Dinner for One (Open)
'Dinner for One'
It was a little later into the evening when Rorri stepped out of the shower. With a yawn she dressed in a silver down with pearil earrings and a simple gold necklace. Her hair was worn long and on the way out she added a simple shaw to her shoulders, white in color.
A few moments later she entered the hotel's grand restaurant and took her pre-reserved table near the front. A waiter dropped off a menu and after a few moments of negotiating the order for the lobster special was complete. For drinks she ordered both champaign and water.
Luckily they didn't check her age, most likely they figured it was pointless considering how much money she was worth. She sat back to watch the theater show that was put on while the various high paying client ate their meals and enjoyed the experience.
TBC
"Tis too bad that these suites don't include pianos or we might be able to play together." Rorri smiled, even though she knew the offer was hollow, still, if the girl did manage to find a piano...
Ana briefly remembered the band teacher telling her she'd never amount to anything musically. The Girl Scout leader who'd told her she'd find a musical talent... obviously didn't mean picking up the tamborine and clashbanging along to campfire songs. But she'd been good at it!
"Well I guess that explains why ye chose to become a librarian then!" She giggled.
That's when she saw the waiters coming with their meals.
"Ah...finally some decent food, I hope ye lasses are well hungry and such!"
The arrival of food was a complete surprise to Fallon. Since she hadn't ordered, she guessed Rorri had done so, and she had missed it somehow.
When the plates were set in front of them, Fallon realized she wasn't the least bit hungry. Though she also decided she would at least have a few bites, for appearances sake.
She chuckled a bit, when Rorri called her a lass. It just seemed strange to hear a child calling her that.
"So Rorri...how is it an English company came to have a branch, or division, in Nachton?"
Fallon drained her glass of the last of the scotch, and held it up when she caught the waiter's eye. Another one would do her more good then the food in front of her. Briefly she wondered how long she would be able to go, before feeding again.
"No, we do not have a branch here, I'm here on family business to try and find a lost great uncle who's family split off from our own and came here in the late 17th century." Rorri replied.
She glanced over at Ana and then back at Fallon as she ate delicately.
"Fallon, yer a teacher, and Ana is a librarian, it just seems to me that both of ye could find credible employment together. For that matter, what are both yer plans for after dinner?" Rori asked.
"I have an errand to run later, but I've no plans for immediately after dinner."
She hoped she could hold off her need to feed, until just before sunrise. She doubted she could go more than a day, but was still testing the waters. Damn Panos for not being more explicit with his information.
"And the thought is dear, Rorri, but not many employers will take on employees in pairs."
The thought of seeking a job on her own was difficult enough...the thought of seeking one with Ana seemed...strange.
"I would, a librarian is a person with good information keeping skills that could easily be placed in many a positions with little advanced training and an experienced teacher like yerself would no doubt find life as a professor at some university tantalizing, though ye too would need to meet the qualifying exams for such a position, but I think both of ye ladies might find it challenging." Rorri explained then took a sip of tea.
She awaited their responces and reactions.
"Yes, I imagine our talents would serve several companies well. Unfortunately, knowing that doesn't make it so. As for the university, I did already inquire there. I am acredited, and can teach all levels, but they said they had nothing open for their spring term either."
Fallon almost giggled at a funny thought. She wondered if she showed up on Panos' doorstep, and told him he had to take care of her, what he would do. If nothing else, it gave her a little more sense that she would ultimately figure all this out, and be okay.
"I'm sorry, but you were offering us both jobs? I could have sworn you mentioned a university...but you said you were inheriting a different type of company."
'Jesus God' , Fallon thought...was she becoming stupid now? Was that a side effect of this...vampirism?
"I apologize again...I've...suffered some physical issues lately, and don't seem to be bouncing back to normal as quickly as I supposed I would."
Fallon now looked at her scotch, and wondered if she should finish it or not. She was terribly confused.
"Yes, to answer both yer questions, I was offering ye both jobs. I hadn't planned on doing such to anyone when I came in here tonight to eat, but as it seems to have turned out I've met two interesting people that my company and myself could possibly benefit from. Of course the benefits to yerselves would also be substantial.
"As for ye Fallon, I would require a suitably accredited instructor to handle my on-going education while I am away from the university, and Miss Ana here could use her skills to help me find any traces of my missing great uncle here in this city." Rorri explained.
"Does this propersition hold any interest to either of ye or do ye need some time to think it over?" Rorri asked in her heavy accented English voice.
"Does this propersition hold any interest to either of ye or do ye need some time to think it over?"
Fallon's eyes teared up a little. Not because she was thankful, or sentimental, but because she had almost choked on her soup. When she managed to just swallow it down, wrong pipe and all, she kept her response to the watery eyes. Another trick she had learned, after being beaten by Ted...to respond would only fuel the fire.
The problem now was...how did she turn down a job offer, and one that really sounded perfect, except for the fact that she could only work nights...or indoors during the day, and away from the sun.
Smiling at Rorri, she hoped Ana would speak up, and give Fallon time to think of a positive way to reject the young girl. In the mean time, Fallon gave Rorri a look that she hoped said she was thinking about it, as she fed herself more soup, to keep her mouth occupied.
Her mind kept drifting back to the hallway, nearly painted crimson... And everything she'd lost recently. "I just..." She wanted to tell -someone- other than the police... but dinner with two new people certainly wasn't the time for that. "Need time."
With that she quietly went about finishing her meal.
With that she quietly went about finishing her meal.
Now why Fallon even asked the question was weird. It showed an interest in the job. Though she did have an interest in the job, a HUGE one, the problems against it were probably insurmountable.
"I am sorry then, but my answer would be no thank you. It took an awful lot for me to move here from North Carolina...I...would rather stick around, and see if I can make Nachton my new home."
She smiled at the girl. Aside from not wanting to commit herself to a job that would't guarantee her night work, Fallon didn't want to get to far away from Panos. Her feelings for him were still very confused, but he was her only source of information, good or bad. She couldn't risk landing somewhere far away, and realizing there was a life or death question she needed an answer to. It was bad enough having the small distance that there was now between her and Panos .
"But I truly do appreciate you thinking of me, and wish you much success in your endeavors."
Fallon finished her soup, and now just sipped her water. The rest of her meal really didn't appeal to her.
