A Night on the Town ((Attn: Drev))

Wren arrived back in Nachton just before five and hopped right into the shower, washing the travel grime from her skin and hair. Finished with her shower she used the hotel blow drier to help style her long raven tresses into a swinging shine. She decided to leave her hair down as it would look dramatic against her pale skin and the red of her dress.

Her make up consisted of a pale foundation, a thin line of eye liner, a colorless shimmer on her eyelids, the same on her cheeks and lipstick that matched her fingernails exactly.

She studied herself in the full length mirror and smiled at the figure she made.

"Definitely going to turn a few heads in this tonight."

Laughing she packed up her little evening bag, with lipstick, ID, cash, mace and her hotel key. She flipped off the lights, grabbed her leather jacket and headed down to the lobby even though it was still a few minutes before seven.

Wren stepped off the elevator and went to the windows near the front of the lobby and stood staring out at the swirling snow as she waited for her date.

((ooc Something similar to what she is wearing is here Only her's is more of a true red, and is a smooth fabric, this is just the closest I could find.))

Not much in this world could make Drev blush anymore. He's seen too much, done to much to be caught off guard enough to blush.

But he was blushing now. Fiercely.

He recovered quickly though, and hopefully it could be passed off as exertion.

"Yes, that is what I meant," he explained when he pulled her back in from a spin. "I'm sorry if I offended you..."
Wren 18 years ago
"Apology accepted, but for the record, you didn't offend me." She chuckled softly as he moved their bodies in a slow turn, taking them a little further along the dance floor. She liked this guy, and hopefully he would become another friend for her in this strange new place. She needed friends.

"The way I see it, is Mr. Smooth got lost in the music too, and forgot to use his Casanova voice."

She laughed as he dipped her, then spun her under his arm.
Milazo 18 years ago
A broad grin was waiting for her when he pulled Wren back in. He held her close, this time, holding her eyes with his icy-blue eyes, their heads still while the rest of their bodies moved sinuously to the music.

"If he'd used his Cassanova voice, you would have been under his power, unable to resist his seductive charms." He kept the smile on his lips, allowing her to take it as a joke if she wished. But it was more a test to see where she stood; he wasn't trying to seduce her into sleeping with him, but if there wasn't some measure of physical attraction, it could get rather uncomfortable, especially in such close proximity on the dance floor.
Wren 18 years ago
"Well then let's hope he keeps his Casanova voice all tucked away with his big boy pants." She spun and twirled under his command and moved back into his body, their feet doing a quick cha-cha with the music.

"Because if I'm going to be under anyones seductive charms, it won't be Mr. Smooth's."

'Oh my fucking God, where the hell did that come from. Well shit.' Wren's cheeks flushed again. That was not what she had meant to say, it really really wasn't. 'Well, Wren, what now?'
Milazo 18 years ago
That was kind of an odd thing to say.... But Drev smiled and chuckled as the song came to a close.

Drev was perfectly fine with leaving things where they were. Wren was a cool chick, and probably fun to get drunk with.

Speaking of drinks...

"Mind if we take a break? I could use something to drink."
Wren 18 years ago
"I was just going to ask the same thing."

She clapped for the band and slid her fingers around Drev's offered arm. They returned to their table and Wren declined the proffered wine. She would stick to water for the rest of the evening, or one of those sweet turns, would land her on her butt. One could not be graceful if one was drunk. She was happy to leave the whole Mr. Smooth thing behind.

The waiter came and offered to bring them dessert, Wren declined that as well, sweets made for a mess on the dance floor. Well in her experience, they made for a very big mess all down her partner's front.

She sipped from her water and decided that she could ask Drev a slightly more personal question.

"Do you miss the band? I'm only asking, because I'm curious. You guys were a great band, and from what I here gave a great show."
Milazo 18 years ago
Drev ordered a Bailey's on the Rocks and a fresh glass of water. He'd forgotten how exerting dancing was; his legs were tired and sluggish now that he was off them. Hopefully they'd be ready to go soon, because Wren still had that 'I want to dance till the sun comes up' look in her eyes.

"Thank you. I do miss it, and I don't," Drev said, thankful to leave the Mr. Smooth discussion behind. "It's a rush, being up on stage. I never would have thought I could enjoy it, but every night was like the first time, seeing all those faces in the crowd." A smile began to grow on his lips as he recalled the pleasant memories. "And singing like that... it can be so cathartic. It's great to be able to just let loose and scream. You just can't get that kind of release from anything else.

