Sushi with a side of butterflies
Evalyn smiled and squeezed the hand in her's, little nose crinkling with her grin at the compliment. She shrugged and considered where they should go after they had eaten while they walked down into the station.
"We could go to the arcade." Evalyn looked a little sheepish at mentioning something that was very similar to the place they were just leaving. "I know Terminus has a lot of the same things but it doesn't have mini golf, or go carts or ski ball and such."
They reached the entrance to the subway; Terminus was lucky to have been the main airport at one time which meant that it had been a prime location for a subway stop. The street was renamed, appropriately enough, Old Airport Road. She swung their arms back and forth as she hopped down the stairs. "Or we could see a movie, or go dancing, or...go to the museum." Evalyn made a face that suggested that the last one was not really a first pick. "Any of those you like? Or something else? I am pretty flexible so long as you don't want me to sit through opera. I still haven't figured out why people pay a lot of money to listen to people sing in a language they don't understand."
"I'm just happy to be out with you." Evalyn looked at Kiyoshi seriously. "I know this isn't the best situation but we can still have fun. Its like a secret adventure of something." So long as it stayed a secret then they would be fine.
The train pulled up and the doors opened. Finding a couple of seats next to each other in the crowded car, she sat down, pulling Kiyo down with her. Evalyn then snuggled closer, leaning against the werewolf's shoulder with a happy smile.
"I love the subway. I wish more cities had them." She tilted her head towards the window and watched the people and billboards disappear as they pulled out, then there was nothing but brick and lights and the rhythmic sound of train on rails.
"I'm sorry," he said again, softly. Kiyo shook his head. "I wish she were still here. I would like to thank her." He sighed. How unusual, for a vampire to be killed in such a way. By her own people, thinking she was one of Kiyo's people. What irony.
He jumped and bit his tongue when Evalyn pinched him. Yelping, Kiyo clapped his hand over his mouth and laughed softly at himself. The pain was fleeting and inconsequential; he figured he'd just better learn to laugh at himself when Evan was around. It seemed like fate was out to get him where the vampire was concerned.
He shrugged sheepishly at her. "I don't know about common sense," Kiyo said. He didn't really think he'd demonstrated all that much of it since meeting Evan, but his date seemed determined to point out good things about him. Kiyoshi thought maybe he shouldn't argue the point too stridently.
He considered the possibilities Evan suggested. "I don't think I'd be good at business," he said doubtfully. "I could try it though. Especially if it might be helpful to you." He thought for a moment and then added, "and Guillaume." Truthfully, Evan was his boss mostly. Guillaume seemed to handle more of the behind-the-scenes affairs.
"I think any of them would be fun. I'd like to learn something new. Anything. Maybe even a writing class or something."
Nodding at Evalyn Kiyo rolled his eyes upward thoughtfully. "I like to read fiction a lot. Sci fi, and some fantasy. But I usually buy my books in Spanish. I haven't read anything in English since high school."
He couldn't help but smile at Evan's kindness. Even now, on their first real date together, Evan was willing to put the fun part aside and help Kiyo with what he wanted to do. Part of him was overwhelmed with gratitude for Evan's thoughtfulness while another part felt slightly guilty that Evan felt compelled to set their date aside to do what was really a research project.
"Maybe if you just show me where it is I could stop and get a card. I don't want to derail our date. You know? It'll be fun to check out the competition," he said, flashing Evan a little grin. "Besides, I was told there was skee ball."
They spoke more of the werewolf's intelligence. Evalyn was happy to see that Kiyo stopped arguing with one last doubtful remark. She took that as proof that he was at least smart enough to realize that he was wasting his breath arguing with her.
She shrugged at the talk of a business class. It did not seem to be anything that truly interested Kiyo and Evalyn would prefer that any classes they took to be something that they both wanted to learn. "I am sure it would be of use but its not necessary. You do plenty already and managers are much easier to find than flairtenders." Trained management people looking for work were a dime a dozen with more people getting quick degrees in the subject all the time. Not many people could do what Kiyo did and she would guess that fewer than a hundred bartenders who competed around the world were in an equal class with him. She would much rather Kiyo continue tending the bar for as long as he was willing. Someone else could keep the books, write schedules and sort out employees and tasks.
Setting the chopsticks down, Evalyn pushed her plate away and took up her glass of water. She took a long cleansing swallow of the cool drink and then set it back down with a satisfied 'ah'. "We could do a writing class. Telling stories is very important so it would be nice to be able to tell them well." Evalyn was better at speaking a story; she told them complete with gestures and voices for all the different characters. She was once a welcome sight at many a campfire and a favorite of many a child. "That sounds like fun. Let's do that."
