Playing with Fire

He was determined to show Kiyoshi around the city and since Guillaume mentioned that showing him the competition was not a good tour that left him giving much thought to what would be entertaining to their new employee when he had time off. Evan considered what little he knew of Kiyoshi and hoped to come up with an outing from that knowledge. The man was quiet, he liked to juggle and he liked fire... It was an odd set of things to work with but Evan finally came up with a plan.

There were beach parties and fire spinners down at the marina. Evan figured that Kiyoshi would like watching the festivities even if he didn't participate. They could also wander around the shops or get a boat. That is if the werewolf wanted to be out on a boat alone with a vampire. The thought amused him; if ever there was someone safe from being prey then it would be a shifter.

He told Kiyoshi that he would meet him at the dock a little after sun down. Evan didn't really own a vehicle for getting around the city or he would have offered to give Kiyoshi a ride. An automobile hardly seemed necessary when he could fly.

As he was now, getting a bird's eye view of the beach and the people, circling over head until he found the man he would looking for. Evan found it interesting that despite Kiyoshi's unassuming nature, the werewolf stood out in a crowd.

He found an empty changing stall on the beach nearby and flew through the curtained opening. Emerging in his human form, Evan pushed back the loose hair over his shoulders. Only two small pieces in the front were beaded tonight, tied with slender thongs of red leather, the rest hung loose down his back. Evan's black tee shirt had a picture of the cart from Monty Python and the Holy Grail only this one was full of zombies with a caption that read 'Bring out your undead'. His canvas cargo pants were a deep red. He had on two leather bands with red lacing, two dog tag shaped slabs of circuit board on a long chain, and black pair of converse sneakers to finish off the geek/native look of the day.

With long easy strides Evan made his way up to where he had seen Kiyoshi, waving in greeting when he was spotted.

Sorcha 13 years ago
[We've been found out, My friend. The puppy po-po are on to us.] Sorcha looked up at the man, a rare thing right there, and wondered why he had come all the way back to reprimand them now instead of before. Then he explained that he saw them doing it again. Ah well, she knew she should have waited a little longer.
They really probably should have stopped their little play time antics ages ago. She was kind of hoping they would see the other wolfhound again but they had not as of yet. Perhaps it and its owner had only been visiting the area.

She looked over at Evan and tried not to look guilty. Signing, Sorcha explained "It was only a bit of fun."

It was a petty act of rebellion and she knew it. This little trick started not long ago back in Ireland when her best friend there left the convent after falling in love with one of the local parishioners. They used to still meet on the beach and talk about life, Sorcha's latest book, Nessa's attempts to find a job and her life with... Tom. Then her friend started missing their walks and the final straw came when Nessa brought Tom to their time together. Didn't she understand that Sorcha missed her and that she wanted their little time together without the man who stole her away? Gwyn, barely older than a puppy then, sensed her mood. He bounded off toward the couple barking the whole way. Tom went running, screaming like a girl. It turned out that he was very afraid of dogs and, even though Gwyn was not as big as an adult wolfhound, he was still intimidating. Nessa blamed Sorcha for the incident, certain that Sorcha had sent Gwyn after Tom. She had refused to believe otherwise and not long after that Nessa became too busy to ever talk with her again. That had been almost a year ago.

Now, perhaps in rebellion, they did that same thing on purpose to the happy little couples on the beach who walked around oblivious to everyone and everything else around them. She was bitter and being petty and Gwyn would pay the price for it if she was not careful.

"You are right. We will stop." Sorcha looked down at Gwyn. He ducked his head and whined, not really wanting to quit their game but finally he wuffed his agreement. "It is a bad habit from home. He started it by being protective of me and it grew into something more. I suppose we should both act our age." She smiled once more at the both of them before waving a farewell. Sorcha then hooked the jogging leash onto Gwyn's collar and took off...at a dead run. Okay, so some of the rebellion was still there.

Evan turned back to Kiyoshi and shrugged when the redhead went running off with the dog. At least it was now on a leash. He put an arm around his friend's shoulders as they headed back the way they had been going originally.

