What to do...what to do?

It had been several weeks since Cyrus left for his homeland, under the guise of taking care of business. Not that Fallon doubted that was a legitimate explanation, but she knew there was more to it than anything that simple.

She hadn't stopped worrying about him, even though their communications had dropped to quick, short, random phone calls, sometimes days apart. A Mr. Jeffers had called Fallon within days of Cyrus' departure, and told her he would be in contact with Master Arslantai often, and had necessary information should the master need immediate contact. This hadn't made Fallon miss Cyrus less, but it did give her a little comfort to know SOMEONE knew where her husband was nearly twenty-four-seven.

Until he returned she would need something to do to occupy her time, else she really would go frantic. The idea of going back to teaching wasn't totally out of the question, but right now the university was between semesters, and there wasn't anything for her to do anyway.

Then there were the children...though calling them children was more a habit now, than a reality. All the kittens had grown so big over the past few months, that none of them really REQUIRED her anymore. They all had their own interests, and could fend for themselves well enough to take off for hours on end now. Sometimes even...as was the case with Fred...they didn't return home, as expected in the evening, but were found trotting back late in the morning, looking quite sheepish.

But as much as she loved them, Fallon knew each of her children had to learn to survive on their own, and she was both happy, and fortunate enough to see all in all they were doing fine.

Left with a big, empty house, and children who were developing lives of their own, Fallon found she just HAD to do SOMETHING, so she decided to visit Anantya and see if there was something useful she could do there.

And being at Heolfor always made her feel close to Cyrus as well.

When she had arrived today, she spoke to Rupert to find out who all was in attendance at the manor. Surprise lit her eyes when he told her he was pretty sure neither Sorin, or Mai were there at the moment. Morrigan's absence was expected, but for some reason it seemed to Fallon that at least one of the clan heads would be around, even if they weren't free to speak with her.

She had talked to Morrigan not so long ago, when she had been made part of the Order of the Rose. Again, much to her surprise, Fallon and Cyrus had both been a little amused to hear she would not be placed within the Order of the Night, but the Order of the Rose. They both agreed there were parts to Fallon that would have done well even in the Order of the Hunt, but the decision was pretty much taken from her hands. In the long run Fallon didn't care, and was just happy to be of ANY service the clan required.

Thinking now might be a good time to check Cyrus' suite, and possibly tidy up a little, and get it ready for her own occupancy, Fallon let Rupert know where she was off to, and purposefully strode in that direction.

"Thanks."

Taking the mug in hand, Dawn smiled at the warmth radiating from the ceramic. There was something soothing about holding something warm. Relaxing. She should have tea more often. Considering the choice of words, Dawn focused on Amberelle's speech patterns. Reservations, forcing...his kind. Smirking, she nodded.

"I suppose I am coming from the opposite direction. My pops is Hunt, and assumes we all will be too. Doesn't talk about the other orders, only looks for fighters."

Looking off in the distance at nothing, Dawn sighed.

"Funny how they try to cast us into molds we might not fit in. Since bein' here, Sorin's th'only one who's really watched my development with any interest. It showed Ko that I got something that he didn't notice, and he doesn't like that at all. I used to be his best...now he's pissed that someone else might snatch me since I'm feeling appreciated elsewhere."

Shifting slightly, Dawn sipped and asked

"So what about the Night? Hit me with the story."
Amberelle DeEspionne 16 years ago
Nodding, the blonde found herself wondering at the parallels their lives had had. Such radically different lives yes, but so many things that mirrored the other. Sipping the tea some, she focused on the tase and smell, the feel of the warm mug radiating into her palms and managed to stay calm as she tried to explain.

Do you know what kind of people are in the Night? Liars, thieves, assassins.. cheats, spies, murderers and actors. People who you can never fully trust because how do you know they aren't using those same skills on you? Even Sorin.. especially Sorin. He is a master of these things.. he would have to be, to be leader of them oui?

