There Is NO Rum

Coffee brewing, check. Mead chilled, check, fool around with boyfriend... check. Boy it was a good thing that they started getting ready early. Eiryk still had time for a quick shower while Alex finished cooking. Apparently, he was not welcome in the kitchen while cooking was happening. It was probably for the best.

He had a number of movies ready to go, with Pirates of the Caribbean being first up. That was more to torment Rowan than anything. He also half hoped everyone had seen it so they didn't have to be too quiet or pay too much attention.

Sliding into the kitchen and wrapped his arms around Alex, resting his head on Alex's shoulder and lightly kissing his cheek.

"You don't mind giving up our night do you? I just thought it might be nice."

Besides he needed to know what happened with that room Chris had taken over.

Christian Bern 13 years ago
Christian crunched his popcorn and refrained from giving any scoring to the banter between the two men. He wondered briefly if Rowan really was the older of the two of them as Eiryk's teasing nickname was any indication. The redhead's return fire was less than stellar and Cris remembered Rowan being more witty the last time he'd seen him.

Alex apparently had quite the past if his mention of drinking, drugs and orgies was true. He doubted it would shock anyone in the room, except perhaps his boyfriend. After a while, vampires became a jaded lot.

The rules of the game were agreed upon and a shot was poured for each of them. He sent one last message to Alfarinn suggesting that perhaps there was some urgent need for him. The answer was, of course, not a chance. Christian was glad that he did not have to be into work the next day either because it might be necessary in order to sleep off the results of tonight.

They quickly did four shots and Chris felt the room tilt ever so slightly. He sat back after the fourth and closed his eyes for a moment. Space aligned itself again and he figured that he'd be fine if he didn't make any sudden movements. His blood was definitely warm and his muscles were relaxed. This didn't seem to be going as bad as he thought it would.
Rowan Murphy 13 years ago
Rowan waved his hand at Eiryk somewhat tiredly even though at this point he was mostly awake. He wasn't about to explain his sudden lack of cleverness. "I'll aim a little higher next time," he said with a grin.

Alex's past he'd heard of before when they'd met, so it didn't surprise him much to hear their drinking games had been tied into the outrageous parties the human had described from his younger years. Rowan did laugh though.
"You're not getting old. You're just developing a more refined taste."

He tipped his first shot of rum up and supplemented it with some of Eiryk's mead. He wanted to finish that before he was too drunk to taste it. He did manage to do so just as they rapidly downed three more shots. Rowan was not surprised to see Alex keep pace without trouble.

He did catch a glimpse of bright blue as Christian closed his eyes briefly and reopened them. Raising an eyebrow he reached out discreetly and touched Christian's leg, giving him a questioning look.

There were plenty more shots coming, after all... good thing no one lived far away.
Eiryk 13 years ago
"I've seen your aim." Eiryk said to Rowan, "I'll just stand right here in front of you and it will all be OK."

Actually if memory served Rowan was not a bad marksman. But since when did the truth have anything to do with teasing?

Eiryk just softly ran his fingers through Alex's hair. Dangerous shit for a human to be doing. But it was over now, and as long as Alex had him all his orgies would have points. That might have been a bit more suggestive than he'd planned, at least he hadn't said it aloud.

Lord, that was a lot of shots straight off the bat. He'd forgotten this scene. Eiryk was starting to wish he'd eaten before the movie rather than planning on after, especially if Alex was going to be drunk. Tomorrow was soon enough and he'd played this game enough that he'd be fine.

"That's 'mpossible." Eiryk said at the screen as Jack and Wil pulled a boat underwater and started walking. "Saw it on Mythbusters."

Besides, everyone knew you carried a boat over land. Well pirates might under understand that but they built such big boats.

The initial four shots were followed by another two in fast succession. Alex was possibly just fine after the first round but the second round made him blink a little. Who knew they said Black Pearl that many times in the beginning of the movie alone?

He smiled over at Rowan, a sort of ironic smile given their respective ages.
"Is that what they're calling it?"

Over the course of the next hour they all learned that, go figure, when you named a movie 'The Curse of the Black Pearl' the name tended to come up more than five or six times.