"She said that it had started from him protecting her. I don't know why they continue doing it." Evan shrugged. "But maybe she's still angry over some lover. Perhaps he broke her heart on the beach and now she's bitter and takes it out on all the young happy couples who cross her path."

He chuckled. "She sounds like the Wicked Witch of the East." Who knows maybe there was even some truth to his imagination.

Smiling at Kiyo, Evan asked. "So are you hungry or would you like to do something else?"
Kiyoshi Salinas 13 years ago
"It's the price of overpopulation," Kiyoshi suggested softly. He tended to agree with Evan. Menaus was a much nicer place even in his own youth, but overcrowding in the cities had caused it to grow dirty and noisy. Kiyoshi really preferred the country to most cities, but a bartender couldn't make much money there. Someone with Kiyoshi's skills needed other people to survive.

Distracted by the woman and the dog he nodded vaguely.
"Yeah maybe." Evan seemed concerned, and Kiyoshi really thought this woman's little game would leave a bad mark on the werewolf population here. Bad enough to run wild under a full moon... this lady and her dog were making things worse when his kind just wanted to live in relative peace.

Kiyoshi jogged along behind Evan and drew up just behind him when they caught up to the redhead, watching the signing anxiously. When the woman leashed her dog, then turned and ran away without looking horribly remorseful, Kiyoshi watched her go. He hoped she would restrain her pet. What they were doing couldn't lead to any good for anyone.

Evan's arm over his shoulders surprised him, but Kiyo didn't move away. It was clearly meant in a friendly way and Kiyoshi's submissive nature made him instinctively huddle into a protective embrace when one was offered. He looked up at Evan as his employer mused about the redhead's motives.

"It was kind of you to say that to her." On multiple levels. Kind to care for the woman and her dog; kind to say something that might possibly help Kiyoshi's people. Evan seemed to care about just about everyone. Clearly, he had a big heart.

Kiyo slowed as they walked, considering the question. He chewed his lip thoughtfully.
"I am hungry," he said, "but nothing here is appealing." He had smelled plenty of grilling meat so far, but that only made him feel sick. Burning flesh had no appeal.

He glanced up at Evan.
"I can't eat regular food," he admitted. "Cooked meat and vegetables..." he swallowed hard at the thought. "Maybe... is there a sushi place nearby? Or a supermarket?"

He wasn't above buying a raw steak and devouring it raw. It was embarrassing, but since his Gifting he had eaten nothing but raw meat without suffering any consequences. For all he knew he had mad cow disease already. He hunted during the full moon... and, he thought guiltily, it was the only time when he and his inner wolf were at peace with each other.
Evan Talkingwater 13 years ago
"Hmm?" Evan glanced back over his shoulder in the direction of the redhead and back at Kiyoshi and shrugged. He did it more for the dog and his new friend who had been concerned about the trouble she would cause the werewolves than for the girl herself but he supposed it helped her too.

Kiyo was indeed hungry. Evan felt the werewolf slow down as he considered something; he looked over to find Kiyoshi biting his lip uncertainly. It was an irresistible expression but he wondered what was causing the man concern. Did he not know what he wanted to eat? Perhaps he didn't have any money and just didn't want to say. He had only just started working so funds were probably a legitimate concern.

It turned out to be something less mundane. Evan nodded as Kiyo explained that he couldn't eat regular food and needed something raw from the sounds of his suggestions.

Smiling, Evan gave the shoulder he was holding onto a reassuring squeeze. "That's not as strange as my diet. I think we can find something suitable. There is bound to be a sushi place around here. They seem to be popping up everywhere these days."

A short walk further down the beach scanning the restaurants turned up exactly what they were looking for. Evan did not know whether Blu Bambu was any good but he hoped they could make sushi better than they could spell.

"How is this?"
Kiyoshi Salinas 13 years ago
Kiyoshi shrugged back at Evan, a slight smile playing about his lips. Whatever his boss's motivation, he thought it had been a kind thing to do. Evan didn't have to do anything of the sort. He was pretty much at the top of the food chain as far as Kiyoshi was concerned.