Shifting, the blonde turned sideways on the sofa and pulled her long legs up indian style. She watched Dawn over the cup, putting voice to thoughts she'd had for so long. My sire.. Gustav.. he is an Ancient himself, and he idolizes Sorin. That is his role model, what he aspires to be more like. So I look at the manipulative, sadistic, viscious bastard that he is and think.. if he is trying to be like someone how horrible can the one he wants to be.. be? Sighing, she reached over and plucked a cookie from the plate, taking a big bite of the moist almost brownie like sweet and chewing while she waited to see what Dawn's initial reaction would be. This would tell the Creole if her friend's mind was really made up or not.
Dawn Ratana 16 years ago
Taking a brief sip while listening, she placed her cup down and nodded. Dawn had known aspects of these things about the Night, and that it did in secret what the Hunt did overtly. The primary difference was the presentation, it seemed. Shrugging, she said

"The Hunt kicks down doors and razes the building where the Night would sneak in and kill a leader in their sleep. Ultimately, what they do is still for the clan...but you've kinda hit the nail on the head. Hunters will always be honest about what they are. Nightsmen can't be, or they lose effectiveness. Secrets have to be kept or they...well, aren't secrets anymore."

Still, an absurd notion struck her. Laughing, she asked

"Wait...isn't Thaddeus a Nightsman? I just can't picture him all robed in black, sneakin in someone's window, pourin poison inna lil funnel, drippin it into their ear with a little Snively Whiplash mustache doin an evil laugh!"

Bouncing onto the couch, she stood rigidly over Amberelle and in a remarkably close approximation to Thaddeus' voice, stated

"My word, Miss Amberelle, but you are looking very well this fine evening. You must pardon me, a moment, while I delicately poison you while looking rather stiff and bookish. Orders, I am afraid. I do so hope that you will forgive my lack of propriety."

Laughing at her own mental image, Dawn popped down onto the seat again and reached for her mug. Sipping, she said

"Well, maybe he is just good at his job and that's the cover he puts forward. I guess I just don't get the difference. I mean, they only lie to outsiders, right? Sure they can be good at lying and whatnot, but that's their job, not necessarily what they really are, right?"

Thinking back to her interactions with Sorin, Dawn tilted her head.

"I mean, Elder Sorin has been more tolerant with me than a lot of people I have met. He certainly does have a reputation, but to me it seems like armor that he puts on before leaving Heolfor. The times I have seen him alone he has been a very pleasant person. I don't believe for a second that he isn't a ruthless killer or a rigid leader...but he's also taken time he didn't need to and been far more tolerant than I'd expected. I mean, I didn't even recognize him when I met him, but he didn't care. I dunno if it was because we were naked or what, but still."

Grinning, Dawn watched for the reaction to the bomb she'd just dropped, and continued on.

"I guess hearing him talk about the Night as a group looking to learn new things, and why he settled there instead of the Rose put a different way of thinking on it for me. But still, mimicry aside, beating people up is kinda what I've always been typecast for. Might be nice t'do somethin' new, but still not sure."

Dawn's impersonation of Thaddeus almost had the blonde rolling on the floor. Her cup was set on the floor beside her to stay safe and she clutched her sides, gasping for air. By the time the Californian was done, Amby was giggling so hard tears shone in her eyes. Even as they settled back to a more sedate discussion, giggles came out now and again as mental images lingered. So it was no wonder she took a few seconds to process what Dawn said and then it clicked. Her eyes grew wide and she stared at her friend, slack jawed.

Sorin. Dawn. Naked.

The ick factor warred with a sort of morbid curiosity so she just blinked at her for a good while, then finally found her voice. You are soooooo telling me that story, you know that. Because if you... slept with.. Sorin..! Involuntarily she shivered and made little eww eww eww noises.

Shoving away that train of thought, the Creole nodded at her friend. I completely understand wanting to do something different, to push your limits and expand your capabilities.. but I think you need to ask yourself if you want to spend eternity being wary around every person in your Order. Because they DO play games and use their skills on one another. I've seen it.. I've been a pawn in their little sick games.

She sighed, the side of her head laying against the cushions as she looked at Dawn. Maybe her own experiences were souring her needlessly. After all Thaddeus was a Nightsman and genuinely seemed.. different. Even Alex was a Nightsman and while she knew in her heart he was just as capable of the deception and manipulation that so many others were, it didn't stop him from being a good person.

But no. Amberelle was somehow convinced Sorin was no good. If she could find a way to articulate that to her friend then maybe it would help.. but then again maybe not.