They were up to nine, and they were barely halfway through the movie. Eiryk was definitely feeling it; and over on the other side of the room Rowan, at least, had become progressively quieter although he still looked ridiculously alert. Alex, however, used to seeing drunks in various forms, could tell that the redhead was doing a pretty well-practiced impression of the typical 'drunk acting sober' persona.

For his part, Alex just got that much more snuggly with his boyfriend and watched the sword fighting on the deck of one of the ships with interest.

"That what you're going to teach me?" he asked Rowan. "I think that would be fun."
Christian Bern 13 years ago
The hand on his knee was unexpected, Cris tilted his head toward Rowan and gave him a small smile. The concern was touching and he wondered how bad he must look in order for the redhead to notice. Twirling one finger in the air, he pointed toward the ceiling and spoke quietly.

"The room only tilted slightly. Its fine now."

Several more drinks later and the movie was becoming more realistic. Certainly the sofa seemed to be swaying with the ships they were watching. Christian gripped the edge of the couch in a vain attempt to hold it steady.

The banter between Viking and Pirate continued on, and he was happy enough to listen. No witty comments would be forth coming from him if any more rum was consumed.

At Alex's comment he chuckled slightly, and added. "Its all fun and games until they're really trying to kill you."

And then its just fun. A voice somewhere in his head laughed and asked how many shots had been consumed. Cris rolled his eyes toward the ceiling and counted. Nine. The amused voice told him he was a light weight and asked how he had managed for so many years in the military. He scowled mentally at its owner and sent back that -some- people's fighting didn't require alcohol for improvement.

Okay, so he could still manage witty. Who knew.
Rowan Murphy 13 years ago
Rowan grinned at Eiryk and shook his head. "That's the thing," he said. "You know how they say 'almost only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades?' Well, they forgot cannon balls. Trust me. 'Almost' counts with cannon balls too. So by all means stay right there."

Looking at Alex, who was comfortably resting against Eiryk, rum bottle handy for pouring the next round.
"I think it'll do. I'm sure there are other terms but I don't mind being tasteful!"

Nine shots into it they were all trying to consider swordfighting while each playing with varying degrees of drunkenness. Rowan chuckled at Christian's comment to Alex and noticed the blond clinging to the edge of the couch as if about to go overboard. Just watching him weave was slightly dizzying.

Rowan moved a little closer to Christian, grinning at Alex who, while glassy-eyed and clearly not anywhere within firing distance of sober, was holding out his arm and trying to mimic the sword thrusts on the screen before them. He nodded at the human and then tilted his head at Christian and shrugged. His message was, maybe, as clear as mud - surely Christian could out-drink the one human in the group? Granted, Alex was much larger than Christian and admittedly had had his share of binges but Christian was a vampire and Rowan was rooting for the home team.

It didn't hurt that the home team had a handsome face, gorgeous blue eyes, and a pair of capable hands that Rowan would prefer to grip something other than the couch. Sitting close as he was, Rowan figured if Christian did fall over at least either Rowan himself or the arm of the couch on the other side would catch him.

With that in mind, the Black Pearl was mentioned again and Alex poured; Rowan picked up his shot and Cristian's, offered Christian's to him with a grin, and drank. There was yet one more after that, too.

Rowan turned to Christian, impish grin still in place.
"Good word choice. I could almost think you'd played this game before."
Eiryk 13 years ago
"Swishy pokes. Why did I think you had better taste than that?"

Eiryk bemoaned Alex's enthusiasm even as he grinned warmly watching him mimic the actors, well try to. That was stupidly cute. With Alex sticking to him like Velcro it was hard not to be amused by his boyfriend, and harder still not to cross the 'we have company' line.

Christian accused his room of being tilted and Eiryk laughed. It really wasn't funny, but he laughed any way. If he had been a bit more clear headed he would have offered to loan the man a level out of one of his tool kits. His grin only broadened at the 'trying to kill you' comment.

"I always did like that game."

He said almost wistfully. OK so he wasn't a conventional Viking but he had been good at it and there was nothing quite like the mad surge of adrenaline when you raided a village, he could smell the smoke now. Ah, the good old days.

Eiryk knew he had to fire back at Rowan, but nothing was coming. Damned pirates and their rum. Of course, he hadn't stopped with the mead either but that was beside the point. He closed his eyes and tried to come up with something but only managed.

"Aye avast!"

