Wandering ((Open))

Once in her room, Wren unpacked a few things, and changed from the stupid little skirt and sweater, to a pair of thick wool socks, blue jeans, a nice wool sweater, and boots. She put on her coat and wound a scarf around her neck.

She tugged a purse from one suitcase and transfered everything from her pockets and backpack into it. Tucking the keycard into her pocket, she headed out onto The Strip

Drev shrugged and took a sip of coffee. "I don't know... New York and LA just don't... feel right to me, I guess. I've seen a lot of cities in my day, and Nachton felt the least uncomfortable," he explained with a chuckle.

"What do you do for a living, if you don't mind my asking?"
Wren 19 years ago
She smiled and drank from her glass, draining it.

"I don't mind. I'm a dancer."

Well that was mostly true. Maybe she could find a dance studio to teach at instead of stripping, but she was still a dancer either way.

"Oh really? What kind of dance?" he asked, leaning back in his chair and crossing one leg over the other. Now that she brought it up, he had noticed she moved with a grace and smoothness most often seen in dancers. He considered his Blade work more of a dance than anything. Maybe he had more in common with her....

She sighed now. She wasn't embarrassed by her profession far from it, but some people took it wrong and thought she was degrading herself taking of her clothes and swinging around on a pole for drunk men and their dollar bills.

"Well, now that depends on the time of day really."

She really wasn't trying to be evasive, but this little cat and mouse could be fun if he didn't think exotic dancers were a subhuman class.

'Stripper' was the first word that came to mind, but Drev pushed it away. Her statement puzzled him a bit... if she danced at a strip-club, that would only be at night... what kind of dance would she do during the day? Ballet? Tap? Something not 'exotic' anyway, so she must actually have skills. His eyebrows jumped, as if to say 'interesting,' then a grin crossed his lips.

"I bet you're a ballerina, aren't you?"

She wrinkled up her nose at him, and smiled.

"I just finished a four year degree in classical dance with a minor in theater production. Not a wholly useful degree, but the one I wanted. And at night I strip to pay the bills. Hopefully I'm not being monitored by the Exotic Dancer Nazis."

She chuckled and sucked a piece of ice out of her glass. 'We're not strippers were exotic dancers.' She had heard that so many times in the last few years that it made her sick. Just call a spade a spade and leave it alone.

Drev's eyebrows grew again. "I'm impressed," he said sincerely. "So many strippers don't know how to dance... A lot do, sure, but most of it's just club dancing that any moron can pick up. Then the others try to hide it by jiggling their tits in your face." He winked at her and took a sip of his coffee. "I can't even imagine what a stripper with a degree in dancing could do..."
Wren 19 years ago
"Oh I shake my tits with the best of them, but the pole is where my dance training comes in."

She wanted to jump up and hug him. He was going to joke with her about it. Not treat her like a piece of meat or give her the you poor girl treatment. It was...refreshing. She like this guy, for a supposed rock star he was pretty cool and it would be nice to have a friend in this very large, very new city.

Drev started to grin, but he supressed it, trying to force his face into a serious expression. "I'm... uh... having a pole installed in my place next... tuesday... coincidentally," he explained, nervously picking at a napkin. "But... unfortunately, I don't have anyone to use it...."

'Yeah, that's the ticket!' he wanted to add, but thought better of it. He cleared his throat and looked up at her startling familiar ice-blue eyes, trying to hold onto his serious face which was betrayed only by the mischievous sparkle in his own gaze.

Wren nearly choked on the piece of ice she'd been sucking on. She managed to spit it into her hand, and let the laughter bubble up and shake her body. Her laugh had a lovely bird like sound and she had always liked it. She tried to calm down to answer him, but just couldn't. Her laughter was garnering quite a few curious stares. so she concentrated on reeling it in.

When she could finally take a full breath and open her mouth with out laughing she swallowed, and tried to answer his obvious invitation.

"Ah, thanks, but I don't give private dances."

There nice and easy, with out telling him, no you bastard I'm not coming to your house with you. Though it seemed he really hadn't meant it that way.

"What if I bring some friends over?" Drev asked, letting the chuckle come out. "No, I'm just kidding.