He walked along beneath Evan's arm, somewhat surprised that the feeling of it wasn't heavy or clingy but instead, somewhat comforting and protective. Kiyoshi hadn't often paid much attention to whether he needed either of those. Maybe that wasn't Evans intent. Either way Kiyo didn't pull away, and was rewarded with a squeeze to the shoulder and further understanding when he revealed his odd dietary preferences to his companion.

When Evan spotted the sushi bar Kiyo perked up considerably.
"That's great," he said. "They do seem to be kind of a fad now, don't they?"

They picked their way up the beach to the restaurant and up to the self-seating area outside on the wrap-around porch. There wasn't a huge crowd here. It didn't bode well for the reputation of the restaurant since there were plenty of passers-by, but Kiyoshi wasn't particular. Anything would do.

He picked up the menu on the table as they waited for a server and then glanced up at Evan.
"Do you, uh, eat? Ever? Aside from... you know."

He knew nothing about vampires, really, just scary stories he was smart enough to recognize for what they were. He certainly didn't see Evan as particularly scary although he didn't doubt he could be. It didn't seem his style though.

Evan Talkingwater 13 years ago
Evan nodded, wondering whether it was a recent love of all things Japanese or some werewolf influence. It might be a bit of both.

He ordered a large glass of water for himself. The man behind the counter paused with the cup over the sodas and then changed direction. Taking his huge purchase to the seat that Kiyo picked out among the outdoor tables, Evan noticed they had the place nearly to themselves. Perhaps it was the unusual hour; he hoped so for his companion's sake. It would be a shame to have such a selective diet and then have to put up with food that was not enjoyable.

Sipping the water, he answered his Kiyoshi's question. "I can eat but I choose not to most of the time. It is wasteful for me as I gain nothing for it." Food still tasted quite good and in the early years Evan had a hard time not giving in to odd cravings for the human meals that he used to eat but he found the thought of another creature giving its life simply for his pleasure to be distasteful enough to quell any urges to indulge.

He shrugged and smiled. "I do remember that its quite tasty. I hear sushi is especially delicious." Evan approved of the Japanese custom of making an art of their food. It helped people remember to savor it; at least that was his opinion.

Looking out back over the beach, Evan closed his eyes a moment and enjoyed the wind, the salty ocean air and the smell of fresh fish. His companion, like most werewolves he had met, was very clean with barely any other scent but his own and a bit of soap. It was a nice mix.

Evan turned back to his new friend and smiled. "Is there anything you need now that you've settled in here in Nachton?"
Kiyoshi Salinas 13 years ago
Kiyoshi wasted no time in ordering water and a plate of assorted sashimi. Without wasabi or ginger. Or garnish. Hold the soup and salad. He could feel his stomach rumbling as he waited somewhat impatiently. He found himself wishing the chef could just heave a slab of raw salmon at him. He understood the presentation was important but when he was hungry... well, he was hungry.

He nodded at Evan, quietly soaking in the information he was given. Kiyo knew virtually nothing about about vampires. If he hadn't been hungry he might have found it unusual to be dining with a companion who would do nothing but watch, but perhaps Evan might like to try a piece of his sashimi. Knowing Kiyo would have ordered and eaten it anyhow, maybe it wouldn't be so wasteful.

He took the opportunity while Evan had his eyes closed to look straight at him, rather than his usual glances and off-center staring. Kiyoshi was not good at being bold and blunt.

His quick scrutiny of Evan made him wonder, though, what it must be like to live on and on and on with no concept of mortality. Kiyoshi might anticipate a life longer than most, but his was still finite. He wasn't sure how he would feel about living forever.

He dropped his eyes as Evan looked at him once more.
"Uh... yeah. Probably," he answered, caught off guard by the politely concerned yet personal question. "Nothing exciting really. I mean once I figure out where to stay and all."

A little flustered, he hadn't really meant to say as much as he did. He had his room at Shady Pines of course, but he couldn't say he was exactly comfortable there yet. Everyone had been friendly, or at least polite, so far, but he didn't feel like a part of it. He mostly slunk in and out trying to avoid too much contact with his Packmates, shutting himself up in his room.

"I have a room I mean," he stammered at Evan. "With the Pack. Uh, just, I don't know if I'll stay there."

