Stocking up on snacks (open)

Delilah sighed blissfully as she entered the convenience store and the fridged cold air hit her. Normally the heat didn't bother her, in fact she usually counted down to the days when she could toss on the two piece and spend as much time laying in the sun that she could. Today she had left her hair down to cover the fading love marks from earlier this morning and it was making her feel extra heated.

Looking down at her list of horrible junk food she made a bee line towards the Cheeto's and Funyuns. Luka ate this shit like it was going out of style, not to mention the Hoho's, ice cream sandwhichs, Zingers, and the very specific Vernor's ginger ale that she had to order and have shipped.

"I guess it doesn't matter when you don't have to worry about gaining weight." she grumbled to herself.

Snatching up a bag of Sun Chips she flipped it over to read the nutritional value. With a slight frown she studied the facts and wondered if she slipped them into Luka's pile o' snack-a-rama if he woudl notice. At least then she could feel less guiltly about it. Her stripping days had long been over and their current routine of television and eating wasn't going to get her anything but a full new wardrobe of two sizes higher.

She needed to get a job even if it was only to get her out of the house.

Something was bothering him. Thérèse should be officially off the clock shortly, he had offered to wait and walk her home. That in itself was saying something as he had been avoiding the Asylum, the Pack and the Sarkis of late. He was going to eventually make his presence officially known, for now Evan's company was quite enough.

That, however, was not what was bothering him. It was his cousin. She refused to let him walk her home, refused to let him wait for her. She'd insisted that she had a meeting and didn't know how late it would go. Perhaps she was meeting with her lover, certainly he would be in the way if that was the case.

Once shooed from the Arch Navid opted to walk back to Terminus. Not certain if Evan would be awake or not he decided he needed a new book. Walking past a convenience store, even past the gas pumps he could see the small rack of paperbacks. He wandered inside, his nose wrinkling in distaste at the smell of stale hotdogs and burnt coffee. Or was it burnt hotdogs and stale coffee. Either way he would -not- be finding something to eat here.

The man behind the counter gave him a dead eyed look. It was sad really, how did the man get through each day like that? Well it didn't matter to him. Turning his attention to the books he sighed. Trashy romances, while he would read just about anything Navid did have some standards. He fitfully spun the sad rack of books hoping to find something, anything readable.

"There must be something here that isn't 1970s soft core porn."

He grumbled under his breath.

The glass doors to the small store opened and the wave of heat washed over her, dispersing the cool refridgerated air. Delilah looked up from the extremely loud bag of chips to see who had defiled the oasis , ready to give who ever it was a look of annoyance. The look never made it across her face as instead her eyebrows rose two degrees higher. That man could open the door as many as times as he wanted for she cared.

Delilah slowly leaned forward onto her toes to look over the brightly colored bags of salt covered novelties and watched as he made his way over to the carousel of acient books meant for women truck drivers looking for a quick fix. Delilah saw him sigh and wondered if it was because he had read all of those novels already or because he thought he'd find something exciting to read here. Either way she was going to mosey on over and find out. It was hard to resist not talking to him.

Slapping the Sun Chip bag on top of her pile, Delilah craddled the snack foods and walked over to where Mr. Handsome stood eyeing the worst selection of reading material known to man. And holy hell he was tall. Delilah knew she was pretty short but damn this guy towered over her.

"Trashy trucker novels your thing?" She asked him.

Navid looked up at the sound of a voice, not seeing anyone, he looked down. His lips twisted into a wry semi amused smile at the appearance of a tiny blond woman. Apparently she wasn't shy. That or she knew what kind of books these were and found any male looking at them to be an object of amusement. Not, that he would blame her.

"Non, not as such. I am between books and was hopeful."

Even as he was speaking he quickly, discreetly and almost absently gave her a once over for anything interesting. Pretty enough, nothing to indicate she was a threat, although her dietary choices were questionable. Well if she could call his taste in literature into question, this was fare game too.

"But we do all have our vices."

His smile was bright and charming if slightly understated. While not usually rude to strangers, this was more friendly than he usually was. Apparently this was the result of living with a mulo. He was going to have to talk to Evan about that.

Delilah didn't miss his having to take a second glance down in her direction. She wasn't sure if it was done on purpose and she gave him a quick skeptical squint before brushing it off. This is why she usually wore heels of some sort where ever she went.

The one time she wore flats...it figured.

"Well this is the realm of hopelessly romantic." She remarked with a nod towards the books.

