Welcome to The Founder's Tree Square
Whereas the businesses of Nachton provide the city's pulse, the Founder's Tree Square, a city block devoted to the municipal side of Nachton, constitutes the wisdom that guides the city. Structures built in the neoclassical style are scattered amidst various hardwood trees, while an ancient oak stands vigilant in the heart of the man-made buildings of power. Situated in the center of the aptly named Founder's Tree Square, the tree spreads its wide branches thirty feet or more into the air. The trunk of the tree is easily 15 feet across. At its base a small, rusted plaque holds this simple, yet powerful message:
On this 8th day of September in the year 1707 the town of Nachton has been formed. Upon these fertile grounds a city shall be erected which will stand the tests of time. Its soul will be ever watchful and it will be sustained by the blood and sweat of those that live herein.
Oddly enough, the inscription is signed only 'The Founders.'
Buildings of note in the Founder's Tree Square include the Nachton Courthouse, where justice prevails, and the Nachton Convention Center, which dominates the east side of the square. Throughout the square one would find offices for various public officials as well as modest monuments and sculpture, with red brick pathways leading to points of interest as well as open grassy areas around the trees. No building or monument in this area, however, stands higher than the Founder's Oak, the result of a city decree that has since been retracted as technology improved and space demands increased.