He toyed with the napkin under his water glass, tearing it into little shreds. Way to be weird, Kiyo.
Evan Talkingwater 13 years ago
Evan turned toward Kiyoshi and watched him carefully as the werewolf spoke about his new place and staying with his pack.

"Do you not like it there?"

Several small comments along the way, to himself and to Guillaume, made Evan suspect that there might be difficulties for the young wolf amongst his own kind. He was not sure what those were and perhaps he could go to Guillaume and ask. It was not his place though: if Kiyoshi wanted him to know then he would tell him.

He took a sip of his water and considered. They had plenty of room above Terminus for the three of them;however, that was a decision that he would prefer to at least discuss it with his room mate before he invited another person to live with them. But maybe, if it was bad...surely Guillaume would understand and want to help a pack mate.

Evan glanced over at Kiyo and then back out at the beach.

"I understand that you don't know me very well but I would like to be your friend."

He was Kiyoshi's employer and he could understand if there was a reluctance to tell him his troubles but he would prefer to be thought of as a friend first and a boss second.
Kiyoshi Salinas 13 years ago
Kiyo looked left, right, up, down, and every which way but at Evan at the question his comments had provoked. He didn't really know exactly how to explain that the problem wasn't with his pack, here in Nachton, at least not that he could tell, but with him.

He was distracted by the arrival of his sashimi. With some relief he grabbed his chopsticks, selected two of the largest slices of something - looked like mackerel, and stuffed them into his mouth. Mumbling around his mouthful of fish, looking at Evan with wide innocent eyes he said,
"Iff ifnt that, eff'ne iff niffe so far. Iff me."

He would shamelessly admit to trying to be as unintelligible as possible. Maybe Evan would just let it go. As he swallowed he realized that was unfair of him. Evan was really nice. He was friendly, and he'd offered to escort Kiyo tonight out of kindness.

Kiyo looked down once more, feeling guilty.
"In our Pack there are those whose whole families belong, and those who don't have any biological family. Historically there was a big distinction between the two, and one status was inferior."

He shrugged, certain Evan would reach the conclusion that he belonged to the latter group.
"It hasn't been a problem here, but when I was growing up it was. I still... I don't know. I don't feel like I really fit in."

He pushed a piece of tuna around his plate before picking it up and popping it into his mouth, chewing fully and swallowing. He felt his face grow red at Evan's statement.

"Uh. That would be nice," he said with a shy smile. Kiyoshi didn't make friends easily... it felt good to have someone he might be able to trust here in Nachton.
Evan Talkingwater 13 years ago
Evan watched amused as Kiyoshi stuffed the raw fish into his mouth and then talked around it. Somehow that was less rude and more adorable than it probably should be. He had to run the sounds through his brain several times to make out all the words.

"I see. So you don't feel comfortable with them."

He thought about the further explanation that Kiyo gave him about biological families and people without them. Werewolves weren't like vampires; he knew that. They could still have children. So the child of a werewolf would be a werewolf automatically then? Perhaps. Evan could see where society, which tends towards grouping, would put a value on such a birth. Perhaps it was some herding instinct or pack mentality. He could further conclude that Kiyo was not born to werewolves then. He wondered if it happened like it did in the movies and stories. Was that part of the werewolf legend true? Did a werewolf biting someone make them a werewolf? They had to start from somewhere. It was probably not so simple. Perhaps some people were turned and others were not. Maybe some humans were immune. Evan wondered what vampires would make of that if it were true.

Looking up at Kiyo, he reached out a hand across the table and placed it on the other man's arm.

"You have a place to stay with us, if you need it, or want it."

He wondered about the man's family. How long ago was Kiyoshi...bitten, made, turned...whatever? Did his family know? The bartender didn't seem very attached to Brazil; in fact, Kiyo rarely went back from what he said. That didn't hint at a good home life. Evan wouldn't pry there. It was probably uncomfortable.

"How long ago did you become a werewolf. I am not sure exactly how that happens." Evan shrugged. "I know how much of our story is untrue...though garlic would keep me away in large enough doses."