"Are you familiar with the area? There is a resale bookstore about three blocks from here, you'll have better luck there than the Stop & Go."

His remark had her blushing as she flustered with readjusting the crackling bags. She probably looked like a heffer standing their with an enough carbohydrates to fatten up a small army.

"Yuck, these aren't all for me." Delilah said stretching her head to the side to view her addition to the pile. "The Sun Chips here are mine. If I eat anymore of this other stuff I'll throw up."

Annnd now she sounded like a Bulemic girl. If she had a hand to slap to her forehead she would of done just that.

Man, now that she could see his eyes she noticed how green they were. It was like looking at green stained glass. They were strangely hard to look away from yet uncomfortable to stare directly into. Then again staring down a perfect stranger was rude anyways so it was best that she didn't stand there like a enamored fool for too long.

"That is not something I have ever been accused of."

It was a trait that ran in the family, practicality. His cousin seemed to be challenging that a bit, from what he had learned a very little bit and in a very... well practical manner.

Ah, that was good news and happily stepped back from the rack totally dismissing the 'novels' from his mind.

"I am rather new here. Thank you, that will be my next stop. Which direction is it?"

With any luck it was on the way back home, although, given the options, he would go out of the way.

Her blushing and fumbling was... entertaining. And when that was combined by her rather adamant disavowal of the items she was caring about Navid gave a short 'hum' that passed for a laugh in most cases. He raised a questioning eyebrow at her.

"So... it makes you throw up yet you are perfectly willing to buy it for some one else. An interesting arrangement."

He was eternally grateful that he didn't need to have these dietary conversations with his roommate. Although, if push came to shoved he would admit to once in a very blue moon, enjoying a crisp or two. But few and far between, a craving food rather than an every day indulgence.

"Or perhaps you are trying to do them in?"
Delilah 13 years ago
So he was new in town. She should have guessed it by his attempt to find reading material in here. Maybe where he came from gas stations doubled as Barnes & Nobles?

"Well, if you leave out of here and go right, at the light turn right again go down three blocks and it's on the corner. Second Story Books. It has a yellow awning."

Hopefully her directions were good enough to get him where he needed to go.

"Maybe you'll find something more interesting there. Chances are that's likely."

Delilah laughed and looked back down at her pile of junk and thought a of a decent answer that didn't make her look to weird. A TV and Junk food obsessed vampire at home just wouldn't cut it.

"Well..there's only so much of this stuff I can take but I'll gladly go out on runs to posion others." she smirked.

"Actually who this is for comes from another country with not a lot of access to this asortment of goodies and now it's all he ever wants. I have a hard time not giving in. I just have to learn not to join in on the smorgasborg or I will be the size of a blimp. The sacrifices we make for others."

Delilah gave him a playful shrug.

"I don't think any of this could kill him anyways."
Guillaume 13 years ago
At least he wouldn't have to backtrack, he nodded slightly.

"Thank you for the tip. It is slightly out of the way but not terribly."

And it would be worth it, he hated having nothing to read and he didn't mind the walk either. It was hot out but not unbearably so. Besides, he liked the heat.

An interesting reaction. That, however, made perfect sense to him. There was plenty he couldn't get in one country that he could in another.

Guillaume was no fool and noticed how she avoided using a gender specific pronoun and subtly called attention to her figure, which was not displeasing. Perhaps he was jumping to conclusions. It wasn't impossible. Of course, if he was right, she was dying for an opportunity to explain her relationship to this 'junk food junkie'.

He was feeling generous and decided to give her that chance. Besides, he was a little curious.

"That is very generous of you, I'm sure, to be so kind to this visitor. But we do odd things for family."

Flying across the Atlantic, living with a vampire, spending days wondering if your Alpha might have issues with your very presence and dealing with a touchy cousin. They all did strange things.

The man's assesment of Luka as a vistor made her smile fondly. She was pretty sure that Luka hadn't intended to stay in the States for any serious long period of time. At some point or another he made up his mind to stay put, in her home. She didn't mind and she was happy he hadn't suggested moving back into that hideous fortress for vampires where Panos lived. The people in that place saved her life once and Delilah was greatful for it, but there was something about living surrounded by predators that made her skin crawl. Luka seemed almost human.

"I think his visitor status has turned into one of more permenancy. He's too enarmored with our culture and acsessibility to the finer things in life like Dorritos and Munchos to leave." she joked.