Dawn.. do you ever get gut feelings about things? About people? I have sometimes.. and Sorin the few times I have met him, he scared me to death.
Dawn Ratana 16 years ago
Laughing, Dawn shook her head. The response was totally worth it.

"Nonono...I was swimmin, an' he was swimmin. We both prefer bein naked s'all. I mean, he's a well formed man an' all...just...dunno. It'd be weird. But I mean, even after I realized who I was talkin' to an' fell over myself, it was real mellow. We talked 'bout music, how t'look at th'Orders...I mean, yeah, Sorin SHOULD be scary. He's one of our Big Three, and we've got the oldest and most potent. If they choose to follow him, and Morrigan, and Mai...yeah. They've got to be pretty bad ass, and should probably scare us t'death."

Pausing for a moment, she considered.

"Still, maybe he was just comfortable in moments. Maybe what you know is more real than what I do. Either way...no...not necessarily someone t'trust wholesale, I know. I just didn't get the vibe from him. I guess it is like anything else. No one really sees the whole thing."

Sipping at her tea, she considered.

"Maybe I should bug Thaddeus about stuff too. Maybe he has a different perspective. Still...none of the Hunt seem t'regret their decision. Maybe I need my own head checked."
Amberelle DeEspionne 16 years ago
Speaking with Thaddeus is not a bad idea.. if you can find him. I haven't seen him around lately. I'd even say to talk to Alexander but he's been off on business for months now. The blonde sighed. In fact while you were gone... a lot of people were. It's been very, very quiet around here. And incredibly lonely, she added to herself.

Lifting up her mug, Amby sipped her tea and pondered Dawn's last statement. While it was possibly true, after all she couldn't think of one that had either, it wasn't as simple as that.

Some may not regret joining the Hunt, but that doesn't mean you wouldn't. It also doesn't mean that just because you decide to be involved in the Hunt that you cannot work with other Orders. In fact the Hunt and Night do things together a lot.

Smiling at her friend, she nudged her lightly with one foot. And if you were really bored I could teach you some surveilance and stealth things, all very Night oriented but that could help in the Hunt as well. Pausing she shrugged. There's areas where the orders all overlap, so it's never black and white.
Dawn Ratana 16 years ago
Stretching back over the arm of the sofa, Dawn stretched. The overlapping deal was all true enough, which didn't help matters any. She wanted it to be more clear cut in this case, so she could make a more active decision. With a heavy sigh, she leaned back forward and sipped from her mug again.

"I know there ain't a right'r wrong here...I just don't get th'reasons for th'overlap. I mean, if one group is for this, then why's the other not always for that? Seems odd t'ave th'Orders at all if they layer like that."

There had to be some history that was being missed, some clue as to why the divisions existed back in antiquity. Likely it would be in their library, but that was for another time.
Amberelle DeEspionne 16 years ago
Sighing softly, Amberelle wondered why she hadn't been clearer. Shaking her head, the blonde leaned forward as she explained.

There really are distinct divisions with the Orders but what I meant was.. with the Night and Hunt there are overlaps in training. In skills needed. Stealth, fighting techniques.. both apply. Knowledge of security systems, a basic psychological understanding of humans and even kindred.. so you understand your targets.. Does that make sense? Each Order is seperate but one person can be suited to more than one. It's simply a matter of what do you want to do.

Her tea was cool now, so she set the mug aside and leaned her elbows onto her knees, chin propped in her hands as she studied Dawn. It was so easy to dismiss the girl as no better than Hunt material with her brash and impetuous personality. But she knew there was a lot more under the surface so it wasn't too suprising to the Creole that Sorin had seen the untapped potential within the young vampire. But what would truly make the Californian happy? That was the big question. And ultimately one Dawn had to make for herself. After all.. Amby knew she couldn't even decide for herself, how could she help someone else?

Closing her eyes, the beginings of a headache started burning behind her eyes as all of her own questions and niggling little doubts began rushing to the surface. Her fingertips rubbed at her temples as she attempted to shut off the barrage.
Dawn Ratana 16 years ago
Screwing up her face a little bit, Dawn shook her head. It really was all a terrible mess, wasn't it? She was trying to settle on an answer that would echo down the rest of her possibly unending existence before she had finished really learning about herself. Laughing, she blurted

"Well, th'ole thing's fuckin' retarded, reals! I mean, what th'fuck'm I thinkin? I don't know myself NOW yet, how can I really plan for who I'm gonna be next week, ne'rmind next century. I need t'not rush shit, and just deal wi' gettin'n touch w'who I am."