"But on the other hand," he went on after taking a sip of his Bailey's, "it got old pretty fast. Not the playing, but just the touring. Spending every night on a bus or plane, travelling all the time. And dealing with managers, promotors, record company suits... Shit, don't get me started." Drev dismissed it with a laugh and took another sip of his drink.

"I'm sorry if I'm rambling...."
Wren 18 years ago
"Don't be. It's fascinating." She drank from her water, and a waiter appeared out of no where to refill it for her.

"Thank you. I've always been curious about the tour life. A Ballet company out of Boston tours and I was invited to audition for them, but my mom was convinced I'd get killed on a tour bus or something so I didn't get to. So, I remain curious."

She drank from her water again. She and her mother had yelled at each other for days about that audition, but in the end sixteen year old Wren lost. She seemed to do a lot of losing in her life. She sighed softly and tried to come up with another question but her curiosity had waned for the moment.

"It's pretty bipolar, really. Yeah, you get to meet some of your heros, hell even play with them. But also there's a lot of downtime, months between a nice home-cooked meal, cabin fever, getting very sick of being around the same people all the time...

"It's a love-hate relationship, pretty much. Luckilly I had Blades I could practice to help take my mind off the stress of touring, writing music, practicing music, and defusing inter-personality bombs."

Taking another sip of his Bailey's Drev noticed Enzo on the other side of the dance floor. The owner was speaking with a taller man and when he caught Drev's eye, waved him over.

Curious, Drev set his glass down on the table and smiled apologetically to Wren.

"Would you excuse me for a moment, please?"
Wren 18 years ago
"Sure." Wren smiled at him and made a shooing motion. She wouldn't mind sitting out for a little while longer. It would give her a moment to watch the dance instead of be a part of it. When the waiter stopped to fill her half empty water glass she asked for a cup of coffee, and sat back in her chair to watch the crowd.
Milazo 18 years ago
((seen from their table: Drev walks casually across the restaurant to where Enzo and the taller man are talking. The taller man is facing away from their table, so his face is not visible. When Drev approaches them, Enzo shakes his hand and introduces him to the other man. Drev shakes his hand. Using his hands as much as his mouth, Enzo seems to be doing most of the talking, gesturing back and forth between the two. Drev begins to nod, slowly at first, then with more confidence. Enzo actually appears to be smiling. The three men shake hands again and Drev dismisses himself from the discussion. Enzo and the taller man resume their conversation while Drev makes his way back to the table.))

"Sorry about that," he said as he sat back down. "Where were we?"

Wren set down the delicate china her coffee had come in and smiled at Drev.

"You were going to ask me to dance, because I love this song."

The band had started up "The way you look tonight." It was slow, but just lively enough to ease them back onto the floor. Her toe taped as the conductor began to sing. "Some day, when I'm awfully low, When the world is cold."
Milazo 18 years ago
"So I was," he said with grin and practically bounced back out of his chair. Drev swept her off to the dance floor, and let the music take them away again, let his body move as the music dictated.

"I feel like I could dance all night, with a partner like you," Drev said with a broad smile.
Wren 18 years ago
"Thank you." Was the only way Wren could think to reply to that. It had to be the best compliment any one had ever given her and she decided to tell him so.

"I don't think any one has ever paid me a better compliment, thank you, Drev."

The band moved from "The way you look tonight" into a tango. Tango could turn violent if the dancers forgot themselves, but Drev kept their movement smooth and sensual. When released from his, Wren walked around behind him, and standing on tip toe, put one knee even with his waist and wrapped her arms around his shoulders.

He took her hand and spun her around him, letting her fall from him catching her with her head inches from the floor, pulling her up and continuing around the floor.

As they danced, Wren felt her face flush and her breath speed, but she wasn't entirely sure it was just the dance and she wasn't entirely certain she minded.
Milazo 18 years ago
"You're most welcome," Drev said with a warm smile just as the song changed to a spicey tango. 'You're really giving me a workout,' Drev said silently. It had been decades since he last danced a tango, but apparently his feet had a better memory than he.

When Wren moved around him, raised her knee, and wrapped her arms around him, he felt his hearbeat quicken. He snapped her around and caught her dip before she could crack her head on the floor - all the more impressive.