Wait, that couldn't be right that had been a line earlier in the movie. With a chuckle he shrugged.

"OK you win that round."

Mmmmm arms full of Alex. He didn't care who won right now. His hands started wandering a bit, polite wandering but wandering. Not too suggestive or intimate, he just wanted to touch Alex was all.
Alex Aristos 13 years ago
Alex forgot how long it had been since he'd actually drunk this hard. Well... check that, it had been in January. But before that, a while. Eleven shots after they'd begun he was seeing stars. And trying not to be sick. That was the clincher for him; he refused to drink himself into a vomiting stupor in front of company. As it was, he was having a hard time keeping still, something that seemed to plague Christian as well; he noted the shorter man turning to Rowan and gesturing with a circled finger to the ceiling.

He fell silent, practicing his imaginary sword work as the words in the room just sort of flew past his ears. Eiryk's hands had begun to wander and it felt really nice.

His sword fighting arm was not working anymore. Nor was his shot-pouring arm, sadly. Someone liberated the bottle of rum from him before he dropped it, however.

That was fine with Alex. He watched the TV screen with slightly unfocused eyes, wrapping his arms around Eiryk and sighing happily.

"I think I lose," he mumbled at some point, but he wasn't sure when.
Christian Bern 13 years ago
Christian did have to agree, almost tended to count where cannon balls were concerned. It would seem that the alcohol had warmed the redhead's tongue and the witty replies were flowing much more easily now.

Alex was gesturing with an imaginary sword and Christian resisted the urge to correct drunken posture, just barely. The mentor in him wanted to be helpful but he realized now was not the time. He was after all quite inebriated himself, if he moved much he was going to fall over in an undignified heap.

Rowan was looking at him meaningfully and then Alex and then back to him. Christian frowned slightly as he tried to sort out the reason for the gesture. Surely he didn't want him to teach the man fencing. Cris recalled Rowan was skilled in the art and Alex had suggested that the redhead had offered his tutelage. That couldn't be it then. Was he asking him to curl up with him like Alex and Eiryk? Christian blinked at the two men happily piled together on the loveseat. They did look very affectionate and content. He returned his slow gaze back to the man next to him. Rowan was a clan mate and Cris realized he was drunk. Best not to assume anything.

The redhead held out another shot for him and Christian frowned. The comment about him making up the conditions of this particular game only deepened the expression. Drinking his shot, he loftily chose to ignore the remark and leaned forward to place the empty glass on the table. It made it there safely . He leaned backward...well mostly backward and somewhat slightly to left. Cris could tell he was not going to fall gracefully onto the couch and put a hand onto the sofa in order to stop the inevitable meeting with the floor. That maneuver would have worked if his arms weren't made of jelly. It did at least slow him down.
Rowan Murphy 13 years ago
Fortunately for Rowan he got a second wind and his next comeback sank Eiryk's battleship. Alex's sword arm looked a bit noodle-like and shortly after that he seemed to give up, curled comfortably up with Eiryk and staring in the general direction of the TV. Rowan thought quickly enough to retrieve the bottle of rum, saving it from an untimely death.

Rowan realized very quickly that he had not gotten his message across to Christian. The blond's confusion was evident and, he thought, adorable. Why did he have to look cute? Rowan had no idea what Christian's preferences were, and he was not in the habit of hitting on straight men. Or vastly inebriated ones. Rowan did have standards, and generally did not have to get a man or woman hammered to be interested in him.

That said, though, he was also not going to let a drinking buddy hit the floor when there was a comfortable sofa handy, so when Christian listed sideways, clearly off balance, Rowan stood halfway and slipped his arm around Christian's waist, stopping his inevitable crash and easily propelling him back onto the couch again. He watched Christian for a moment, making sure he was all right.

"Okay, then?" he asked softly, with a grin. If his hand lingered on the other man's back for a moment, it was just that he was... making sure.

The ship was mentioned again on the TV screen. Sighing determinedly, he looked over at Eiryk and poured three shots.
"Still awake, Jensen? I haven't quite kicked your ass yet."

He turned to Cris and raised an eyebrow. Receiving an affirmative from both men he doled out the rum and they drank again.

And again.

And then once more.

