Catching Up
Between classes and his job and more or less avoiding the Pack Navid hadn't seen as much of his cousin as he would like. As he should have. He had been sent here after all to keep an eye on her, to make sure she wasn't causing trouble. That fact that she was had made things difficult, but he'd stayed to make sure things didn't get out of hand.
So far things withing the Pack had been calm enough, there had been the occasional spot of trouble mostly directed at his cousin but nothing overt or ground shaking and nothing she hadn't handled well enough. At least, nothing he'd seen or heard about had been bad but if Guillaume were totally honest he knew that he'd been avoiding not just the Pack but Thérèse as well.
Even so, he'd slowly started to notice this was not the Thérèse he knew. She wasn't as open with those she didn't know. She was less eager to seek out new acquaintances, she didn't go out into the city at night. In fact, she was more often than not back to Shady Pines before sun down. It was all quite odd.
This evening though he'd persuaded her to met him at Terminus. After all, she'd never actually been inside. Guillaume had been out and about making himself useful here and there when Thérèse walked in and he had to laugh, he doubted Thérèse knew what a geek was as she was certainly more dressed for the night club aspect of Terminus that the gaming.
Excusing himself from the busy work he'd invented he greeted her.
"Bonsoir cousine." He quickly and familiarly kissed each of her cheeks "Vouliez-vous le grand tour?"
Tavi offered to put some colored... something or other... into his hair. Kiyo didn't mind; he kind of liked having his hair played with, just not tugged, and he didn't think Tavi would do anything like that. Maybe Evan would like it with a little color too.
Speak of the (incredibly handsome, sexy, kind) devil, Tavi brought up Evan next, wishing she could get him to let her do the same, he assumed. He smiled at her. "He might let you if you ask, he's very nice."
Kiyo though Evan's hair was already perfect - a beautiful sheet of black silk that was as luxurious as gold but as soft as sable. Especially when Evan was trailing it over his skin, across his chest... oh, bad move Kiyo.
He turned his attention back to the group in time to make an idiot of himself with the whole running thing. He nodded miserably when both Guillaume and Tavi corrected his very obvious misunderstanding.
"Right. Jogging," he mumbled, and drank some more. Or tried to... he was all out.
Fortunately a passing waitress, Cassie smiled at him and offered to get him a refill. Kiyo flashed her a brief smile, thanked her, and nodded after a moment's consideration. He was going to be drunk... but maybe it would help. God, he just hoped Evan didn't think less of him for it. Or Tavi. Any of them, really. Guillaume and Therese too.
"I'd probably pass on jogging," he said softly. "Thanks though."
Tavi, as understanding as she was, put herself between Kiyo and everyone else. The first serve went to Kiyo and he shook his head at Therese, answering her question before he hit the ball.
"It makes a little difference but a lot of it is the angle."
He demonstrated, showing her how to serve by swooshing his hand up and then back down. Not the competitive sort Kiyo didn't even attempt to smash a serve over to Guillaume's character. It sort of floated lazily over. Once Therese got the hang of it, Kiyo figured they could go a little harder.
"If you can persuade both Kiyoshi and Evan you may attempt to persuade me."
Yes that was as non-committal an answer as humanly possible but it was the only answer he would give. His jaw set as he listened to Thérèse so casually discuss their alpha and with such innuendo. There was something fundamentally wrong about that. Perhaps if he ignored it, it would go away. Or, at least, not be the topic of conversation.
Noticing that Kiyoshi's drink was empty and mentally raised an eyebrow, but at least he was some what calm.
"You two may run any where you wish and I think I will still win."
Noticing his cousin's look at that statement Guillaume's expression became rather wolfish.
"I plan to cheat of course."
It would be a very interesting challenge to try and work out how to beat them. He'd probably enjoy it and if they knew he was cheating, would it really be cheating? Tavi apparently had her own plans to cheat and announced them just as easily.
"Excellent advice. A warning or a nefarious plan?"
