Slightly Longer Than a Three Hour Tour (Attn: Alex)

Eiryk was down right giddy. He had been threatening to take Alex out on his boat for ages and they just never seem to get out there. Eiryk made it a point to go sailing on a regular basis on nights Alex couldn't get away, but he was never out too long by himself. They would have as much time as they wanted tonight, tomorrow as Alex's day off. They could even stay out during the day. Pak was watching Thora for them, under some duress but she was taking care of the kit so there was no need to rush back.

He'd had the boat loaded up with lots of food for Alex as well as some of his best coffee, mead, fishing tackle just in case and a few other odds and ends. And now he was just dying to go and half pulling Alex with him.

"There she is. What do you think?"

The Häxa was a 58 foot single sail yacht. He'd had all the glass replaced with the nautical grade filtered glass, except in his cabin. Eiryk didn't quite trust the filters, he much preferred the old fashioned route of just staying in the dark. There was a great deal of deck space though so Alex could get outside and soak up as much sun as he wanted.

And the weather was forecast to be perfect so the going wouldn't be rough. That was always a risk, if something should go wrong during the day Alex wouldn't be able to manage, Eiryk would have to risk going out. He'd be covered head to toe and then some but still...

With an ease born of years and years of practice Eiryk swung down from the dock and on to the boat. He immediately and unconsciously adjusted to even just the slight rocking of the boat.

Alex smiled as he was conveyed back to the bedroom... without mishap, which was fortunate. The bed in the cabin was surprisingly comfortable and true to form he immediately rolled over and latched onto Eiryk. It was how they usually slept now after Alex's initial embarrassment over being a bed hog. Eiryk never seemed to mind though; in fact he claimed to enjoy it. So Alex threw an arm and a leg over his boyfriend and stuck himself to him. He hated to admit it, but it really was getting to the point where this was nearly the only way he could sleep. So much for his independence.

He didn't need it anyway.

He nodded against Eiryk's chest.
"Perfect," he mumbled. He opened his eyes and looked up at his boyfriend. He was sure Eiryk wasn't tired; it was early in the evening for him yet, after all. But this was their routine now. Alexander stayed up later than he normally would and Eiryk came to bed with him. Eventually after Alex fell asleep Eiryk would extricate himself and go about his evening, and Alexander would generally wake up when Eiryk came to bed the next morning, returning the favor and snuggling up to Eiryk until he passed out.

It worked for them, this odd counterpoint of schedules. What Eiryk had said earlier still resounded through Alex's mind though. Would he want to be a vampire? To be with Eiryk every night would be incredible, but at what cost? Alex didn't think he could drink blood. It wasn't so bad when Eiryk was drinking from him, after all. He just didn't think it was for him. He needed to think on it more. A lot more.

He nuzzled his face against Eiryk's chest and closed his eyes again, giving a long sigh.
"Love you," he said with a lazy smile. It wasn't long before he dozed off. He didn't quite fall asleep but he was definitely feeling that enjoyable in between state just past awake but not yet to asleep.

Alex's Velcro imitation never failed to tickle Eiryk. It was comforting for Eiryk. You couldn't fake this you didn't need someone in your sleep unless you really wanted them around. So without comment and a little smile he let his Alex-opuss wrap around him.

"Good, I'm all for perfect."

He still might pull an extra blanket and throw it over Alex when he went back out though. It was very special, this quiet time with Alex, how often did you get to spend time just being with the person you loved, no conversation, no pressure, not even sex, just be and knowing that Alex trusted him to watched over him while he slept. It was perfect.

"Love you too."

He said nuzzling Alex's hair. They lay there a while longer Eiryk waiting until he was certain Alex was sound asleep before he eased himself out of the bed, dressed and got to work. The kitchen and the deck were quickly cleaned up. After checking his charts and the stars Eiryk pulled up anchor and set sail again sending them off down the cost. He felt so at home and relaxed on the water and knowing Alex was below made it even better.

Just before reaching their destination he dropped anchor again stripped and dove in the water. The cold didn't bother him at all, when you learned how to swim in Scandinavia this was nothing. He didn't know how far or how long he swam but loved every second of it. Pulling himself out of the water he toweled off put on his pants and got them into the doc just as he could see the sun start to crest the horizon. Eiryk quickly made his way back below, shed his pants and still a little damp, especially his hair, snuggled happily up to Alex.

"Yup, still love you. We're there, just in case you wondered."

The fact that Alex was still more or less asleep never stopped Eiryk from speaking to him.

Alex hadn't meant to sleep the night through but apparently he was more tired than he'd realized. he awoke when Eiryk came back to bed and was curious about exactly where 'there' was. In all actuality he was happy to stay on Eiryk's boat with him.

Still, Eiryk had picked this place out with Alex's hobbies in mind, so at some point today he would go look around. In a little bit. For now he was content to stay wrapped around Eiryk.

"Going to sleep for a little while?"

Eiryk didn't always sleep first thing in the morning. When he did Alex would be able to stomp around and do whatever he wanted to do but until then he wasn't going to be far from his boyfriend.

"Maybe a little later you can come out with me and we can do a little more exploring."

"Mmmmm hmmm... I thought I might. Unless you plan on keeping me up."

But much like Eiryk had expected the ocean air and the swim to wear Alex out (well among other things) he had gotten to him as well. Besides, the rocking of the ship was incredibly soothing for Eiryk. Combine all of that with the sounds of water lapping at the hull and the other sounds of the yacht, the sea birds that were starting to rise and the long familiar smells and Alex's presence and Eiryk was pretty much doomed. Twelve hundred years and those first and earliest memories were still extremely potent.

His eyes were too heavy too keep open and he nodded against Alex's chest.

"I would like that. We'll have time after sunset you can pick us out something good."

There were several trail heads right off the docks they'd have plenty of time to hike around and explore. Eiryk was confidant he could get them back to Nachton in less time than it had taken to get here. But with a yawn, a stretch and making sure Alex was securely in his embrace, it was as if someone had flipped a switch and turned him off. Anything else would have to wait until he woke.

Alex could hear the sleepiness in Eiryk's voice and he smiled. "I don't plan on keeping you up."

As if he could. Once Eiryk boarded the sleepy train he generally rode it to the end and then some. The only thing Alex had ever seen able to rouse him, he didn't ever want to see again. So he simply kissed Eiryk softly and said,
"I'll do that while you sleep."

It wasn't long before he felt Eiryk relax into true sleep. Nuzzling his cheek and kissing his partner one more time Alex got up, showered, and dressed. He made sure the windows and doors were secure and locked everything he could lock.

He spent several hours out in the sun, which made him think even more about being like Eiryk. Could he give this up? Forever? Would he reach a point where he couldn't ever remember having spent a day in the sun, hiking around, basking?

No. He really didn't want to find out. He was here to live his life and when it ended, it ended.

When he returned to Eiryk later that afternoon and crawled back into bed to wait for him to awaken it was with that belief in mind. He wouldn't repeat himself; Eiryk hadn't pressed. But he was comfortable with his decision. Mostly.

They did enjoy themselves that evening. Eiryk hiked along with Alex on the trails near the shore and they ate dinner back on the boat, in privacy, where other things followed that required such. When they headed back to Nachton they were both sated in multiple ways from swimming to sex to being fully relaxed.

For a mini-vacation, it wasn't half bad.
