Wine, Women, and Song (Attn:Therese )
The little cafe was perfect after their long run through the city. Tavi was thrilled to find that Therese was willing to see the urban landscape as just another track. It had more challenge than running around and around in a circle outside of some Y. Sliding over railings, running up walls, and jumping down fire escapes made the outing far more interesting to Tavi.
Now they were taking a much deserved break. The shop, modeled after a French Cafe, had a variety of wine and other beverages, cheese, bread, sandwiches, and pastries. There was seating outside under the burgundy and white striped awnings so that they could watch the people passing by along the busy sidewalks.
Tavi took her glass of wine and found a table out front. Placing her feet up on the little wrought iron fence that partitioned the cafe's patio from the rest of the sidewalk, she looked out over the crowd.
There was a street performer out with a guitar. The case was set open in front of him and he was currently singing "Heroin, She Said" by Wolfsheim. Nodding her head, Tavi smiled. He was pretty good.
When Therese joined her, she looked up at the taller woman and smiled.
"Look, we get musical entertainment."
"I think you might have found your problem then. Some men would rather hunt than be hunted."
It might help, but why she was encouraging Tavi with this wolf she didn't know. She shouldn't, not only was it a questionable relationship it could get her caught. He wouldn't approve of that and she couldn't explain it away either.
The conversation became more natural and Thérèse laughed again. She'd had much the same reaction to the idea of children at Tavi's age. Perhaps now it would be different, but she remembered the feeling.
"Well now you have an answer, let him chase you until you catch him. I only hope he is worth this trouble."
She laughed when Therese suggested that she let Drew chase her until she catches him. Finishing her glass of wine, Tavi looked over at the musician who was, predictably, singing rehab. She smiled at him and turned back to her companion.
"I hope he's worth it also. I think so though, I really do."
She leaned back in her chair and smiled. "So shall we run some more or take a break for some shopping?"
Although, sometimes, if you backed off, slowed down, you could renew the interest of the one doing the chaser. It all depended on how you wanted to do the chasing.
For a moment or two she let herself think about Vaughn, chasing her through the snow. It had been almost two months now. She had not needed to work too hard, or indeed at all. He had caught her, or she'd caught him. But it had been catch and release she thought with a sigh before laughing at Tavi's hope.
"You have to catch him to work that out."
She laughed as she finished her wine. Thérèse considered her choices for a moment before deciding.
"One should not drink and run, so perhaps some shopping."
With that she finished her wine and the two of them paid their bill and excused themselves.