Popping back upright, she sighed, and slowed down. There was a lot of truth to what she'd just spilled, but it was not precise enough for her liking. Focusing, she continued.

"I mean, what I'm tryin' to say is that I've enough trouble deciding on what I want to LOOK like. Dealin' with the heavier social issues an' choosin' a profession for eternity...well...probably not the best of ideas until I know what I want to look at in th'mirror each night. I think that maybe my internal changes are happenin' too rapidly to...I dunno...settle...on what I'd like to be. Y'know. When I don't grow up but am old anyway."
Amberelle DeEspionne 16 years ago
The blonde could only grin at her friend. Sometimes the wisdom that Dawn spouted was.. well.. wise far beyond her years. Nodding in agreement, Amby knew she couldn't have said it better.

That's exactly what I have been doing... Once I came here and realized I had the chance to make the choice for myself, that I wasn't obligated to follow the path set out for me by my Sire, I have been getting to know just who Amberelle really is. Her mouth twisted in a wry smile and she tried not to chuckle. She's kind of different than I thought.

Exhaling with a sigh, she leaned back and crossed her arms under her breasts, foot tapping on the sofa as she stared up at the ceiling. Absently she chewed on her bottom lip. I think you are putting a lot of pressure on yourself to make this decision because you want it done, not because you want to do it. Does that make sense? It did to her, it was those times when she just wanted the indecision over so she could move on that Amby had to remind herself not to rush to a rash decision.

Hey... Sitting up again she looked at the Californian with a furrowed brow. I was wondering... who said once you make the decision you can't switch? Are we really stuck for eternity?

That idea was a bit depressing.
Dawn Ratana 16 years ago
Hearing Amberelle say that she was going through a similar issue of self-discovery and departure from her pre-selected path somehow alleviated a lot of Dawn's stress about the issues. Letting out tension from her shoulders (where had that come from, anyway?), she smiled. Getting to know one's self seemed to be a lot of fun, but a lot of work.

"I guess that's bound t'happen. I mean, I know I was rebelling...an'now I've gotta see which parts of my reactions're me, an' which're just rebellion outta habit."

Gesturing to herself, she smirked.

"I mean, I already had all this in my closet. I go back to natural colorin' from time t'time. Is it because that's who I am under all my reactions, or because I wanna remember my roots? 'Fore I figure THAT out, I dunno if I have any business with questions larger than that."

But...were they really larger issues? Cocking her head, she pondered a moment. Really, knowing who you are and what you're about was the core of the whole issue. If she knew that already, answering the smaller question of what to do with her eternity would be easier - it was a subordinate issue. Shaking her head, she continued.

"No, I got it backward. The whole 'Know Thyself' thing is bigger'ere, and it'll solve the problem anyway."

The idea of changing departments had never even occurred to Dawn.

"Uhh....y'know...I've no fucking clue. I've never heard of it bein' done, but that means about jack and shit for how old I am. I mean, if switchin's kosher, than I'm all kinds of set."
Amberelle DeEspionne 16 years ago
Oh lord if they started considering the variety of looks in their closet, Amberelle didn't even know where to begin. Trampy, innocent, trendy, biker, goth... maybe she was schitzophrenic. No, she just loved clothes. And variety. That was all it meant. Right? Not some deep seated psychological indecision with who she was..

Wait, what was Dawn saying? Amby shook off that mental train of thought and turned golden eyes to the other vampire. Nodding at her, she couldn't help but think that hit the nail on the head. Knowing yourself before you knew what to do with yourself. And it made sense.

Maybe... maybe we should ask someone? Or see if there is some kind of a trial period. I mean, how can anyone know what to do for eternity? Well.. Ok, maybe some people know. But certainly not everyone could be expected to. And what if you change? A lot can happen in hundreds of years and what if you like umm.. became jaded or something? Or bored? There has to be some way to do that. Shuddering she looked at Dawn with a look of half horror, half disgust. Could you imagine being a Rose for all eternity and pushing paperwork and filing or researching?
Dawn Ratana 16 years ago
Laughing at the Rose commentary, Dawn spouted

"HA! Yeah, I wonder what'd happen t'me first - gettin' locked inna box for a century to contemplate th'error of gettin' sweat on a document or me dumpin' e'rythin inta a big pile, settin' it up, then running, laughing, into th'sunrise."

