The After Party (Event Continued...)
Rupert directed the rest of the staff around the lower patio, arranging various vintages and glasses on crisp white table clothes with red trim. He had brought out what his son would likely call 'the good stuff' and his oh so charming ex wife would call the 'ninety dollar ass kissing', this being a special occasion, and idly examined a slightly tinted glass for spots while the patio was set.
The ceremony should be over soon and the Anantya would begin filtering in, barring any misfortunes, the nature of which Rupert did not care to contemplate. He wondered vaguely just how rowdy of a crowd they were going to have, especially considering certain new arrivals, and mentally planned ways of getting the fine glassware rotated out and the newer, less valuable glasses in their stead as the group's intoxication increased.
With such small arrangements floating through the back of his mind, he looked to the Cathedral, watching expectantly for people to begin making their way up the hill.
Well, yes an no. Mostly depends on th'person. We had some pretty hardcore traditionalists, but also some very...hm...mellow, loose folks. I guess that can be like anywheres, though.
Catching movement behind Cyrus, Dawn looked to see the new girl coming up behind him. Starting to say something, she stopped, and changed it into a stretch and a heavy sigh when she saw the universal sign to shut the fuck up.
Whoo. Good workout tonight, but all that underground air musta stiffened me up...yeah. Well, that means it is time for some drinky. It was good meetin' ya!
Timing the extension of her hand with the new girl's final approach, Dawn sought to learn something about the huntsman - vigilance, even in a safe area, or responsiveness to the strictures of etiquette?
Fallon's hand on his back and soft comment had him spinning around and grabbing her up in his arms. Smiling happily at her he spun her around in a circle several times before letting her slide down his body to the ground. Planting one hard kiss on her lips quickly he leaned back to grin at her.
"Welcome home Kitten."
Logically, Cyrus knew that he should introduce her around the patio to the various clanmembers there. But as he smiled into her beautiful brown eyes he realized that he only wanted to hold her, not play all those social niceties. Leaning in for a hug he kissed behind her ear gently before releasing her fully. Stepping back he spotted Dawn and introduced the two.
"Dawn, this is Fallon. Fallon, this is a clanmate from California, Dawn."
She squealed, totally taken by surprise at his reaction, and loving it. Still laughing once he stopped spinning her around, Fallon kissed him back and couldn't have hoped for a better welcome. This spontaneous show of excitement and affection from Cyrus almost made her want to redo the entire experience in the tunnels. Almost.
When smiled at her, and she knew he now felt comfortable enough with her to share his feelings outside their private lair, Fallon was speechless. Though she had known for some time that he loved her, there was just something more tangible, more real when a man was able to let himself show the world his feelings.
Yet even with this knowledge, Fallon too was content to be with just him, and made no move to seek the eyes of anyone else. It would be necessary, she knew, to meet those attending the party. They were there because of her, after all, but there was no rush.
Even as she thought those thoughts, and was enjoying the feel of his arms, and lips, Cyrus was moving away from her, and introducing Fallon to...
"Hello Dawn. I'm VERY happy to meet you."
Fallon held out her hand to the girl and noticed she appeared quite young. However, knowing age meant very little in this new world of hers, Fallon gave it no further thought.
"I, too, am originally from the west coast, but farther north...Oregon."
And knowing those two states, though close in proximity, could still be worlds apart, Fallon drew no further connections.
Taking the extended hand, Dawn stepped into the handshake, pressing it to her body and hugged quickly around Fallon's neck, disconnecting almost as quickly as she'd started. Smiling broadly, she stepped back so as to not intrude on any more necessary cuddle-time of the pair, and replied
I've ne'er beenta Oregon but I hear its real nice - green everywhere, lotsa water, lotsa rain. Sounds cool. I dun wanna intrude on yer cuddletime an' monopolize th'intros, tho - stop by anytime ya want - I live by th' pool or we kin chat after - lates!
Waiting for an indicator of whether to leave the lovebirds or assist in introductions, Dawn looked for a free body to chat with after should that be the direction things were going...
((Fallon hugged with permission))
Not wanting to shatter Dawn's illusions about Oregon, Fallon didn't go into the fact that central and eastern Oregon were just as brown and hot as warmer parts of California were in the summer. Chances were the girl would probably never have the opportunity to see that for herself anyway.
