Coming home for the first time
Edgard stepped out of the airport terminal and into the cool, dry night air of Nachton. He stepped down to the row of waiting cabs and picked one with a driver that didn't look like he talked too much. He climb into the backseat, and passed the driver a slip of paper that read "Liefde Towers - NO TALKING"Â? and a $50 bill, more than enough to cover the trip. The driver read the paper and gave Edgard a strange look, but left it at that and didn't ask any questions. The cab pulled away and Edgard tried to relax and clear his head, which was difficult considering the mild stench and ever-present filth that seemed to infest this cab, as well as nearly every other one Edgard had been in. Ignoring his unpleasant surroundings, Edgard leaned back and closed his eyes, trying to focus on what he was about to do.
He'd been searching for Megan for a long, long time. He'd been chasing rumors and dead-ends for most of the last century while trying to track her down, but at last one story had proved true. For too long, he had felt as if he had no place in the world, no purpose, and no home. He hoped that when he found Megan, she would be able to help him find his way again, as she had so many centuries ago.
Edgard's reverie was cut short as the cab arrived at its destination, right in front of the Liefde Towers. Edgard handed the cabbie another $20 for his ability to follow instructions and keep his mouth shut, and got out. The cab pulled away and Edgard was left staring up at the huge and magnificently designed highrise. He steeled his nerves one last time, and without any further delay, stepped through the front doors. They were unlocked and the building was still fully lit, even though it was now well past midnight - an obvious sign that this was, indeed, a vampire haven.