Kiyoshi served easily, probably in consideration for Thérèse. His instinct was that Tavi was not a novice at this game and could have taken advantage of that, but he would play nice for a bit too. But just a bit. Especially if he got hit in the head then all bets were off.
Tavi nodded to Guillaume and smiled. She now had a new way to pitch this idea to Evan that might work better than her original plan. She wondered if Guillaume knew how likely Evan was to do something like that just to see her come back and ask him again. She was sure if nothing else it meant she would be a return customer. Kiyo seemed to think the way to go was to ask Evan nicely which would probably work better than the body checking him and then wrestling him to the ground idea.
"Good call." Tavi smiled at Kiyoshi. "I am glad you two get along. And Guillaume too." She nodded over at the taller man. "Not all of us see mulo as individuals instead of monsters." Normally she wouldn't use that word to describe Evan but they were in public and calling him a vampire wasn't a good idea with all the people around.
They discussed locations and she nodded to Therese. "The woods are fun. There might be one or two things to jump over so we aren't completely bored." And they could run a little faster under the cover of the trees than they could out in the open on the beach. She narrowed her eyes at Guillaume. "And what would you do. Get a bike?" He couldn't get a car into the woods but if they set a location he could run to the car and drive to it...unless the end spot was in the woods as well. She would have to confer with Therese on how to foil her cousin's plans...whatever they might be. It sounded like a fun game.
"Mostly a warning." She said as she lobbed the ball back over to Therese and Guillaume. "I can't reach your head...at least not without making it obvious that I was attempting to do so." She could hop and hit him in the head but who would believe she was going for the ball then? "Controllers have gone flying at home." Her brother would have had a full grown cow if he had seen that. He was pretty easy going except where technology was involved. "And there have been some wii related injuries." Mostly just some random smacking with a controller or tripping each other up as both people ran for the same thing. It was great fun to watch.
The group moved away and he could no longer keep an eye on his werewolf. He wondered what they were up to and tried his best not to be jealous of the other people that were getting to spend time with 'his' Kiyoshi.
Cassie showed up a short time later with an empty glass of Pie. Evan raised his eyebrows when she told him that Kiyo requested another. He nodded and told her that he would take it to him. Then he called Angelina over to replace him for a few moments.
"I'll be back." There was another bartender there as well. They were showing the other vampire the ropes. So far Angelina was a quick and eager learner. He would expect nothing less of someone who had managed to live several hundred years as a vampire without a clan. She would make an excellent addition to the high end bartenders. She had even expressed a tentative interest in learning to flairtend. Of course he had told her that she would need to speak to Kiyoshi about that.
He took the empty glass, a small pitcher of Pie and a bottle of the wine that Guillaume had served to his friends and headed down the hall. Cassie had said they were in the Video Gaming Concourse.
It wasn't hard to find them. His room mate's head could be seen above nearly everyone else. They were at the far end of the long room, playing on the wii consoles which required more space around them for movement.
Evan raised his eyebrows, coming up just in time to hear Tavi mention something about the 'mulo'. He figured he was the likely subject of conversation. It seemed he was deemed an individual and not a monster. Well that was certainly an improvement.
Not wanting to interrupt their game, Evan stood toward the back so that he could watch their match. The tennis game shouldn't take long unless they were all very good at playing. He could afford to remain long enough to watch at least one.
He listened as they made plans for some running event, frowning slightly as Kiyo declined to go. It was not his place to interfere but his companion's feelings of being an outsider it did concern him greatly.
It also appeared that Guillaume was planning on cheating during this outing that they were planning. Evan snorted quietly to himself. He couldn't imagine why the tallest werewolf amongst them would need to cheat. Guillaume looked quite healthy. Evan always figured that he would be an excellent runner. Of course, Kiyo had explained some of his own abilities to him so perhaps there was something about the two women that he was missing. He mused over them both. Tavi had always reminded him of the energizer bunny. She seemed plenty agile but he didn't know how fast she was. The other woman had the long legs and lean frame you expected to see from a runner. She definitely looked that part. Guillaume likely knew more than he did. Evan wondered mischievously whether he could help his friend 'cheat'. After all what were friends for?