Giggling softly and smiling at Cyrus, Fallon hoped her face wasn't as red as it felt when she listened to Dawn mention 'cuddletime'.
"You're not intruding, but I would love to talk to you again sometime. Maybe I can join you for a swim some night?"
Fallon would have loved nothing more than curling up alongside Cyrus then, and talking to Dawn at length, but she did also want to meet more of the Anantya. Who knew when she would get an opportunity like this again. Taking Cyrus' hand, she gave it a squeeze, hoping he wouldn't mind their mingling a little.
Grinning at Cyrus for a second, she looked back to Fallon and winked.
An' iffit's eezy, takit twice!
Looking around, she spied activity elsewhere nearby...bouncing away, she looked for further entertainment.
((Dawn out))
Inside, she flung off the heavy black ceremonial garb to land haphazardly on the sofa and rushed through her bedroom to her large closet. The plain black dress she had worn was serviceable under a cloak or robe but not how she wanted to be seen at a social gathering.
Louis had been awoken from napping on the bed when Amberelle moved past and rose with a twitchy stretch before leisurely following his mistress. Bumping against her shins he twined around and through her legs as he rubbed against her in greeting. He buzzed with questions, distracting her from the comfy clothes or something dressy debate she'd been having with herself. Chuckling softly, she scooped up the large black tom and gave him a tight hug before settling him in the crook of her elbow.
No, I don't know if she has any pets. And I certainly don't know if she likes cats. As for you coming to the party... I don't know, can you behave yourself? He looked up at her with large, pleading eyes. Oh... Ooooo-K! Now let Mommy get changed. Louis hopped down onto the counter and began to clean his paws. Amberelle just giggled at him. "Like he needs to look good for his first impressions, how cute.."Â?
Deciding to go comfortable Amby grabbed up a pair of dark indigo skinny pants. She wiggled into them and studied her closet a moment before grabbing a cute white ruffled blouse. She finished the outfit off with a comfortable pair of dark brown leather slides. The heels would be easy to get out of if they started to bother her. Taking a minute to unbraid her hair she shook it out and was pleased with the waves that had been created. A couple of spritzes of her favorite perfume La Chasse Aux Papillons and she was walking out, Louis hurrying to keep up.
As she made her way onto the patio she saw Cyrus pacing in a very feline manner. She smiled at him sypatheticly. He was naturally fretting over his childe. She'd leave him in peace until her new sister joined them and his mood would, she was cetain, be improved. A new sister... the thought made her smile. Hopefully she would be nothing like the overbearing, loud and aggressive one that Amberelle had grown up with. At least the young Creole hoped as much. To be fair, she considered her sister Ammorette to be a good person.. just far too confrontational for comfort. Probable since she'd taken out all of her frustrations from their grandfather on her baby sister.
Such thoughts put her in the mood for a drink, a stiff one. She went to find the bar and didn't notice Louis wandering off to explore and meet the rest of the partygoers. At the bar she got a glass of white wine and stood off to the side. From here she began to study the people who were assembling. Quite an eclectic bunch she reasoned. Seeing Dawn striking up a conversation with Cyrus had her briefly thinking of rescuing him, but she decided the young woman from Cali might just be a welcome distraction for the Huntsman.
An eyebrow rose as she saw Fallon trying to sneak up on Cyrus. It was all she could do not to giggle. His reaction was as she'd expected. If anyone got the drop on that man she'd be suprised, even if he had been talking to Dawn and therefore probably in a state of confusion. Their kisses and hugs were a bit of a surpise, and made her even more curious about the newest Anantya.
Walking over, she came around behind Dawn and smiled at Cyrus. She didn't know if he'd notice her right away, he seemed quite into his woman. But she didn't mind waiting a few second for those two to enjoy their reunion. Once he looked her way, she grinned at them.
Well, Cyrus.. please introduce me to my newest soeur! And how about a hug for me?
((OOC feel free to have Louis wander by and sniff or check you out if you like, just please be kind to the boy!))
At her greeting he bowed deeply. "Amberelle, good to see you. Let me introduce Fallon Tierney."
Turning his head slightly to smile at Fallon he continued. "Fallon, this is Amberelle DeEspionne, from our New Orleans branch of the clan who also happens to exhibit some feline attributes now and then."
