its good in my book."
With a slightly embaressed grin she followed Suki out of the shop and waited outside for Jan to follow.
Jan considered the bit of local snobbery put forth by Suki's unseen friend and gave a half shrug and shake of his head in disagreement.
"I'd say your friend was overly nostalgic about home. I've heard Texans claim the same thing about the Mexican food there. Funny, I've never heard it said about Mexico."
He grinned and followed the ladies out of the building. In truth, American Mexican food had become something different all together, like many things in this country, the flavourful cuisine had become more spicy and extravagant compared to its origins. While Jan wasn't sure that was always a good thing, he could say that he wholeheartedly approved in this case.
"Vámonos!"
((OOC: Do we want to start a new on in Buenos Noches special event or would you like to start one on the strip instead? Either is fine with me; just let me know where to type. ))
((Permission to move me to Buenos! The event is fine by me!))