Delilah was suddenly aware of what a weirdo she must come across as. Here she was a perfect stranger randomly talking to him about snacks food in a gas station convience store. The guy said he was new in town and here she was most likely frightening him off from the city.

"Well you must think I'm a loonatic for randomly interupting you like I've done. You said you were new in town and I hope I havent given you the impression that the people who live in Nachton are weirdo's. I assure you this place is no Deliverance."

Hell if an overly curious and friendly human was liable to scare the guy off then if he knew the city was teeming with vampires and werewolves he'd run the other way for sure.

"To make it less weirdo I'll introduce myself. Hi sir, my names Delilah. Welcome to Nachton."
Guillaume 13 years ago
She hadn't confirmed or denied that this man was family. Which lead Navid to believe he was a lover either husband or boyfriend. There were very few single woman who would resist the opportunity to point out they were single. As such, he relaxed slightly. He never did like feeling like a hunted animal.

He gave a low soft chuckle at her reasons for the visitor staying.

"Perhaps not the best reasons to stay in a new country. Don't most pick things like jobs, family even education over Funyuns."

He made a face wondering what in heaven's name a Funyun was and why one would chose to eat it. It did not look at all 'fun'. And, if the quality of literature in this place was any indication none of what she had in her basket qualified as actual food. Not that Navid was above a bit of junk food now and then, it was quite tasty but all things in moderation. That, and even in his junk food he preferred a bit of quality.

"Hardly. I have seen places that make Deliverance look like the height of civilization. It will take more than one curious bystander to scare me off."

That and she was hardly intimidating. She wasn't even aggressive. If he'd chosen he could have brushed her off or pushed by her.

For a second he debated being rather over the top with his introduction. He knew -how- to do the flashy bow, kiss the hand. But practicality won out, he didn't feel like being that obvious today. Instead he just nodded and offered another smile.

"A pleasure Delilah. I am Guillaume and I thank you for the welcome. And the advice about the book store."
Delilah 13 years ago
He was right, junk food was a terrible reason for staying in a country. She wasn't 100% sure why Luka stayed, he did have an large bussiness back in Romania plus a sister. He didn't like to talk about her much so maybe the reason was a problem with her.

"You sir are correct, it is a weird reason to stay. Maybe I'll turn him on to more...suitable foods next like steak and potatoes and apple pie."

She was glad she hadn't completely weirded him out but she doubted his confession of seeing places worse than Deliverance. She'd watched the movie and that place gave her the out right creeps. She was calling shennanigans on that info.

Delilah took mental note of his name and wondered the spelling on it. It sounded exotic and foreign, together with his admission that he was rather new in town made Delilah wonder if Nachton was the new JFK airport where everyone connected. Being born and raised in the city she really didn't see the attraction to the place that so many people had.

Ah well, it kept the place one of the largest melting pots in the States. At least there was always interesting people to meet. People like Mr. Geeyohm here.

"Well Guillaume, it was a pleasure to meet you. I'm glad I could steer you in a better direction for reading material. Nachton does have a few Barnes and Nobles and Borders scattered about as well incase Second Story doesn't have anything your interested in. Also, and only because you said your newish here, the Elmwood Opera House is a must visit. It's pretty awesome."

She felt rambly again but she was going on the assumption that if a man was goign to stop for book at a convience store then there was a possibility that he also liked more cultured things which meant he'd need to know about Elmwood. She hadn't lied, the place was awesome.
Guillaume 13 years ago
"That or get him a job."

Navid said with what he was perfectly aware was one of his most charming and engaging smiles. He'd known wolves would could nearly get away with murder with a look like this. He, however, was not one of them. He only had natural charm to rely on. Still he did well enough when he needed to.

A baked potato sounded rather tasty right now, and apple pie. The steak, however, unless it was mostly cooked through, medium well at least, was not his preferred meal. Although, his cousin had already pointed out some of the better steak houses to him. She had a taste for raw.

"It is 'mom, baseball and apple pie' isn't it? Perhaps you should take him to a baseball game. The stadium food should be right up his alley."

While not a baseball fan, he'd never seen a game but in passing on TV, Navid had been to enough sporting events to have an idea what kind of food was available.

He nodded polity at her comment.

"Ah I'm sure I will find them eventually. I'm afraid I've been too busy to get my bearings as I should. And desperate times call for desperate measures."

He waved his hand to indicate the convenience store. How convenient was it really if it didn't even have one decent book in it? Ah well.