Watching Louis investigate the table laden with drinks out of the corner of his eye was amusing. He hoped the small fellow stayed out of trouble. Nodding his head in the general direction of the cat. "I see Louis is feeling quite brave tonight."
As Dawn left, Fallon noticed a very pretty blonde woman approach, and did hug her after she commented.
"It is very nice to meet you Amberelle."
The feline comment gave Fallon only slight pause, before she smiled and looked beyond to the actual cat.
"Oh...is he yours?" She questioned, and smiled, now curious to know if he was a cat, or another Anantya clan mate. She refrained from asking outright, for fear of appearing exceedingly stupid. Instead she would either find out through Amberelle now, or ask Cyrus about it later.
"Are you visiting, or have you moved to Nachton from N'Orleans?" Though that hadn't occurred to her either, she now assumed anyone from a different branch of the clan could come and go at will, and participate in whatever activities happened to be going on at the time of their visit.
Whether it was Amberelle's quiet elegance, or just Fallon's old insecurities flaring up, she moved her hand from Cyrus' and wrapped it around his waist instead. Not jealous by any means, Fallon just needed a bit more contact from her man at the moment. She hoped he didn't mind.
Chuckling at Cyrus' feline comment it wasn't until Fallon asked if "he" was hers that she glanced down and realized her little chatte had managed to wander away. Following the couple's gaze she pursed her lips and glared at Louis a moment, annoyed.
'Louis! What are you doing there?' The black cat jumped straight up, startled at her sudden words. Spinning to look at her, contrite, he hopped down and began to scurry over.
Glancing back at her clanmates she sighed. Oui, that's my little bundle of trouble. He promised to be good if I let him come, I suppose I should know better.
Umm.. I moved to Nachton just under a year ago. Fortuitous timing for me with the storms and such that happened, I suppose. Louis reached the group then and stayed behind his mistress' legs, peering up at Fallon curiously. He sniffed the air and watched her.
So what do you think of your new family, Fallon?
"Yes, the hurricanes were devastating. I can't begin to imagine how horrible it was for those who were unable to leave. You were indeed lucky."
Seeing the cat looking up at her, Fallon squatted down and held out her hand, hoping he would catch her scent and not dash off. She looked up at Amberelle as she answered.
"So far I've only met a small handful, but you have all been very kind, and accepting of me, as a stranger, and a newcomer. I feel as if I'm already very much a part of Anantya, and that I couldn't have chosen a better family, had I made the choice myself."
Standing back up, she put her arm around Cyrus again, and gave him a small hug.
"I have this man to thank for it all. I really never did doubt him or his offer to bring me into the clan. He is a wise one, and I was felicitous when I met him."
With that comment, her face beamed, and she glanced at her lover sideways, again hoping he wouldn't take exception with her casual words about the two of them.
"If I may ask, what is it you do, Amberelle?"
Learning about her family meant more than just learning their names.
'Woman smells like cat-man.' he commented to Amberelle. The blonde mentally chuckled. 'That's because it would seem they are mates, mon petite.' When Fallon stood, Louis moved closer to continue sniffing her, but on the side away from Cyrus. He was still very much unnerved by the huge feline form that human could take.
It is wonderful that you have such a good mentor.. it will make your transition much easier. 'Don't be envious of someone's good fortune,' she told herself when she wanted to sigh. After all if most people came into their change with happiness it wasn't their fault that she herself had not. Fallon positively radiated happiness and affection for the Mongol, making Amby grin at him.
For some reason I have the feeling he is the lucky one.. She winked at Cyrus. He'd always been nice to her and she was pleased to see he'd found someone who adored him.
At Fallon's question she took another sip of wine and started to speak but paused. They had just been discussing family so perhaps the woman was curious about clan roles, traits and abilities. Or she could simply be trying to get to know her and mean something more mundane.
I'm not sure what you want to know.. I'm in the 'undecided' catagory as far as an Order goes. I was.. required.. by my Sire to serve the night in N'awlins so I've been enjoying the chance to just take my time picking my place here. And as for as employment... well, I'm something of a freelance.. umm.. aquisitions specialist. She gave a cheeky grin. A fancy term for cat burglar. Amby waited to see if Cyrus would comment on the double meaning of that comment.
