Josh's Penthouse
Josh's penthouse floorplan
See floor 21&22, plan X. 1987 square feet, corner penthouse, lots of windows.
Josh maintains a primary residence away from the Den, since it was absurd to try and keep up a pretense of having his own place. He may as well just... have one. He enjoyed the colors his Den apartment had, beige and sage green, but in the new one he has much more say and has elected to go with a little more modern color scheme, and one that suits him better.
He would have preferred to decorate with antiques, which he loves, but that's a dream he will have to fulfill one piece at a time and certainly not just after the expense of buying and furnishing this apartment. He is always on the lookout, however, for antiques that fit his tastes and has a handful of small items scattered about, things he's collected throughout years of travel. He has never had the opportunity to look for larger, more permanent pieces, so that's a future goal. For now he's decorated his apartment in a fairly modern style - sort of.
Living Room
Josh's living and dining room are spacious and the floorplan is pretty open. He's tried to keep it that way. The dining area is clearly only meant for a few people - four at most. The table is longer than it is wide and sits along the bank of windows overlooking the edge of the city and the ocean beyond. Therefore, one side is not meant to have a chair at it, although in a pinch it could probably fit two chairs on the other side and one at each end.
There is a sofa and recliner in light grey microfiber in the living room, accented with throw pillows in sage green. The end tables and coffee table are oak, and quite simple. The area rug is sage and grey as well, rectangular in shape. There's a flat screen television on a tv stand against the windows. In the corner, looking out toward the double sets of windows, is Josh's pride and joy, his Steinway piano, a baby grand made of African Pommele wood. Beside the piano against the wall is his collection of sheet music as well as a shelf dedicated to his own compositions.
Den
The den has been turned into a work area, with Josh's sewing table against the wall facing away from the windows. On the other wall, adjacent to the windows, is a desk that can easily be used as a cutting table with a mat on it. Again this room lacks many of the personal touches Josh would like to have but he at least has a dedicated sewing area now, which he likes.
Kitchen
Josh isn't an avid cook; he can get by and doesn't have to go out for meals but this is clearly not the room in which he has invested the majority of his passion. The counters are black and silver granite and the appliances are all stainless steel, which was standard for the apartment towers. Everything is clean, modern, and organized. The hand towels and dish cloths are cobalt blue, and the one or two items on the wall also have blue in them. Otherwise, this space has yet to be truly personalized.
Guest Bedroom and Bath
The guest bedroom is a work in progress. There's a full sized daybed in the corner beneath the windows but little else. The bed also has a handmade quilt on it, this one in gradient shades of blue fading from deep, almost black around the outside to nearly white at the very center. There's a makeshift chest of drawers along the wall near the door, a throwaway clearly only meant to be temporary. It contains extra linens in blue and white pinstripe in the top drawer. The remaining drawers house a variety of fabrics that didn't fit in Josh's sewing table storage. The bathroom is decorated in blue and white as well.
Master Bedroom and Bath
Josh's master bedroom is decorated in surprisingly dark colors. The bed and furniture are black cherry, and the area rug in front of the bed is braided black and purple. The sheets on the bed are a medium shade of purple and made of silk. The quilt is handmade and consists of a geometric design, log cabin in flavor, in blacks, greys, and the same purple as the sheets. The fabric of the quilt is all solid colors but with different textures to create a very subtle pattern. There are a few throw pillows on the bed that match the quilt.
Around the room are several wall hangings of various sizes that compliment the quilt and pillows, many of them including pieces of leftover fabric Josh used on the quilt. The dresser has a variety of little items on top of it, some obviously crafted by children, some with a little more sophistication.
The master bath is also accented in black, grey, and purple so as not to interrupt the flow of style and color from one room to the next. The artwork on the wall here is limited to one or to photos like this. There are a few accents in yellow-gold to bring out that bit of color in the pictures, such as one or two of the hand towels.