"You're an opera fan then?" He brightened a bit at that thought. "I shall have to find their season schedule. It has been a while since I've been in any one place long enough for a performance."
Delilah 13 years ago
Delilah busted out laughing.

"I think I'm the one who needs a job other than offical go getter of garbage."

Guillaume's smile was rather charming and infectious and Delilah decided that he was a good person. Most likely, well probably. She usually was a good judge of character but then again she hung around vampires so what did that say about her?

"If we ever end up at a baseball game I fear for anyone who has to sit around us. It'll be a horrifying experience in gluttony for sure."

It kinda was a neat idea though and she was sure the team had some night games. Maybe they could go to one that had fireworks at the end.

Delilah was pleased that she was right about him liking the Opera. She nodded in response to his question.

"Sure am. My dad used to take me all the time when I was younger. They do some broadway stuff there now and again too. If the productions big enough it'll get some stage time. The schools put on shows there too during the day. Recitals for little Juilliard hopefuls that type of stuff. You should definately make some time to stop in there. That is if you're in town for long enough this time."

It sounded like he traveled a lot. A part of her wanted to ask him what brought him to Nachton. Maybe he was here on bussiness and his job had him bouncing all over. That sounded like a depressing time to Delilah. Never having just one bed to sleep in everynight, looking out your window to see a new skyline at dawn, bleh it sounded dreary. World traveler she was not. Deciding it was better not to be that prying stranger at the store, Delilah kept her question to herself.
Guillaume 13 years ago
Guillaume just nodded.

"There must be a better job out there."

As quite often sporting events seemed to inspire such indulgences he was hardly shocked or appalled. He doubted those seated around them would be either.

Yes, this was a very wifely/girlfreindish little chore, she wasn't out hunting. Of course, this was a terrible pick up spot any way, so he didn't even mind discussing opera. It was a fine subject, it could just be taken as a prelude to something.

"I have never been overly fond of Broadway. Some, but not much too often it seems the same to me. Or perhaps that is because at some point or another everything was done by Andrew Lloyd Webber."

And whoever heard of taking a werewolf to see Cats? Besides New York wasn't that far away, especially if he flew, he could just go to the real thing. It was the student recitals actually interested him the most. Navid liked to hear new talent, talent that was still a little raw. Most musicians in the Pack, himself included, were amateurs, some had real talent and could have distinguished themselves had their life style been different. As such he found the potential and the hopefulness of the students quite... touching really.

"I suspect I shall be her some time at least. We are just getting a new business off the ground and that does not happen over night."

Not to mention his cousin still needed watching. While he still didn't approve of the affair he had more or less come to accept it and was trying to reassure their grandfather. But she was still acting... odd. Just a bit off. Nothing major but it bothered him and he did hate loose ends.
Delilah 13 years ago
His assesment of Broadway was simliar to hers. There were only two Broadways she ever really liked; The Lion King and Wicked.

"Broadways are usually too upbeat in my opinion, but there's a couple that aren't too bad. I would have seen the Spiderman musical if it hadn't been such a flop of terrible. I was interested in how it could ever translate to the stage."

She shrugged. It had sounded like a horrible idea to even make a Spiderman musical but kind of like a train wreck she wanted to be there to see it unfold.

Delilah was pleased that she was doing pretty good at the guessing game as Guillaume mentioned being in town for business.

"Well that's good. You wont be dissapointed with the cultural components of the city. Hopefully." Delilah grinned.

"What kind of business are you in? Anything super exciting?"

She was being polite and making sure to leave the question open ended in case he wanted to answer with a simple yes or no and be on his way. The sun was still out and she was in no hurry to get back. Even if it was dark it wasn't like she had a curfew to be back home, she just liked to be there when Luka and her mother woke up. And yes her mom now kept vampire like hours so that she could spend as much time as possible with her new BFF watching television.
Guillaume 13 years ago
One of Navid's habits was to listen to NPR in the mornings as he began his day. He had just heard a piece on Spiderman. It sounded intriguing. How any one could change 80% of the leads dialog and call it the same play he didn't understand. It rather fascinated him. Much the same way a car accident fascinated some people.

"Perhaps you should think of it as a B movie. There can be entertainment value in those, often more if they are truly awful."

No, that so far was very true. The Arch was excellent, the library superior, and from the sounds of it the opera quite talented. He'd spent enough time working underground and dealing with slums, he was looking forward living in the same place for a while, and a decent place.