Kiyo's taste in books were encouraging; they were some of her favorites as well. Evalyn smiled and said. "We can pick something up in English and work on reading it together. If we only read a little bit each night and read to each other then it won't seem like work. Don't you think?"
Her companion was sweet and she could tell that he didn't want to 'ruin' their date by going to the library. Evalyn thought that going through the many different books might have been fun but she did have to admit that it did not sound much like a date. 'Where did you go last friday night?' Oh, well me and my guy spent the night partying it up between the history and biography shelves. Nope, the arcade did sound more entertaining.
"I still want to go with you but we can do it later." She gave him a wicked smile and then added cheerfully. "The arcade sounds like fun, especially if you are eager to handle some balls." Evalyn slid a hand upward along Kiyo's thigh and squeezed suggestively. Later, alone where they could be themselves, Evan would happily let Kiyo play with some balls...and other things as well.
It seemed like a writing class agreed with them both. Kiyo smiled and nodded. "Okay. That will be fun," he said. And with Evan taking it with him, he could ask questions without worrying about looking stupid in front of the rest of the class. He still needed to get a book but this time maybe a dictionary would suffice. He was pretty sure his spelling might not be all it needed to be for such a class, but spelling he knew he could learn.
It seemed as though Evan was done eating for the time being; there was still plenty of fish left on the table. Kiyo didn't slow down. Instead, he sped up. Enthusiastically he made short work of most of the rest of the meat on the table, leaving only the garnishes and the wasabi.
"Oh," he said, perking up even more at Evan's next suggestion, "I like that idea."
He allowed himself a brief daydream as he chewed, of being snuggled under a pile of blankets wrapped in Evan's arms, reading a book out loud while being snuggled close. Kiyo closed his eyes and sighed again, happily, wriggling his toes in delight at the idea. With someone like Evan around, how could he ever have had any other fantasy? No one had ever made him feel so wanted.
Evalyn's hand slid up his leg and Kiyo opened his eyes, realizing his date had spoken again. He felt his face flush yet again but he didn't mind it so much this time. The innuendo might not have been exactly what he'd been thinking but things like that were never far from his mind with Evan around. Kiyo glanced down at the small hand in his lap, then reached out and quickly finished his beer.
"If you keep that up the arcade might have to wait too," he mumbled, then, in a slightly pained voice, "tease."
He turned big hazel eyes on Evan and tried to look as pathetic as possible. If his partner kept that up they might never leave the sushi restaurant because Kiyo would be ashamed to come out from hiding under the table. Even with that little problem in mind though, Kiyo set his own chopsticks down and slid close once more, laying his head back down on Evalyn's shoulder.
He felt so good with Evan. So contented. Warm, cherished. Kiyo could grow spoiled with Evan in his life. He tried to caution himself against it but caution was so easily thrown to the wind when everything he'd ever wanted was held up before him. He liked this feeling, this sensation of belonging. He wanted to be spoiled... even if it was just a little bit.
Of course books did smell nice. Maybe they could make a kindle that smelled like newly printed paper and have it also make little sound effects when you 'flipped' to another page. It could let you have funny bookmarks, a napkin,a pencil, a receipt from the coffee shop, and it could 'fall out' if you dropped the thing and make you hunt for your place again...because nothing says 'real' quite like inconvenience.
Evalyn pulled her hand away before she did anything too terrible to her date. They had another destination before going back home and it seemed cruel to physically arouse her partner without being able to do anything further though she would like to do plenty, right now.
She did laugh at being called a tease and then leaned over Kiyoshi's lap, placing her hand on the edge of the booth so that she could tilt her head and shoulders out enough to be seen. Evalyn caught the attention of the waitress and then waved her over. As the woman was headed in their direction, she settled back upright in her place and smiled. "Think of it as....promises for later. I do my best to keep all my promises."
Smiling up at the waitress, she asked for their check. Unlike Kiyo, she had a definite curfew and the punishment for being out past it was rather painful. They had plenty of time yet...but perhaps she also was a bit impatient for those 'promises' of later. When the woman walked off to get their bill, Evalyn smiled.
"Let's go play with some balls."
((OOC: I didn't want to assume on who was paying or not so I stopped it short. Feel free to take them out of this one and we can toss them into the arcade next. ))
When the bill came Kiyoshi picked it up with a smile. He'd ordered, and eaten, most of their dinner. It made sense to him that he be the one to pay for it. If Evan felt the need to reciprocate by footing their expenses at the arcade Kiyoshi wouldn't complain. It didn't really matter to him as long as they were both having a good time.
He laughed softly at his partner's continued joke. "You're on. I'll consider it practice. For later."
He left a tip and slid out from the booth, holding his hand out to his date. "Lead on. I'll follow you anywhere."
((ooc: out!))
