Its my first day?
OK it was his first day... but it wasn't. Well it was his first day not being a glorified go-for under the guise of furthering his education. Now he was mostly a glorified go-for who was actually expected to accomplish things and -who got paid-. He liked that last bit. Too bad, he apparently worked for a vampire.
The only thing that saved the situation, somewhat, was that he was also doing a job for the Pack. Which, while it didn't pay anything, was huge. Drew was determined to do a good job and find out anything and everything he could for Xeph. Which meant he was going to have to be the best junior archivist, or whatever it was he was supposed to be, that there ever was.
Unfortunately, he didn't think that junior archive people ever got lost in the stacks. How the hell had this happened? One second he was helping to assemble an outgoing request the next some one had wheeled closed some of the movable shelves and totally changed his path out. This was not the first time it had happened and Drew was starting to think about leaving a trail of breadcrumbs. Maybe white bread on Monday, wheat on Tuesday, pumpernickel on Wednesday... something like that so he wouldn't get the trails confused if house keeping wasn't too efficient.
Now maybe if he took this right?
It was a relatively quiet night; only he and two other workers were in the Archives and one of those was Drew, on his first night as a full-time employee. Although, Kem reflected, he hadn't seen his suspected werewolf employee for some time. It might have been suspicious, had he not advised MARI to send him a warning if Drew happened to wander from the Archives before he was due to. So he must be around somewhere.
Finding the proper storage unit, Kem climbed a ladder and sat on the top step to contentedly file the reports in hand. He was toward the back of the Archives, and figured he would enjoy the solitude for a while.
OK so it wasn't a right, it was a left and THEN a right. Yes! Light at the end of the tunnel, except it was blocked by the boss man. Drew was pretty sure that information gathering meant being inconspicuous and this was not inconspicuous. Best thing to do though, was to just go with the situation and hope no one else noticed.
Carefully carrying his own files, he smiled at said boss man.
"Heya sir... er... Kem need a hand up there?"Â?
He was having trouble with forms of address, but he did want to be helpful. That and it would look really bad to try and slink by him.
Kem grinned. His new employee was lost.
"Oh I'm good. Thanks," he said. "Don't mind me, you look like you've got plenty there."
He didn't offer any help. He couldn't resist teasing. Just a little.
Of course, that was also a dismissal, which really sucked. The was the first time he'd gotten Kem's attention all day... night. Whatever. The point was he couldn't learn anything about the man if he couldn't find him. Drew wondered, just for a second, if Kem would notice if he radio tagged him. Probably. Best to save that for plan Q, you know when he got really desperate.
"You sure? I mean it looks like you're doing peon work, hard to justify my head count if the big wigs take care of things."Â?
He said cheerfully.
"No such thing. It's all work, isn't it?" He rarely had time to do "peon work," as Drew put it, so when he got the occasion, he took it.
"If you prefer, though, you can finish this off, and I'll take those up front for you."
Maybe that was even more evil. But he couldn't help needling the newbie, just a teeny bit. If Drew was going to work for him, Drew would have to learn to put up with his sense of humor.
And, offer aside, he didn't move to take Drew's files. Proof positive that he was fairly sure the poor guy was lost.
Determined not to let Kem escape, but still trying not to be an obvious brown noser he tried a move his mother had always pulled on him.
"Well that would be an option, or the whole many hands make light work gig."Â?
It was apparently going to get tricky to out stubborn this vamp with out looking totally insubordinate. But he was going to try. Hell at this point if he could just follow Kem back in the general direction of his cubical he'd consider it a win.
"Unless you can float, you might have a problem. Not that I don't appreciate the sentiment." Drew was approximately the same height as Kem was, and Kem couldn't have filed these without use of the stepladder he was currently using. It was too bulky to fit two of them in the narrow space around the storage unit.
He let Drew suffer for a few moments more and then let out a low laugh, shaking his head. He pointed off to the left.
"Go that way until you hit the wall and then turn right."
Shrugging he grinned sheepishly.
"Hit the wall and turn right. Check. Thanks."Â?
With that, he nimbly slipped by Kem and finally found his way back to his own cubicle and got back to work. Those stupid stacks could be worse than the hedge maze. He might be a bit frustrated with his work environment, but he hadn't given up on his job.
Maybe Drew was exactly what he appeared to be; maybe not. It was not a well-advertised fact that Evenhet was the power behind Meridian. Kem had expected some sort of investigation though, just as he was discreetly looking into the presence of werewolves in Nachton, surely they would also be sizing up their vampire counterparts. Kem wasn't prepared to take chances.
While he doubted the weres' main method of entry into the world of Evenhet would be via the Meridian Archives Division, it was still his job within the Clan to filter that sort of thing out and keep his section of Meridian functioning the way it was supposed to.
And, if Drew was more than what he claimed, well - it looked to be a whole lot of fun.
((ooc: Kem and Drew out))