((OOC: Evan's conjecture about werewolves is very wrong in a few places in case anyone is wondering. He's a vampire and only has a small clue what he's talking about. ))
Kiyoshi Salinas 13 years ago
Kiyo shook his head. No, he did not feel comfortable with his Pack. Although here in Nachton they had been nothing but friendly and accommodating, he never felt like he was part of a family. Everyone seemed to accept and love what they were. Kiyo didn't expect they would understand if he ever, ever told them he would kill to be normal again.

He looked up in surprise at Evan's offer.
"Really?" He stared for a moment, forgetting to look away, hope naked on his face before he frowned in confusion. "Us?"

Did Evan mean, vampires? He trusted Evan... he wasn't sure that trust extended to anyone else. He waited for Evan to clarify.

While Evan spoke, Kiyo ate a bit more of his sashimi. What Evan didn't know, Kiyoshi happened to know a great deal about. Secretly he followed all the science he could dig up about his own kind. He knew some scientists out there were messing with GMV... he wanted to know what they found.

"It's a virus," he said softly, certain no one else could hear them. "We are infected, and the virus stays dormant until we're bitten." He paused. He didn't talk about his past. But he could make exceptions for Evan. If he wanted to deserve Evan's friendship, he had to. "I was ten," he finally said. "I don't know when I contracted it. But I got into a fight with another boy. He bit me. Here."

He indicated the scar over his brow. Normally he'd have stopped there but he kept talking.
"They patched me up, sent me home. I was sick for a couple days and then I got better. But the next full moon..."

He looked up, pushing his fish around on his plate some more.
"I turned into a little monster. That's what my mother said." He shrugged his shoulders. "That was the last time I saw her, right after that. They, uh, they didn't want me anymore."

Kiyo cleared his throat.
"Anyhow that's how it happens. I don't know when I became a carrier. Maybe I was born with it. maybe when this happened."

He held up his hand, wiggling the pinky finger that was missing the very tip. Kiyoshi looked at Evan and swallowed hard.
"I would do anything not to be... well, me. And the others, they wouldn't understand. They call it Gifting." He said it with bitterness. "Some gift."

He tried to make a joke out of it. "Wasn't even my birthday."

Kiyoshi pushed his plate toward Evan, his appetite somewhat diminished.
"Try some? I'm getting full."

He did pick at another piece, this time some salmon. He was hungry... but talking about his past made it taste like dust.
Evan Talkingwater 13 years ago
The hopeful look on Kiyoshi's face when he said that the man could live with them spoke silent volumes about how strongly Kiyo felt about not wanting to stay with his pack. It heartbreaking to see someone would did not feel like they belonged, especially to a group that seemed so very close knit, from all the ones that Evan had ever met.

"Yes, myself and Guillaume. I am sure he won't mind." He smiled at the werewolf. "I could always hide you in my room or claim you followed me home." Bringing home Kiyo was quite different than stuffing a frog in his bag and trying to hide it from his mother in a lidded basket. That hadn't worked out so well as he recalled.

He listened carefully as Kiyoshi explained that it was a virus that he contracted and that he had been a werewolf since the age of ten. "He bit you in the face? That's rough. I hope you at least got the chance to bite him back."

Evan frowned in sympathy as the young man explained that his family had called him a monster and then disowned him...at the age of ten. Perhaps it was a hard thing for people to accept; he understood that but they had not even tried to understand when Kiyoshi became himself again.

The werewolf held up his little finger and Evan noticed for the first time that the tip of it was missing. It seemed that misfortune had found Kiyoshi early and kept following him for a while after that.

Sighing softly, Evan nodded. There were some vampires who hated what they were but they usually didn't last long. He had never met one as old as himself. They always seemed to find ways to end their existence, some by their own hand and some by reckless behavior, or they grew accustomed to what they were and found some peace in it. Evan wondered if werewolves were much the same; it seemed to transcend species. There were certainly humans that seemed to be angry about being alive. He had the overwhelming urge to protect the young wolf from anything else that might come to trouble him and help him find something to love in life.