By then, Rowan was spinning pleasantly along with the room and, presumably, everyone else. He put his shotglass back on the tray with exaggerated care, making sure he didn't repeat Christian's near fall, and sat down once more, his leg touching the blond's. He was just trying to help hold him upright. Honestly.
Eiryk 13 years ago
It was probably rude but Eiryk was a little more focused on Alex than on his other guest. He was stupidly snugly cute. And very very drunk. He carefully cradled Alex against him and bent down to kiss his forehead.

"Come the morning you might win."

Hangovers could be ugly things. With a contented sigh he leaned back to watch the movie a bit as Christian gave up the ghost too. What was more interesting was Rowan taking a care of the man. It wasn't over the top, it was subtle. And Eiryk would probably forget by tomorrow night.

"You know better than that Rue. I can still take you."

Typically the two of them were almost evenly matched, Eiryk might have a -bit- of an edge but it wasn't much if any.

Wow, that was a lot of shots and he was certain there were at least two more, probably three yet. But having thrown down the gauntlet he couldn't back off. Alex could cosset him in the morning. He should probably clean up a bit too.

"We could call it a draw."

Then he might be able to get Alex tucked into bed. And fall in right after him.

"Or just save time and plan on a rematch."
Christian Bern 13 years ago
He felt an arm wrap around his waist before his face hit the floor. Cris mumbled a 'thank you' as he was set back up onto the sofa. The hand on his back was warm and comforting. He smiled and sighed softly. Working his hands beneath him, he managed to lever himself back upright. The room spun dangerously but Christian stayed still and it settled down to a lazy swirl.

Christian gave Rowan a smile and a 'yes' when he was asked if he was still up for another shot. He probably should have given in and just let the alcohol run its course but he had committed to this game and he was going to see it through, at least as far as he could.

Which wasn't much longer. The characters seemed determined to sabotage his efforts to see the end of the movie. He leaned back on the couch again and closed his eyes. It was just for a second. He'd open them again when the Pearl was next mentioned. At least that was his intention but the couch was comfortable; he snuggled down further, curling up against the warm shoulder that was conveniently close by with a contented sigh.

He heard the key word again and mumbled his defeat as well. "I concede."
Rowan Murphy 13 years ago
Rowan couldn't help smiling at Eiryk and Alex. He didn't need empathy to confirm his longtime friend was very much in love. And he liked Alexander a lot, too. Then he laughed as, almost in one breath, Eiryk both threw down the gauntlet and offered a draw.

"You're committed now," Rowan said with a grin. "Let's do this."

Christian seemed quietly stoic, leaning back and closing his eyes. Then he leaned in toward Rowan and rested against his shoulder. Rowan looked down in surprise, but it didn't take a rocket scientist to figure out what to do. Even Rowan's drink-addled brain latched onto it. He slid his arm out around Christian and rested it on his shoulder, patting it lightly to let him know he didn't mind being used as a pillow.

When the Pearl was next mentioned Eiryk reached out to pour the next shot and Rowan reached out to get his glass without jostling Christian. He heard the blond's voice waft up, softly throwing in the towel. Probably a good idea. Rowan did his shot and then tilted his head down.
"Well played," he said, laughter in his voice although he didn't let it out loud.

He leaned back against the couch once more, bringing Christian along with him and tucking him up against his shoulder again. Turning his attention back to the movie, which was a lot harder to follow all of a sudden, Rowan smiled contentedly at Eiryk. He was certainly ready to finish the game and the movie both. As long as he didn't move too horribly far he should be okay. He was pretty sure Christian wasn't going anywhere either, and that fact would have been more pleasing if he knew it was less because his clan mate was hammered and more because Rowan was charming and irresistible but either way it was comfortable where they were.

"I don't think you have what it takes," he jibed at Eiryk, trying very hard to enunciate around the slur in his voice. Just because he was comfortable and complacent did not mean he was giving up. The harder challenge was going to be not falling asleep, between the long work shift, the vast quantity of alcohol in his system, and the fact that he was having a nice spontaneous cuddle that felt very, very good.
Eiryk 13 years ago
Lord he hadn't done this since January. Eiryk drank on a regular basis, he wasn't an alcoholic or addicted but it was very much habit and something he did every day happy or sad rain or shine it just was. But this was some damned hard drinking.

"Bring it on. I can still take you."

But he was going to be hard pressed to keep this up much longer.