At Amberelle's mention of his luck at being close to Fallon he found a smile and deep bowing nod to be his automatic acknowledgement of the fact. His arm may have been resting somewhat inpersonally on Fallon's back prior but it had grown to be a stroking caress that pleased him no end. Since they were facing the manor he was sure none would note his display of affection. He did not wish to embarass his kitten with smothering her on her first day in the clan.
When she had first put her arm around him, he had wondered if it had been some female claim she was staking to Amberelle, but her friendly attitude confused him. Deciding that she could stake her claim on him with his blessing he did not give the matter a second thought and instead enjoyed the slight hug and the feel of her skin against him.
Amberelle described what she 'did' to his kitten quite well. He was pleased that he had not picked up a drink or else he may have choked upon the wine at her final comment. As it was he arched a brow and chuckled.
"Thats a very literal translation but a good line of work for you." Recalling her accomplishments in the marina he was sure that violence was no stranger around his clanswoman. She had been very professional that eve and he had been very proud to have witnessed her talents.
She also appreciated Amberelle's comment on how Fallon effected Cyrus. She blushed, but she did so with pride, knowing other's could see the connection between the two of them, and felt Fallon was good for Cyrus.
At the mention of the 'Orders', Fallon's brows drew together in concentration.
"I've not yet been chosen for an Order either. I will defer to the clan elders, to place me where they believe I will be of best use, of course. There is only one Order I, personally, would feel out of place in, and that would be the Order of the Hunt. I understand the need for the Order, but don't think I would do very well there."
Fallon had experienced enough violence in her life so far, and wanted as little to do with that, as possible.
"I've been a teacher for a few years, and think that might aid the Order of the Night..." Yet her meeting with Sorin had not gone as well as her meeting with Morrigan, so Fallon had no clue if he would even want her in his order.
"Then too, many of the same skills could also serve the Order of the Rose as well. I might imagine I will need to talk to both Morrigan, and Sorin at further length, before a decision is made."
It was funny to Fallon, because though she didn't feel suited for the Order of the Hunt, she had felt a stronger affection for Mai, than the other two elders. Hopefully in time she would get to know them all better, and any reservations she now had would be dispelled.
The issue of Amberelle's career seemed to foster some inside joke between the friendly blonde and Cyrus, but Fallon didn't mind in the least. It was expected that because Cyrus had been a member of the clan for eons, he would have history with most, if not all of the family. In fact, knowing he had relationships with these people made Fallon feel good. That he was liked and respected by others meant he would be treated well by them. His happiness had quickly become one of her main focuses in life now.
Yet hearing that Amberelle was a 'cat burglar' couldn't go unnoticed.
"I'm sorry...did you say you were a cat burglar?"
Amby giggled at Fallon's question. It wasn't an unexpected reaction, but it was still cute. She nodded and sipped her wine, debating how to explain it without revealing too about her former problems. Well, oui.. a burglar. I suppose they don't use the term cat burglar much today? Too bad, sounds much classier than breaking and entering.. Anyways.. It was more of a side job I thought up, to save money so I could be able to move away. My sire wasn't umm.. she thought a moment. He wasn't supportive of the move you could say. Now that's an understatement, she thought.
And it was fun, let me use the skills I'd been trained with for less lethal things. She shrugged. It's not hard.. did you get any of Cyrus' more.. feline.. traits from him...? If so I could show you. Louis meowed up at the blonde petulantly, making Amberelle chuckle. Louis could help too, he's very good at distractions. And recon.
"Yes, I can relate to the need to get away. I came from a situation I had to covertly leave behind myself. It was with Cyrus' help though, that I managed to make the transition as easily as I did."
The question of 'Cyrus' traits' threw Fallon a little, and she wondered if Amberelle thought he had 'sired' Fallon. But something else that made Fallon think harder, was the issue of feline traits itself.
Lately Fallon had gone through a lot of changes, not only in her personal, and professional life, but physically as well. Even beyond the obvious vampire changes, she had noticed other odd things happening to her. She hadn't said anything to Cyrus yet, because she still wasn't completely sure if the changes were real, or imagined.
Therefore, she was in no position to come forward to Amberelle.
"Cyrus was not responsible for changing me. Well though that's not true either. He was responsible for teaching me about the changes I was going through, and bringing me to Anantya, but the man who turned me was another."