Evan realized that he was lucky to have been given the choice to be what he was. There were days when he wished that he had died back with his human family before the white people came and started devouring the land. Most of the time though he was still happier alive than dead and he hoped that he made a beneficial difference with his existence.

He looked at Kiyoshi and smiled sadly. "I wish I could help but we are...immune to each other." Or toxic to each other, if one wanted to be very clear about it.

"However, a place to stay is something I can offer, even if you wanted to keep your other place but need a little peace from time to time. I can understand that."

Looking at the fish that Kiyo offered, Evan nodded solemnly and picked one up. It would be rude to refuse what his new friend wanted to share. He ate it slowly, with gratitude to the fish who gave his life and Kiyoshi for being generous with his meal. It what wonderful; Evan closed his eyes and savored the smell, taste and texture of it. He finished it with silent, single minded focus. When he was done, he smiled at Kiyo.

"Thank you."
Kiyoshi Salinas 13 years ago
Kiyoshi considered, venturing a slight smile at the notion of following Evan home. He wondered how Guillaume felt about being volunteered as a roommate. Surely Evan and Guillaume hadn't been discussing him? The idea that they might have made him feel unaccountably shy. He didn't want to trouble his new employers.

Kiyoshi shook his head at Evan.
"No. His parents pulled him off and one of my big brothers pulled me away and carried me home."

He couldn't tell what Evan thought about any of the rest of his tale. Kiyoshi knew his origins would be a turn off to many. His young life had been a complete failure. He didn't always like the person he had become and he wondered sometimes if he could have been someone different. Had he been Gifted as a submissive Omega? Or had it been conditioned into him by Luis? He would never know.

Kiyo tilted his head in curiosity at Evan's mention of immunity.
"Immune?" he asked. "What do you mean? You can't, uh, take anything from me?"

He didn't know that. It was odd, yet somehow sort of comforting. Not because he didn't trust Evan personally, but more because the idea of other vampires being in the city was a little daunting.

However, even with the immunity thing Evan offered Kiyo a place to stay a second time.
"I think... well. Maybe," Kiyo hedged. He was surprised to actually find himself interested in the offer. Very interested. He'd always lived alone. Maybe that was part of why living with his Pack was stressful. Too many people. It was fine at work, but at home Kiyoshi liked more solitude and quiet. Two roommates instead of twenty would be nice.

His offer was well received and Kiyo watched in slight fascination as Evan picked up and appeared to enjoy a piece of yellowtail. Watching his new friend eat somewhat perked his own appetite back up and he stopped pushing his fish around, popping a piece of tuna into his mouth. He tried to savor it like Evan had but he literally wolfed it down out of habit.

"You're welcome," he said to Evan. "Do you want some more?"

Kiyoshi didn't mind sharing. It was certainly better than wasting food. That, he couldn't stand.
Evan Talkingwater 13 years ago
Evan wondered whether Kiyo's siblings were more open to seeing their brother again. He mused over it for a moment or two before deciding that it was -still- none of his business.

Nodding in answer to the man's question, he said. "Yes, werewolf blood makes a vampire violently ill. Making it counter-productive to ingest. I suppose it might even be deadly but I doubt any of my kind would keep drinking just to find out."

He raised his eyebrows and looked amused as Kiyoshi wavered over his offer of a place to stay.

"Think it over, no rush."

It was convenient for him and Navid as employers as well. They would know if something were wrong and someone needed to take Kiyo's place. There would never be a traffic problem unless Kiyo was out and about before work. In general he also found happy employee were better ones so if they could offer the young man some peace then it would help his health and well being.

Holding up his hands, Evan shook his head.

"No, Thank you. I am grateful for your offer and the taste I had. It was plenty."

In his best little old grandma voice, Evan said "But you... Eat! You're too thin! Skin and bones...tsk tsk." He patted Kiyo on the cheek and then leaned back with a smirk.
Kiyoshi Salinas 13 years ago
Kiyo considered this new information from Evan. He'd never known that werewolf blood was toxic to vampires. He knew very little about vampires, really. When, then, was there ever war between their races? Kiyoshi had always thought maybe vampires fed on werewolves. Ate their babies. Something terrible like that. He wanted to ask Evan if he knew the answer; surely Evan was sufficiently aged to know more details than Kiyo. But he held his tongue.