He shrugged, there was no reason not to tell her. Guillaume was of the opinion that Delilah was not another wolf and since she was out during the day she wasn't a mulo but it wasn't as if they'd chase humans out of the bar.

"We are opening a bar, Terminus. It should be quite interesting..."

Even though his answer was reserved, he was actually quite excited and looking forward to the opening.
Delilah 13 years ago
He brought up a good point. If you expected the ridiculous out of something and go into it looking for the absurd, you'll most likely enjoy yourself.

"You know that's a good point. Maybe I'll have to see it now, it could totally be amusing."

This city had enough bars to support an entire nation of alcoholics. Yet each place survived and survived well. Delilah hoped it wasn't going to be like the House of Pain. That place literally had a cess pool to wade trhough to get to it. Then as it turns out was a giant nest for vampires. That had been a really stupid decision on her part to go in there, but the out come had been much more pleasant than she could have ever imagined.

"Well that's certainly an exciting capitalistic adventure. A good city for night life too. This place never gives up after dark. That name sounds intense is it a techno bar? I'm seeing visions of industrialization and Rammstein blaring over the speakers."

That kind of music wasn't her cup of tea as she couldn't fathom how people danced to much of it while not rolling on some serious drugs. Guillaume could probably open a glow stick stand along side the dance floor and make an extra killing with the profits if it were that type of place.
Guillaume 13 years ago
He inclined his head slightly acknowledging the idea. Although he doubted he'd ever see this musical. It was just not something that he would get around to, it was just not something high on his list.

He had ruled out mulo, she couldn't be and be out during the day. Navid laughed at himself. He was jumping at shadows just because he knew there were mulo here didn't mean he should see them around every corner.

"I wouldn't calling techno bar. It is... well it will be unique. My partner would be able to wax poetic about it. I'm afraid I am more involved in the boring behind the scenes. It will be worth coming too. Even I would go hang out there."

Which said something, Navid wasn't overly social. He preferred more solitary and quiet pursuits.

If she wasn't a mulo... what was she? Did she not have a job? How did she support this international junk food addict.

"I'm not keeping you from anything?"
Delilah 13 years ago
His comment told her that he wasn't the biggest of bar hoppers around and she wondered if that had to do with his mobility. Then again maybe not, she would have thought bars would be a decent place to be surrounded by people and not have to worry about being alone. The bartender always had a good ear even in the shit holes she had worked at.

"I will have to check it out then when it opens so I can see this uniqueness you speak of."

Nachton had many bars in it and only a few that were truely different and unique and they were wildly popular. Even though she didn't know Guillaume she hoped his bar would be one of those crazy popular places as well.

"You know I'd ask you the same thing."

Delilah said as she glanced up at the large circular clock on the wall. It wasn't really that late, maybe her mother would be up by now.

"Aside from grabbing some more yarn for my mother this is the extent of my day today."

Man her life had become so boring. That had to change. When she got home she was going to figure out just what she was going to do. Maybe she'd get back to dancing professionally, and not the kind that required lap dances.
Guillaume 13 years ago
"Please do. I think we can even manage a drink on the house."

Or an appetizer or what have you. Not that he thought he was going to be winning over a regular or anything but she had been helpful and it was a little thing that he could do to to return the favor.

As far as keeping him from anything, Guillaume just shrugged. He probably should be getting back, there was always something that needed doing and he did still want to get a book. But he could spare a minute or two.

He grinned when she mentioned picking up some yarn. This was apparently the highlight of her day. He didn't know if he should feel sorry for her or not. It could be her day off.

"I would hate too keep you from that. You'll excuse me? I do hope to see you gain, just ask the bar tender for me."

Either one of them would know where to find him. He offered his hand and excused himself. He needed a book yet.

((OOC.. out bending response. Sorry about the wait... /blushes I might have lost track of this thread))

Well that was nice of him. A free drink could never be passed up, even if it was terrible.

Shifting her stack of snacks Delilah shook his hand and gave a nod.

"Well thank you, I'll definately come by. Good luck with the book hunt and again, it was nice meeting you."

Her arms felt like they were becoming apart of the bags and when she readjusted once more she could feel them peeling from her skin. Gross, it was time to get this crap home before the cholesterol seeped through the packaging material into her very soul. Stepping over to the counter she plopped the sweaty bags on to the counter with a devilish smile. Poor cashier.