Though she and Cyrus no longer talked of killing Panos, and even joked about it some, it was still not a subject Fallon felt easy in discussing with others.
"So, if I am to inherit from another, I fear he would be the one."
And that brought up the question...was Panos a shifter as well? If she were now exhibiting shifting traits, would they have come from him? It was a confusing matter that she knew she would need to investigate further.
"What type of cat do you change into?"
If it turned out Fallon was also gaining shifting abilities, Amberelle might be a good source of more information. And what would it hurt to find out as much as she was willing to offer now?
It was difficult to make something for someone you did not know and it was impossible to know the décor of a person who likely had not even fully moved into the manor. She could have tried to press the Butler or one of the maids for answers to that question but there was little reason to put them into an awkward position for something so trivial.
Turning to close her door, Claire pulled the train of the rose colored dress out of the way. It had a small pattern of flowers on the back fabric that made up the train, the front fabric was solid but with small panels of a glossy satin striped down it to accentuate an already statuesque appearance. She had pulled up her hair and piled it high in the back, tucked securely in place with combs. She hid these, decorative as they were, with several fresh roses from the garden.
Making her way to the patio, she stood at the entrance a moment to get her bearings and to catch sight of the guest of honor if she had already arrived from the catacombs below. Her eyes caught sight of Sorin and she nodded once to her Sire before heading in the direction of the new clan member. She could speak to the Elder of the Night after she had welcomed Fallon.
Coming to stand just outside of the circle that included the young woman, Claire waited for a chance to speak.
Well thankfully both clans share many traits, even the Orphans too... so there should be someone to help you with almost anything you develop. And now you have the essence of us within you.. so you should fall more in line with us I would think.
The tom's eyes locked on the approaching vampire and he stilled his motions. About the same time Amby felt as well as heard someone walking up behind her, and Louis was busy relaying details as he watched intently.
'Calm down petitte it's just a cousin..' He made Amberelle want to giggle with his protectiveness, but she guessed old habits died hard.
I'm afraid it's nothing as.. exotic.. as Cyrus. Simply an ordinary domestic cat. But that does have advantages. She smiled at Fallon, then turned to include the newcomer. Don't let me monopolize you, Fallon, tonight is for you to get to know everyone after all.. I don't think we've met, she said to the pretty dark haired girl who'd joined them. Holding out her hand with a warm smile, the blonde introduced herself. Amberelle De'Espionne, formerly of New Orleans.. and that scamp down there is Louis.
Once the glass of wine was fully drained, though, he decided he had enough of people watching. He could only learn so much by lurking, after all; it was time to jump into the fray, though he thought certain Irish nightsmen would be proud of his careful restraint.
He was about to join the cluster when he observed a gentleman with a musical instrument in hand. One of those hand held harp jobs, interesting. Intrigued, he broke into an inviting smile and stepped closer, slipping off his sunglasses, which he had donned at the sight of all those candles, in his pocket. Between the closer distance and the lack of shades, Palmer was able to make the connection just before he embarrassed himself.
“Goodness, but you’re just the man I’m looking for.” Coming around to fully meet Sorin’s eyes, he broadened his smile to show teeth and offered his hand. “Palmer Calhoun, Order of the Hunt, at your service. And –you- can be no other than the esteemed Elder of the Night I have heard so much about.”
He had no idea if Sorin would recognize his name, considering some time had passed since the Elder last had reason to hear it, but he wasn’t overly concerned with that. He would likely have to clear up who he was and why he was here in any case.
“Might I have a word?”
"There is beauty in the little house cat as well." She returned, with a smile and a direct glance at the little cat, wandering around their feet.
Looking around at the rest of the clan milling about, Fallon shook her head.
"You're not monopolizing my time...I'm sure I will meet more of the family soon. For now it would appear they are all enjoying the party."
Coincidentally, another woman walked towards them then, and Fallon watched Amberelle welcome her, noting she did not know this new woman either. Was the clan that big, or maybe some were just not as social as others...then too, maybe some were new to Nachton too. Fallon smiled at the new woman, and held her hand out as well, but made sure Cyrus' hand was in her other.
"And I am Fallon Tierney...who formerly didn't really exist, but who is now deliriously happy here in Nachton." She laughed softly, and looked to Cyrus to see if he knew this lady.
