Just Like Old Times (attn: Bao)
Mara had promised to spend time at Heolfor so here she was. She hadn't bothered to check in with anyone. She knew where her rooms were and didn't imagine anyone else had taken them over; if they had, it was no concern. She would stay wherever was convenient.
Tonight, though, she was looking for someone specific. She'd started out in the Manor itself but hadn't discovered him. She had gone to his rooms but a knock on the door had produced no response. There was always the possibility that he simply wasn't there tonight, but Mara figured she'd best rule out all options first. So here she was, just outside the Manor in the gardens.
Seating herself on a bench alongside a pretty stand of flowering bushes, Mara closed her eyes and expanded her senses. If her "little brother" was here anywhere, she would feel him coming.
"And how do you propose to pull information from her?"Â?
Amir they could manage. Between the two of them, each working with Amir in different capacities, with different relationships with their maker, so long as they shared what they learned they would know his side, at least most of it. Subira was another matter all together.
He wasn't whole-heartedly on the bandwagon just yet. Some of this was leaving him feeling a bit conflicted. This was most probably -not- what Amir wanted from his children and how could he go against Amir's wishes?
"But you are right we do need the larger picture before we do anything."Â?
He wouldn't, couldn't, jump at shadows. He -had- to know this was in Amir's best interest. He had to know that it would not completely alienate him from his maker.
She frowned; the two were far too closely linked for comfort. Mara shrugged her shoulders and sighed. Time would tell. It would be the only way.
"I'll let you know what I discover. You must do the same." Mara's tone left no room for argument. "We have to work with each other on this. And when the others arrive I'll speak with them as well."
There would be two more, possibly four, arriving in Nachton soon. There should be, anyhow. Amir's children were, for the most part, devoted to him. Unless Subira had had something to do with that, too, they would come if and when they were called. Mara and Bao were the closest to their creator though; it stood to reason that he had called upon them first, and for all Mara knew they were the only ones he'd called.
"Keep your eyes and ears open Bao."
"Let me know if I can be of some assistance with her."Â?
While he didn't have the best relationship with Subira, it wasn't the worst. It was possible he would be of some help there. And as Amir seemed set on keeping the two women from clashing, Bao saw it as his duty to help in that goal if possible.
He allowed himself a half smile as she admonished him to stay alert. Bao was always alert and observant. The only thing he'd needed this time was a fresh perspective and a nudge in a different direction. The information would still be the same, he would just have another filter for it now.
"And you older sister."Â?
Again, he let his dry sense of humor creep into their conversation. If any one could gather information it was Mara, Bao was aware of her talents but could not resist saying something.
Before she left, though, she let the topic drift for a moment and fixed the man next to her with a curious expression.
"Did he really take two of them down on his own? The big ones?"
He nodded solemnly.
"Barley. I think there may have been some amount of luck involved."Â?
If nothing else Amir had been damned lucky to get home before dawn. As it was he didn't think Amir would be in a hurry to take on two wolves single handedly again.
He couldn't think of anything to say that would reassure Mara. It had been a dangerous encounter, as had the one that ending with him in Shades' care, and in both cases Amir had come out alive and eventually well. They would just have to hope his luck held.
"Will you let me know if anything like that happens again and I'm not nearby?"
That was purely selfish on her part - she wanted to be with her creator, and she too, not just Bao, could help scrape up the pieces if there were any.
"But if you need me and you can't find me, check at Shades'."
Normally she'd have hesitated to give that name away but Bao knew. He was family, after all.
"I'll be in touch," she said. "Enjoy the shower." She nodded up at the sky and quietly slipped away, back through the garden and into the Manor.
((ooc: Mara out))
Bao offered that promise with no hesitation. If they were going to work together that would be a small start.
He wondered if Mara was staying with Shades rather than at the Manor, it would not have surprised him if she was. He would have found it unusual, but not surprising. At least it was neutral ground where they could meet.
"A pleasant night to you."Â?
He bowed as she left. He stood for a moment considering what they had just discussed but decided it would be best reviewed at another time. For now he would go back to studying the meteors.
((OOC... Bao out as well))