"I never knew that," he said instead. "I didn't think anything could hurt you. I mean, except for the sun."

He nodded at Evan.
"I will." He was sorely tempted to take Evan up on the offer but he really didn't know Guillaume so well yet. Or, really, Evan himself for that matter. And he didn't have a very good reason for leaving the Asylum. Did he need one? Would they be angry if he left? He didn't know.

When Evan declined further fish Kiyoshi pulled his plate back and nibbled at another piece, salmon this time, enjoying the creamy fattiness of it. His appetite was slowly returning as the conversation moved away from him and on to other topics. When Evan reached out and patted his cheek though, his voice turning creaky and aged-sounding, Kiyo stared for a moment before complying by stuffing another piece of fish in his mouth and swallowing, barely chewing, not sure if he was a little creeped out by the impression or intimidated that suddenly there was an 80 year old woman at the table with him.

Either way he figured it was safest to comply.
He finished his plate in record time, not worried about having pretty much inhaled it. His stomach was iron as far as raw meat was involved. Vegetables, now, those he might hack up. Disgusting. Not meat though.

"Thanks for stopping with me," he said to Evan as he gave a little sigh of full-belly contentment. Then he turned and contemplated a second plate. Maybe. He could eat more.
Evan Talkingwater 13 years ago
Evan smiled at Kiyo's thoughts on vampires. It was nice to be talking to a werewolf about such things so easily. There was usually a lot of distrust early on. Some vampires might not consider such relationships to be worth it. Of course, there were many vampires that believed real relationships with any creature not a vampire to be not worth the trouble. They die so quickly. Werewolves lived longer but at the same time caring for a human did bring with it the option of making another vampire if one truly felt strongly enough about them. Evan just supposed he liked things that were difficult.

"More than that can kill us. Explosions, beheadings...and the like. We're really very fragile."

He watched as Kiyo went for carefully eating his fish to wolfing, no pun intended, it down again after his little grandmotherly advice. "Woah, Kid, don't choke on it." Evan laughed softly and held up his hands in placating surrender.

Nodding to his companion, Evan pushed his chair back and stood. "Are you still hungry? We can get more if you like." He had very little concept of feeding a human, or another being who ate regular food, any more. Though Evan thought he could sort it out by remembering how many fish he would catch and eat when he had been human so long ago. Piecing together all the little slices of fish that Kiyo had eaten together as if it were one whole fish... It was not so much. It would work on a bad day at the river but Evan thought he'd have still been hungry. Of course he was half again Kiyo's size; how much did that matter again?
Kiyoshi Salinas 13 years ago
Kiyoshi wasn't sure about Evan's kind being 'fragile.' Maybe relative to, say, titanium, vampires were fragile. He didn't particularly want to test the theory though, as he thought so far he rather liked Evan in one piece.

He did take exception to being called "kid," however. In light of liking his employer/friend, he didn't think he wanted to be viewed as a child. Kiyoshi did, however, thoroughly chew his last bite of fish and swallow it like a normal human being. He could hardly censure Evan for the choice of word. He was a kid to someone who'd lived so long.

He was still hungry, yes, but Evan had stood which indicated he was ready to go and Kiyo didn't want to make him wait just so he could hang around and watch Kiyo eat.
"I'm fine," he said.

At any rate, they might find someplace else suitable for dining and Kiyo could sample his way around the waterfront. He wouldn't mind that, provided he was able to find enough meat. Uncooked. It wasn't easy to do. There had been plenty of times when he'd been forced to order a rare steak and cut off the outside in order to reach the cool, palatable inside.

Yeah, he was definitely still hungry. Just the thought of the buttery, rich texture of a filet mignon made him perk up. Later, though, when he and Evan were finished. He was well enough for now and he found Evan's company too enjoyable to cut it off for the sake of a meal.

Kiyoshi stood as well and they headed to the front of the restaurant where Kiyo paid for his food. When they were out on the walkway once more he turned to look up at Evan.
"Is there anyplace in particular you'd like to go?"