Wren's cheeks seemed a little bit more rosey than they had been... and what was that look in her eye.....

"Oh, you're just imagining things. It's just the dance. Tango is notorious for that..."

Drev pushed it all from his mind and just let the music take him again.

The tango flowed into a waltz, and then into a slow, seductive bit of jazz. They moved from the sweet sexy, almost Dirty Dancing steps, into the Jitter Bug, the fox trot and a samba. They moved over the dance floor for over an hour, seemingly tireless, when the band called it's final song, Moonlight Serenade.

Wren and Drev joined the thunderous applause, before leaving the dance floor. Over the noise, Drev leaned close and asked if she was ready to go. She felt like this would be the perfect place to end their date. She nodded her acquiescence, and took up her purse from the table.

He lead her through the crowd with his hand on the small of her back. Normally Wren would have stepped away from such an intimate contact, but she just didn't get the creepy vibe from the touch. Now that they were off the floor, Wren could not let what her body was feeling, cloud her mind. Drev was an amazing dancer and great conversationalist, but she just didn't see this going anywhere. What she would love is to keep him as a friend and wondered how he would feel about it.

Drev helped her on with her coat while the limo driver was being paged. They stepped out into the lightly falling snow, and slipped into the limo.

"My legs feel like rubber."

She laughed and tugged at her skirt until it was comfortable.

Drev chuckled as he brushed the few flakes of snow off the shoulders of his jacket and removed his fedora to do the same.

"I haven't danced like that in years," he said. That made him sound so old. Granted, he was over 700 years old, but Wren didn't know that. As far as she knew, Drev had yet to see his thirtieth birthday.

"Thank you for a splendid evening, Wren," he added more seriously, even managing a graceful bow from where he sat. "Would you like me to have the driver drop you off, or can I talk you into having a couple drinks, now that we no longer need to be so graceful on our feet?" Drev's smile was bright, mirroring his surprisingly un-lecherous thoughts.
Wren 18 years ago
"I had a really great time. Thank you for inviting me."

She smiled at him. Wondering what he would think if she invited him to her room. She really wanted to get out of her shoes and her nipple covers were starting to itch just a tiny bit. Whoever said women don't sweat had never danced for two hours wearing nipple covers.

She contemplated for only a moment before nodding.

"I think I'd like to go back to my hotel, but I hate for the evening to end. I have some great wine, would you like to come up and enjoy a glass or two with me?"

They could talk in the relative quiet of her room and get to know each other better. She had just discovered that it may very well be possible for a woman to have a relationship with a man, that was neither romantic or sexual. That she could in fact have a male friend. It was an interesting concept to say the least.
Milazo 18 years ago
"I would," Drev said with a smile that he hoped didn't look forced. To say he was surprised by her offer would be an understatement.

All night, she'd been giving off "Just wanna be friends" vibes. But now, she wanted him to come up to her hotel room and have wine? Sure, it's possible that she still wanted a platonic friendship with him, and that'd be fine. He had nothing against that. But she could at least be more clear with her intentions.

He thought about telling her to just let him know if she wanted something more, otherwise, he'd just continue to take it innocently. Actually, that's not a bad idea. With a decisive mental nod, Drev decided to do just that: he would continue to be the ever-polite, ever-chaste friend, and if she decided to take it to another level, it would be completely up to her.

Drev picked up a small phone and spoke softly into it, informing the driver of their destination. He hung up the phone and turned back to Wren. A comment about her wanting to get him drunk came to his lips, but Drev wisely held it back.
"As long as I can sit down," he added with a grin.
Meegan 18 years ago
"As long as you don't mind hotel chairs, then you can." She laughed softly. 'I really need to tell him how I feel. But it's a bit deep for first dates.' Then again if he was to be her friend, she was going to have to be forward with him.

"Look, um, this is going to sound really odd, especially after the evening we've just had, but um..." She took a deep breath and turned to face him her knee brushing against his. It neither shocked or bothered her and she thought that maybe that was a good sign.

"Well, I really want to be your friend. I have had such a great time with you, and we really seemed to connect both tonight and at the coffee shop. I just want you to know up front that it's friendship I want, it will be all I ever want."

Her face held hope and just a touch of sorrow. She wanted this, badly and until just this moment hadn't known how badly she had needed a friend.

"Please, say you'll still come have a glass of wine with me."