They were playing a nice game of tennis. He knew Guillaume was much better at the game than this but he suspected they were letting new players learn the game first.
Evan smiled at Cassie as she headed past with more drinks. She wouldn't have had to go all the way to the front bar to fill an order unless something special was asked for but that was the place he kept the large batches of Pie he made. There was no point in stocking each bar with it...though he supposed the gaming concourse did make a certain sort of sense. Still it wasn't a terrible inconvenience to come get a pitcher of it whenever there was a group of gamers expressing a desire to have some.
He looked over at the group playing the wii next to the werewolves. One girl was having a hard time getting her ball to go anywhere other than straight down in the game of Boom Blox they were playing. Evan moved a little closer to their group.
"Think of the ball as being on top of the controller." He gestured by placing the pitcher and bottle on top of his freehand. "Then flick your wrist to launch it toward the screen. Its not quite the same motion as throwing a baseball." She nodded to him and then turned back to the screen. Drawing her eyebrows down in concentration she held the controller up and then flicked it toward the screen. It smashed through several blocks and knocked over a cow. She squealed happily and jumped up and down. Then she ran over and gave him a hug, while saying 'thank you' a few times.
It seems Kiyo wasn't the only one drinking tonight. Evan gave her a one armed hug back, holding the drinks in his hand high and away from the exuberant young woman. "You're welcome" She turned and rushed back to her friends. He returned to his place behind Kiyo and the others.
((OOC: Feel free to notice him whenever you like. I had him say something to the other group so people would be able hear him 'lurking' in the background.))
Mulo? Thérèse smashed the ball back with no control at all, it was only luck that she had even hit it. Her chest tightened as fight and flight instincts warred with in her. She felt quite trapped, angry, and afraid. Afraid and helpless, her keeper had been more cautious, less demanding but he wasn't gone. For all she knew he was handing her off to another. And then there was the shock of her cousine being in business with a mulo! Was he controlled too? Tavi? Kiyo?
She snarled at Navid in angry rapid French using aggression to cover her fear.
"What in the world were you thinking, how... where is he? I need to know. Now.â€
There was more to say, and she tried to say it but as usual her mental choke collar tightened and she couldn't. Navid had no idea what he'd done. Any other conversation, the game, was all forgotten. Her jaw flexed unconsciously as she considered her next course of action. She couldn't leave the others they were potentially in danger and she couldn't leave on her own, she'd be too exposed... she was trapped.
((OOC... green is French))
At Tavi's words Kiyo shrugged again, blushing. He thought his particular views would not be widely accepted so he didn't often speak of them. He had very little in the way of inherited memories, though, and he often wondered if it was because he'd been Gifted by a wolf who was newly Gifted himself. Either way he didn't fear the mulo with the usual vehemence of his kind. He wasn't so stupid as to believe they could all be shiny happy friends but Kiyo did not have an immediate fight or flight reaction when faced with them. Maybe it gave him an advantage, as backwards as that might sound?
He let the discussion of racing go on without his input, grateful to not have to contribute. He wondered why Guillaume would have to cheat, but he didn't know anything about Tavi or Therese's abilities. Perhaps they were faster than Guillaume; his words surely seemed to indicate that. Kiyo wondered what Guillaume's particular talents were but his speculation was brief.
Therese's reaction as she hit the ball toward Kiyo was amazing. Kiyo stared at her for a moment, blinking, only just barely returning the ball to the other side of the net. He understood enough French to get the gist of her words, but to a wolf with heightened powers of observation her body language spoke volumes.
He could see her tense and saw the muscles in her jaw flex... almost as if she wanted to bite something. Because of Evan? Hadn't she realized who Guillaume ran Terminus with? Evan was the heart and soul of this place. He'd made it a place for their kind to be themselves, as much as they could be, out of kindness and desire to help.
Therese's reaction wasn't uncommon among his kind though. Kiyo warred with himself. It wasn't in his nature to argue but Evan. Evan! He had very strong feelings for Evan and he wouldn't let him be maligned.
