The After Party (Event Continued...)
Rupert directed the rest of the staff around the lower patio, arranging various vintages and glasses on crisp white table clothes with red trim. He had brought out what his son would likely call 'the good stuff' and his oh so charming ex wife would call the 'ninety dollar ass kissing', this being a special occasion, and idly examined a slightly tinted glass for spots while the patio was set.
The ceremony should be over soon and the Anantya would begin filtering in, barring any misfortunes, the nature of which Rupert did not care to contemplate. He wondered vaguely just how rowdy of a crowd they were going to have, especially considering certain new arrivals, and mentally planned ways of getting the fine glassware rotated out and the newer, less valuable glasses in their stead as the group's intoxication increased.
With such small arrangements floating through the back of his mind, he looked to the Cathedral, watching expectantly for people to begin making their way up the hill.
Indeed, though her parents like any other people, had their flaws, lack of love was not among them. Richard and Elsa were still fascinated with each other, and Ysabel personally found it endearing.
When Cyrus mentioned having bought some property nearby, she glanced at Fallon and back at him with her eyebrows raised curiously.
"Do you mind if I ask where? I've also recently acquired a new home, not far from here at all. As far as I know, there are very few estates of that nature."
At her question of where he scented the air around them, closing his eyes and knowing that when they reopened the lights of the house and patio would reflect eerily from them. Sifting through the scents, Fallon's being the closest until he caught his own and his head pointed in that direction.
"My assistant found me two properties, which together the 57 acres lie to the East of here." Opening his eyes he wished he could see their home, as it would look once finished. He and Fallon would have an amazing estate.
Turning his reflective eyes to Ysabel he smiled slightly. "We have a construction site for our new home, a 1930's house with temporary accommodations just for us and enough forest for me to be comfortable."
Unable to hide the pleasure from her face at the mention of their new home, Fallon curled into Cyrus' side as his arm found it's way around her. She had no problem with the show of affection, nor would it have bothered her to know there was more behind the hug. More and more Fallon was seeing Cyrus as her mate, and relished the idea that he felt the same and wanted the information public.
"You really do need to come by...I know the new house will be perfect, but the little house has beauty and character too, and I love it, along with the grounds. Its a beautiful place."
She hadn't intended on interrupting, but got caught up in Cyrus' enthusiasm. Once she heard what she had said she blushed, and looked down at the ground by her feet. She had come a long way, but still had a bit farther to travel.
It suddenly occurred to her that there wasn't a lot of land directly to the east. "You know," she said slowly, "I think you just might be my neighbors."
She gave a soft laugh at that. What a coincidence it would be. Or, perhaps not... the property bordered Anantya land. It made sense that other Anantya would want to live on their own, but close by.
"Its quite possible we are neighbors, though I have not explored in that direction much. Prefering to stick to the preserve rather than upset new neighbors."
Not all horses liked his scent, but the few that did not mind, he enjoyed. Riding was now a pleasure, not the neccessity of his youth. Since Ysabel had said 'mares' perhaps he should warn her about his scent and avoid the area so as not to upset them should they be breeding stock.
"If they are a bit high strung it may be best if I did not get too close. Very few horses tollerate the scent of leopard well."
"You would all be more than welcome to visit, if you like," Ysabel's gaze included the quiet Amberelle as well. "My mares shouldn't be at all high strung. I breed for quality and sensibility, and I would be greatly disappointed if a strange scent set them off like nattering chickens."
If indeed she had a shapeshifter living next door, it would be to her advantage to have him come out and meet her horses before she started breeding them, so they could become accustomed to his scent as easily as possible.
Out of respect for their clanmate, he would have to stake out her property. Perhaps mark it with his scent and claim it as his own against other predators but stay away in leopard form. The tall and spindly horses most raised now always seemed to be high strung. Nothing like the short and sturdy horses he had on his estate in China. A familiar kept good care of those horses and was well aware that their sponsor would always want to breed to the exact requirements. Of course it was now probably a familiars great grandchild running the show but the income came from Cyrus and he kept the ideals as they had been.
Cyrus wondered if his kitten knew how to ride or even liked horses. His hand pet along her hip gently, considering asking but decided at the last minute not to. If Ysabel had not been in Nachton long that ment she had bought the property next door perhaps right before them. While he could wish he had been faster and gotten the entire chunk of land for himself he could see no better owner than a clanmate. With his free hand he checked his pockets for a card but only came up with Suki's. With an appologetic shrug he handed it to Ysabel
"Here is my familiar's card, unfortunately I do not think I brought one of my own. But please feel free to contact her if you wish to get together some evening. Knowing you are new to the area she will probably send over flowers and wine or knowing your a clansmate, a different type of fluid in the wine bottle."