Evan had been kindly showing Kiyo around, walking and talking with him, it was only fair to ask what he'd like to do. Not to mention, of the two of them, Evan knew where things were. And, what things were there to see.

Evan gave Kiyoshi a long hard look before nodding. Unfortunately it was impossible for him to tell whether the man was still hungry and just being polite or telling the truth. He would just have to take Kiyo at his word; he knew that the werewolf wasn't going to starve at least.

Looking around the beach, he shrugged. He led them both back outside as he considered their options, both natural and unnatural, for entertainment. Kiyo had not indicated an interest in shopping and, while walking along the beach looking for shinies was interesting to him, his new friend might not find it nearly as appealing. They had already seen the shore and the fire spinners so something was in order.

Pointing in one direction Evan said. "Up that way there is an dockside arcade. It has go-carts, video games, fair style games" He made imaginary ring toss motions. "and even a small mini golf course if you interested." Pointing in the other direction he said. "A little further back the way we came there is a paddle boat rental." He smiled and tried to look innocent. At least Kiyo knew that he was not going to be a meal any time soon. He did not know too many werewolves that wanted to be out on the ocean with a vampire despite their lack of tastiness.

Evan said. "I can find entertainment in either activity; so do you have a preference?"

((OOC: This seems awful short. I don't know if its just because they are needing to decide what to do next or because its 7 am. O_o ))

Kiyoshi considered the choices before them, walking along with Evan back out toward the beach. He did not know what he really wanted to do. He just wanted to see the town. He would have been happy looking for shiny things some more; Evan's hobbies interested him and he was curious to see what would become of the little shell.

"Either sounds like fun," he said, although he hadn't intended Evan to feel the need to entertain him. "Something physical would be good."

That would be nice; Kiyoshi wasn't often idle. He preferred activity to inactivity. They veered toward the direction of the indicated paddle boats, and Kiyo struck up the conversation again.
"So... why Terminus? I mean I understand why but... why the theme?"

Evan had told him the purpose of Terminus when he'd first gone in to ask about a job, but what he wanted to know now was what had inspired the unusual theme
. "It's very creative," he added, hoping to elaborate on the fact that he was simply curious. He liked the bar a great deal and thought it was brilliantly planned and organized.

As they walked down past the beach they passed a crowd of people. Kiyoshi skirted around them, noting the marked-off lines in the sand, created by sturdy vinyl to encompass a box with a net spanning it halfway across. Ah. Someone was playing beach volleyball.

The last game had apparently ended and the winners were doing a victory lap. Kiyoshi watched them with interest. To his surprise, as one of the winning team jogged by he flipped the volleyball at Kiyo with a look of inquiry.

"Wanna be next?"

Kiyo caught the volleyball and glanced at Evan.
"Uh. Okay. What do you think?"

He wasn't opposed to playing. He liked sports, but he wasn't very competitive by nature. If Evan wanted to though, Kiyo would definitely give it a shot.

Evan smiled and said. "Well we have an airport so there are a few themes that we could do but I think this one has the most room for change. A 1940's style airport with everyone dressed up all glamorous would have been nice but, set in the past, there is not much way to transform it when it becomes tired and uninteresting to the public." He looked over at the new bartender. "However, the future is anyone's guess and what is sleek and modern today will be quaint looking in ten years but there will be something different to do."

They came across a group of people standing around a game court in the sand. It looked like the current match had just finished. He and Kiyo had wandered up just in time to appear to be new victims or volunteers or something because they tossed the ball to his friend and asked if they wanted to play.

Grinning, he watched Kiyo agree to play and then turn and ask him what he thought. It was somehow cute that the werewolf wanted to make everyone happy. Evan shrugged, pulling a hair tie from his pocket while walking to one side of the net.

"Big guy in back?" Evan glanced at his partner while he finished tying his hair into a low ponytail. It would be better braided but he didn't want to make everyone wait. This would keep it out of the way well enough.

He hoped the werewolf was a decent jumper. Evan figured he would only get in the way if he was up front but if it worked out better that way then he would certainly swap. It wasn't hard to keep net balls on their side of the court at his height; he didn't even need to jump.