"Did you come to town with a job already lined up, or was this more spur-of-the-moment than that?" He wondered if she'd take the question wrong... He would like to see her dance, but he hadn't meant to sound like he wanted her to tell him where she danced. Hell, he didn't even know where any strip clubs were in Nachton yet. They'd stopped at one when the band's tour came through town a several years ago, but Drev had no idea where it was, what it was called, or if it even still existed. And he hadn't been living here long enough to find them on his own....

"It was spur of the moment, literally." Her thoughts turned to the reason she had skipped town just twenty hours ago, and her eyes darkened with the bitter anger that rolled in her gut, a constant companion to the fear there. She knew she was safer here than back home, but she had to miss graduation because she just couldn't take it any longer. Not that Drev, singer in Starface....'AH HA!!! That's IT!!!' ...cared about her stalker issues.

"I'm hoping I can find a studio to teach at or if that fails a club to dance for."

"Have dinner with me tomorrow night," Drev blurted out suddenly. He didn't know where it came from, but he didn't regret that it had.

He hadn't forgotten about Serena, either. He was still looking forward to their date later... very soon, probably... but he had no idea what would come of it. He'd handle that as it unfolded. But he was here now, and he was doing what he wanted to at this moment.

"Then maybe I can show you my Blades," he added with a wink and a warm smile.

Jeeze that had come out of freaking no where and caught her off guard. She just sort of looked at him, like a mouse might that big giant creature tapping on it's cage. She Shook herself and took a deep breath. He just wanted to have dinner with her, not drag her into a back alley and rape her. 'Good Lord, Wren, pull yourself together, not everyone is fucking out to get you.'

"Um, yeah, sure. I'd like that."

'Oooh nice come back there, Birdie.' She berated herself with the nickname her brothers had given her, had for years, it seems like a good name for scolding with.
Milazo 19 years ago
"Good," Drev said, smiling and leaning back in his chair. "Did you bring any formal clothes with you when you came to Nachton?" he asked, his smile turning into a grin.
Wren 19 years ago
Her eyebrow shot into the hair hanging over her forehead. She brushed the stray lock of hair back and tried to come up with something witty for that, but she was at a complete loss.

"I've got something that will do the trick. Why?"

'Woo, way for sounding cool and collected!' She was beyond curious why he would ask that, she barely knew the man why would he take her some where that required black tie? Though now that he had asked, she'd be damned if she didn't go, just to kill the curiosity cat if nothing else.

"You'll just have to wait and find out," Drev said with a smirk. He wondered if any of those years of dance training included swing dancing.

Drev pulled a pen out of his pocket and tore off a corner of a napkin.
"Here," he said, and jotted his cell phone number down on the triangle, then handed it to Wren. Two girls in one day... not too bad, he commended himself. But of course, it had never been a game of any kind for him. He just enjoyed meeting new women. Was there anything wrong with that? "My phone is always on," he added with a smile.

Man, she hoped he didn't take her to some crappy play or something. She really did hate theater. She loved to go to ballets or opera, but plays bored the crap out of her. She took the napkin from him, and put it in her pocket.

"Thanks. I'd give you mine, but I don't have one yet. Circumstances forced me not to bring mine along."

She looked down at her watch, if she was going to job and house hunt, iron her dress and get some sleep she was going to have to get back to her room.

"So, what time should I be ready?"
Milazo 19 years ago
Drev nodded in understanding. So, she's running from something... someone, more likely. He'd only known her for... an hour or so...? but from what he'd learned of her so far, he couldn't imagine why anyone would want to hurt a girl like her. Oh wait, he could think of plenty types of people... She didn't seem to be deserving of it, though. He considered asking about these 'circumstances', but in his many years, he'd found that it's best to let the person bring it up on their own.

"About seven, I should think."
Wren 19 years ago
"Great! I'm staying at the Comfort Inn down the Strip here. It's the big yellowy building. I'll meet you in the lobby around seven tomorrow...or is it tonight?" She looked down at her watch again. Technically it would be tonight, if he meant tonight and not tomorrow in the literal sense.

She really didn't want to sound stupid again, so she was just going to let him fill in the blanks. She wondered what kind of shoes she would need to wear. Well the heels she had wouldn't do at all, she'd stop by a shoe store or something while she was out later.