It was exciting to hear that Ysabel was a neighbor, and the fact that she had horses added to the excitement. It never occurred to her that Cyrus had so many issues with his leopard form, but he had been living this life for so long now, he obviously had all aspects of it under control. That Ysabel took the information in stride was a relief. Of course things here were a lot different from anywhere else Fallon had ever lived, and it was apparently no big deal to hear your neighbor was a cloud leopard, any more than it was to hear your neighbor had a peculiar feeding habit, or never ventured from their home during daylight hours. She did wonder though, if there was any such thing as a bigoted vampire. Fallon didn't think that would be too unusual, they all came from humans after all, and must have brought along the traits and beliefs they had before being turned. She had, even if she was trying to change now.
Still feeling a bit reserved, she nodded when Cyrus accepted Ysabel's offer. When the conversation turned to Suki, Fallon felt it necessary to comment.
"I'm sorry, I'm still getting used to the term 'familiar', but I just have to add that our Suki is phenomenal. You know, when someone refers to another person as a 'gem'? Suki has to be the person they coined that from...she is the most organized, and capable person I've ever met in my life."
Fallon hoped she didn't sound silly going on about Suki like that, or that Cyrus would care that she had semi commandeered Suki as an aide, and more importantly as a friend. But it was all true, and Fallon felt very strongly for the human. Knowing Cyrus was more formal than she, and from the old school of customs, she would never think to chastise him for reducing Suki to what Fallon considered to be the mere position of familiar. Suki had quickly grown to be much more to Fallon, and Fallon felt compelled to have that knowledge known.
She let the thought drop there though, not sure what the protocol was between vampires and the familiars of others. She would need to talk to Cyrus about it more later. She was happy Cyrus had no compunction about sharing Suki's services.
"Thank you," she said, nodding her head politely and tucking the card into her handbag. "I'm certain she must be all that you say. She sounds like a treasure indeed."
Ysabel was delighted to meet so many people so far who seemed to enjoy horses. She had her three riding horses, and it pleased her to think she wouldn't always have to ride alone. Perhaps Cyrus and Fallon would like to ride with her sometime. She had good reason to believe that even if Cyrus' scent made them a little nervous at first, the horses would calm down soon.
They had already accepted her offer and agreed to come visit, so she smiled and said, "I will let Suki know when the caretakers have settled in. I don't wish to disturb them until they've all had a chance to grow accustomed to their new homes."
Ysabel didn't plan to stay on her property; instead, the small house there was given to two of her father's employees, a couple with a young child. The husband and wife took care of the horses together, and had been with the Yolgraves for years. They wouldn't question Ysabel's comings and goings at odd hours.
Bearing in mind the fact that she'd monopolized their attention for far logner than she'd intended, Ysabel offered another little curtsey to Fallon, Cyrus, and Amberelle. Giving her new clan mate one more brief hug, she said, "It has been a pleasure to meet you all. Please feel free to come see me. I should be here at the Manor quite a bit. I'm afraid I don't have a phone yet, but I will get one soon. I believe I've taken you out of the spotlight for long enough, Fallon dear, and there are more admirers here to wish you well. I'll convey your greetings to Richard, Cyrus, and am sure he will send along his own in short order once he knows you're here."
Ysabel allowed herself to fade back a bit with that, and mingled for only a few more moments before the lures of her comfortable new suite and a book drew her back into the Manor.

He noted that several clanmates were on the balcony, drinking sake if his nose was not befuddled by the copius amounts of open alcohol on the patio. Some of the crowd from the ceremony had already dispersed making Cyrus wonder when they could make their escape. He trailed his hand up and down her spine and resisted the urge to nuzzle his head in the smooth skin of her neck and shoulder.
With Ysabel's curtsey, and Cyrus' bow, Fallon felt she should curtsey too. But having never done it before, she was more afraid of making a mockery of the gesture, and merely nodded and smiled in response.
Cyrus' hand on her back sent shivers and tingles through her, and it was all she could do to remain calm and quiet next to him. Had they been alone she was sure some loud noise would have come forth from her mouth, before she threw herself at him. But after going through the initiation, making her way from the catacombs, and meeting these lovely people, she would rather die than make a fool out of herself now.
So she settled for just subtly rubbing against his side.
"Shall we call it a night, Cyrus? As much as this evening has meant to me, and as much as I appreciate the attention, I'm thinking no one would miss us if we snuck out now."
It seemed everyone was elsewhere now anyway, having left the party altogether, or gone off to different parts of the patio and balcony. There would be a lot more time in the future to get to know the rest of her clan. Fallon no longer felt the urgency to do everything now. Life could slow down indeed, and she would remain perfectly happy.
Turning to face him in his arms, Fallon discreetly brushed her lips against his, and smiled.
"Let's go home love."
And without hesitation, he joined her as they made there way off the manor grounds, and back to her little cottage. The celebration would no doubt, continue there...for a while anyway.
