Three Was a Crowd (Attn: Alfarinn, Scott)

Aishe had picked up the habit of making rounds around the Towers, something she tried to do frequently when it was her shift. Her normal course took her past the Tower Lounge and she usually poked her head in. This time she was met with an odd sight; Alfarinn, nursing a glass of wine, sitting at an otherwise empty table that had two full plates of food on it.

She observed for a minute, thinking maybe his companions had just stepped away for a second, but no one seemed to be returning. So she entered the Lounge and walked up to the table. Why was her Elder all alone? Curious, Aishe slid into the empty fourth chair at the table in case the other chairs' occupants returned.

"Did you frighten your company away?" she asked with a mischievous smile flirting at her lips.

Leaning forward toward her Elder she kissed him on the cheek. She loved Alfarinn, in a strictly platonic 'best leader ever' kind of way. Perhaps it was because when she first arrived in Nachton he had been kind and gentle toward her even though she knew how dangerous he could be. It was also clear to her that both her fiance and her Creator loved him as a friend, and those emotions translated to Aishe.

About then a waiter appeared with some take-out boxes and began to scoop the food from in front of the vacant seats into them. Aishe raised her eyebrows at Alfarinn. The meal must have ended early for some reason.

Scott returned Aishe's smile, both brows raising slightly. "Really? Egyptology? Fascinating! One one of my closest friends at Corcoran in DC was an archaeologist, focusing in Egyptology as well," he said. He detected the faint trace of an accent from her, and part of him found that ironic. His accent was well-hidden, as well, but not on purpose. He absently wondered if she tried to hide hers on purpose, or if it had faded on its own, as well.

Scott noted the playfulness between Alfarinn and Aishe. Perhaps they were related in some way, or even closer. He didn't focus on such things, though. It was none of his business.

He nodded in appreciation when the Elder discussed the clan's willingness to look out for their own. Scott had heard that before, but hearing it come from the lips of an Elder seemed to carry far more weight. And the mention of protection for humans? He found that even more impressive, and not for a second did he doubt those words, coming from the Elder.

"Thank you for that reassurance, Sir. I would put Miya's safety above even my own, and am grateful that our clan holds our human friends in such high regard."

A brief feeling of... protectiveness and concern ebbed from Scott for a brief moment when he spoke of his Familiar-to-be, and then, once again, he was master of his emotions

"As for work, I love teaching of any kind, truly. I confess, the older the student, the more comfortable I feel, but I started out teaching to pre-teens in a one-classroom setting, so I'd not be adverse to teaching to a younger audience if that is what is available."

Was he really doing it? Considering moving to the town he had avoided for the better part of his existence? He loved Miya. He wanted her to be happy, and she loved her work and her life here, and he knew she hated DC.

Plus, Nachton would obviously be 'geared toward' the Vampire life. Things would be easier for him here, as well. But he knew there were also new dangers that came with living here as well.

Time would tell.

Aishe smiled innocently at Alfarinn's wink and joke about Kem. It was a totally fake look and faded quickly enough into the tiniest of smirks, giving a little nod of her head and mock-admitting to "running" her fiance.

She laughed softly at the idea of Cris bludgeoning her and conscripting her. Grinning at Alfarinn she shrugged.
"Okay, maybe fifty-fifty in that one."

Listening to John speak Aishe suppressed a little bit of surprise that he didn't seem to expect his familiar, or humans in general, to be so well-regarded in the Clan. She glanced at Alfarinn to gauge his reaction; she knew that Evenhet had been founded on the very basis of believing in living side by side and working together with humans. So why should John need reassurance? Maybe something had happened to him in the past that had led him to lose faith in Evenhet's goals... if so, she would gladly set him straight.

Aside from helping John find work, though, it would seem they had covered what he had come here for them to cover. Aishe put down her empty dessert glass and delicately cleaned her lips with her napkin, expecting that once the two men were finished, she would be asked to escort John to someone in records, to make his familiar official.

Alfarinn smiled at Aishe and then turned his attention back to John.

He nodded solemnly when they spoke of the clan's high regard for humanity. "I think most of our clan feels that way. I certainly hope they do anyway." He couldn't police the entire group but he hoped that those placed in charge in other cities would be equally vigilant. It was what set them apart from the others of their kind. It was, in Alfarinn's mind, their greatest strength.

The way that John felt for his soon-to-be familiar was as it should be, as far as he was concerned. If the person did not mean a great deal to the vampire then they didn't need to be made a familiar. "I'd worry if you would do anything different."

Considering what John said about teaching, Alfarinn nodded. "We can see what is available. If not history then perhaps the romantic literature. I am sure there is something out there that suits you."

Aishe had finished her dessert and it appeared that John had stated all the things he had come for. Alfarinn stood and reached out a hand to John. "It was a pleasure meeting you, Mr. Grey. If you leave a contact number with the front desk then we can get back to you if we find any jobs openings."

Turning to his favorite chocoholic, Alfarinn smiled. "Would you be willing to show him to Records?" They could catch up on more gossip about Cris and his new love later. In the meantime he had a tab to pick up.

((OOC: Alfarinn out to pay the tab after a handshake from John, assuming he returns it, and an affirmative answer from Aishe. ))

Scott listened closely to the Elder speak, always aware of Aishe's presence as well. The Elder had definitely come off as a much different person than he had expected. Sure, Scott had heard rumors about him, but he was glad to be able to dispel some of those by finally meeting him personally.

In regards to discussion about the clan and his soon-to-be Familiar, Scott replied, "I am glad that the regard held for humans is as high as our clan is known for. I didn't mean to insinuate that there was any doubt. In my... protectiveness of my partner, perhaps I let unfounded fears of our kind worry me too much. Please forgive me if I have given offense."

When the Elder mentioned his thoughts on finding work, Scott smiled and bowed his head slightly in appreciation. "I appreciate the kindness, Sir. I look forward to hearing more about it. I'll be busy for a short while moving... my Familiar's living arrangements are in desperate need of changing. I hope to surprise her with that news. I think she'd prefer a house over the tiny apartment she has now." Again, the emotion of love and adoration ebbed gently from him for a short moment.

When the Elder rose and offered his hand, Scott almost jumped out of his seat to meet it. He rose as well, and took the Elder's hand in a warm, friendly handshake. He couldn't help but bow slightly in respect to the Elder as well.

"I will definitely leave the number, thank you, again."

He then moved to follow Aishe, wherever she guided him, since he preferred not to get lost. After they depart the room, Aishe can sense the colors that she might associate with relief, surprise, and a little bit of awe.

((Scott out, unless either have any further questions))

Aishe smiled at the obvious affection in John's voice for his familiar. Such a thing wasn't uncommon in their Clan but it never grew old. It was lovely to hear.

She stood when it became apparent the audience was over.
"Of course I will," she said to Alfarinn, "and thank you." She nodded at her little dessert glass and beamed at him.

"It's just this way," she said to John. Leading him to he appropriate department she smiled at him and gestured him to the employee who would take his familiar's information, as well as his. The trip was not long.

"It was lovely to meet you," she said with another cheerful smile, leaving John in more capable hands than hers, for this purpose.

Humming tunelessly to herself Aishe headed off to continue her rounds, a soft smile on her face as she told Kem all about her conversation with Alfarinn and her meeting with their newly-arrived Clanmate.

((ooc: Aishe out too!))