Dawn had some pretty definite ideas about filing. Mostly, that it should be done by someone else. Thinking over Amberelle's other points, a frown formed on her twisted lips. It wasn't that she disagreed, but how to proceed? She pondered whom they should go to. Indicating indecision to Sorin, or Mai, or Morrigan seemed to be pretty BAD ideas. The difficulty was who to approach with their curiousity. A lot of people would be put off by the question or the indecision.

"I mean, who'd we even ask right now? I wouldn't want t'ask th'Elders, anyway, but who else would know that's around? Th'only people I can think of that wouldn't be weird about it are like Cyrus and Thaddeus. I dunno if Fallon knows or no - I mean, she's a Rose, so she might know if there's like a trial period there, but that don't mean that it'd be true anywheres else, so not so helpful in this case. But I guess Roses are supposed to know stuff. Maybe she'd know where to look it up?"
Amberelle DeEspionne 16 years ago
Oui, I would ask Cyrus, or maybe Thaddeus.. certainly not the Elders themselves. Sighing softly, her mouth twisted into a grimace. But Fallon said Cyrus has been out of town, and I have not seen Thaddeus in some time.. So maybe you're right. We could ask Fallon but I would really prefer someone who has been around for a while. You know, who would maybe have gone through this.

She really would have wanted to ask Alexander of all people but, as with all of her other choices, he was not there. And she wasn't sure she really wanted a text message conversation over her own insecurities and inability to make a decision with him. No, they were going to have to come up with some more options.

Oh! Sitting upright, Amberelle grinned at her friend as a name popped into her head. Maybe we could ask Ysabel? I think she is a Rose, but she's like hundreds and hundres of years old so she's been around for a while! And she's always had really good advice for me.
Dawn Ratana 16 years ago
Dawn shrugged.

"I don't really know her - but if she's good enough for you, she's good enough for me. Is she around here, or...?"

She thought she remembered seeing the name on Rupert's room list - spelled all funny, but she wasn't sure.

"Hmmm...interesting that we're thinking of going to Roses to sort our crap out. Wonder if it means anything."

Sticking her tongue out at Amberelle, she popped off of the couch.

"Well, time to pester someone new. Maybe I should change into something more vibrant for her."
Amberelle DeEspionne 16 years ago
Well, I know Ysa has rooms here.. but she's not always here. So, we can ask Rupert. I'm sure if she's in the Manor he will know.

With a plan in mind now, she stretched slightly and stood up from the comfortable sofa. Amby smirked at Dawn as she headed over towards her bedroom doors. You my friend look just fine. I however, she motioned to her bare feet and workout clothes, need to put a bit more on before traipsing all around running into who knows who. So I'll be riiiight back!

Leaving the pocket door half open she disappeared into the bathroom and into her closet before emerging a couple of minutes later with a faded black tank shirt and blue jean cut off shorts on. She leaned in the doorway to slip on her black Converse low tops and tied the pink satin laces into bows neatly.

Nodding with a smile, she arched a brow at her friend. Shall we?
Dawn Ratana 16 years ago
While Amberelle busied herself in the other room, Dawn took some time to stretch and mull things over. They were about to head off in search of information, and had both come to it in opposite directions, about opposite Orders. Interesting how roads could converge onto the same topic, and the same need given similar motivational events. Looking at her southern friend, she didn't see the same angry streaks of rebellion stamped on her that she'd inherited...though they were certainly there in a very real and practical way. Perhaps Amberelle's upbringing in the Night had imprinted that subtlety onto her every action - she would be less prone to blatant displays than Dawn and her Hunt upbringing. Was that why Dawn had continued to embrace her acts of loud rebellion, rather than turning to a life of introspection later on? Probably not. Still, it was something to muse over until pink shoelaces greeted her at the bottom of a stretch. Smiling, she nodded.

"We shall."

((ooc: Dawn and Amberelle out, lock up please))