He knew there was one more shot at the very end, turned out there was three. Eiryk started giggling as he poured the second and watched Rue cuddle up with Christian. Apparently fancy knives, chocolate and clocks only went so far. It was also kind of cute to see Rue with some one. Eiryk sort of hoped something might happen.

The final shot was poured and knocked back. Eiryk had never been so glad to see the credits roll. Both he and Rue seemed to have made it through.

"We win again."

He said... or slurred., before leaning against the back of the love seat and just letting his head flop back and staring at the ceiling.

"We have to move don't we. Did you want to stay here? We can get Christian set up too."

He listed for Rowan's answer but at the same time, with a -great- deal of effort and concentration Eiryk very gently disengaged from Alex and stood, wobbly, but stood. He shuffled off enough to turn the bed down and get a large glass of water and set it and some aspirin by Alex's side of the bed. He would, after all wake up first.
Christian Bern 13 years ago
Christian snuggled closer, getting more comfortable when an arm went around his shoulder. He could feel Rowan move beneath him as the other man leaned forward to drink his next shot. This was comfortable and the redhead didn't seem to mind. Normally he would be upset with himself for being so familiar with a near stranger but at the moment he was having a hard time being concerned. He must remember to apologize to Rowan tomorrow.

"Hmmm, ...by well... mean losing." He mumbled softly. " 'hen yesss."

He drifted in the pleasant first stages of sleep, hearing the movie and the other two men talking. It made a nice relaxing background sound to his alcohol numbed thoughts. The movie ended, he could tell by hearing the music.

Eiryk pronounced it a tie. Christian smiled and snuggled his cheek further into the corner of Rowan's neck. He said softly

"Congradulatshuns."

Realizing there was talk of needing to find him some place to sleep, Cris opened his eyes. "I can get home. Is...not far."
Rowan Murphy 13 years ago
Several more shots later, at the end of the movie, Rowan was chagrined to find himself tied with Eiryk and feeling like Alexander looked. If he'd known he wasn't going to be able to out drink Eiryk tonight, he'd have taken the draw five or six shots ago. As it was, he was going to have an interesting time of it.

He was reluctant to move. Christian had decided to get downright cuddly and Rowan was enjoying it. He watched Eiryk owlishly as the viking wove his way through his apartment, getting things ready for bed.

Christian had opened his eyes and stated his ability to get home in a slurred voice that made Rowan look down doubtfully. He rocked his head back toward Eiryk.

"It's okay," he said. "Gotta get home too."

Rowan needed his alarms to wake him up in time for his next shift.
"I can walk you home," he said to Christian. He didn't want the blond stumbling around the hallways in his condition.

Nevermind his own condition as he tried to carefully (and reluctantly) shift Christian away from him.
" 'M sorry," he said softly. "Just sit here a minute."

Moving about as steadily as Eiryk had, Rowan stood and made short work of finding a home in the refrigerator for the leftover food. Then he located his shoes and leaned against the wall while he carefully inserted first one foot and then the other. Considering them, he decided against trying to bend over and tie them. It would be a bad idea on multiple levels.

Returning to the couch he roused Christian again, slipping his arm around him once more to help him stand. As Eiryk did much the same with Alex they all made their farewells with various degrees of slurring and general drunkenness.

As Rowan and Christian made their way out the door Rowan reflected that while it hadn't been a long night it had been fun and definitely relaxing. Surprising too, he added, looking down at Christian. Now it only remained to navigate the halls of Liefde without one or the other of them falling over.

Eiryk 13 years ago
Eiryk had made some feeble protests trying to get both Rowan and Christian to stay. Even if they both lived in the Towers it wasn't going to be an easy trip after all those shots. But they seemed determined, so he let them go. They were both grown ups after all.

Once their guests were gone he locked up after them and started trying to work out how to get Alex to bed. Ordinarily Eiryk would just carry him, but as he was having to be super careful about every little movie he made, adding Alex's weight to that would not help.

With some gentle nudges, pokes, pulls, nibbles and kisses he managed to coax Alex on to his feet and then to bed. Eiryk didn't even know how he did it but he managed to get Alex undressed and tucked in to bed and he followed suit very quickly. Flopping into the huge bed he immediately pulled Alex to him. Sighing happily into his boyfriend's neck they both fell asleep.