"Evan isn't like the rest," he said softly, but there was an edge to his voice... was it anger? Something. Maybe it was the drink speaking. "You shouldn't judge."
He immediately looked away. He shouldn't have spoken. "Sorry," he said to the whole group. He had spoken out of turn; for Kiyo, the words he'd uttered were as close to open warfare as he could get. Therese might not know that but Tavi certainly knew him well enough to understand. Guillaume might too, Kiyo wasn't sure.
Then he heard Evan's voice nearby and he couldn't help turning toward it. He saw a tipsy gamer girl hug Evan at his advice and suffered a stab of jealousy, not toward Evan for receiving the hug but for the fact that the hug was not from him. Evan moved back toward them after disengaging himself from the girl and Kiyo watched him. He wanted to warn his partner that there could be trouble over here, with their group, but he didn't know how. He raised his eyebrows at Evan, glanced at Therese, and very very subtly shook his head. He didn't know if Evan would pick up on the signal but he had to try.
Mindful of their previous argument and how badly that had damaged their relationship he kept his temper in check and responded calmly.
"It is his bar. He could be any where although last I saw him he was behind the bar up front. I should have introduced you.â€
Surprised by his cousine's reaction and even more surprised by Kiyo's defending Evan he half missed half forgot to return the ball. Navid knew Kiyo and Evan got on well enough and the skittish wolf felt more at ease with Evan than with him so it wasn't odd that Kiyo would like Evan it was just odd that he would say -anything- or contradict some one.
"It is hard for some of us...†He said softly as he laid a hand on his cousine's shoulder hoping to calm her somewhat. But they had shared so many experiences they were from the same family...
Hearing Evan's voice and following Kiyo's look he took the bull by the horns and grinned at Evan and waved the vampire in question over.
"Here he is now, you should at least meet him.â€
Undoubtedly if they had been shifted Thérèse would have bitten him, but he was certain she'd be at least civil and if not... Evan would at least accept his apology later. He was fairly certain of that.
((OOC... green is French but you knew that didn't you))
However, perhaps... Her father had said someone was following Therese and that a team of Legionnaires were watching her at all times when she wasn't on pack grounds. Vaughn had asked if she would be willing to help them track this person down if they found anything more out. Of course she would. Her father needed her for something? She'd give him the moon if he asked, if she could. She'd definitely exhaust herself trying. But she'd have done it for Therese anyway had anyone said her friend was in trouble.
She just figured it was someone following the new love interest of the Alpha which was why her dad had been so concerned about it. Tavi wouldn't put much past her mother but she didn't think even Loretta would stoop to having someone else take out her competition. No, if Loretta Emiliano wanted Therese dead she would have done it herself.
But maybe, it wasn't at all related to Therese's relationship with Vaughn. Maybe this overreaction had more behind it. If it were a vampire then there was danger to them all. The mulo were fabled to be able to do all kinds of things, each one more frightening than the last.
Tavi looked around when Kiyo spoke up. She raised her eyebrows and then slowly smiled at him. "Don't be sorry, Kiyo." She placed a hand on his arm and gave it a gentle squeeze. Putting her tiny form in front of him, Tavi turned toward Therese. "He's right. Evan a été nous aider pendant des siècles. " She tilted her chin stubbornly at the taller woman. "J'ai des souvenirs, passé et présent, pour le prouver."
Softening her tone at Guillaume's words, she nodded. "Yes, it is." She glanced over at him. How could she explain her guess to him without making it obvious? Was it really her place? Why hadn't Therese told him herself? Perhaps the vampire threatened her, or her family, or Vaughn? She'd kill the bastard herself if that last one was the case. Just hide and watch! No one, not even a centuries old dead guy, threatened her family. Only she was allowed to do that.
She was only guessing; she could be wrong but she knew something was going on with Therese and she doubted that Guillaume knew about it. Call that last bit a detective's hunch but there you go. He certainly seemed shocked her reaction along with the rest of them.
Evan's voice broke into her mystery solving thoughts. She looked over at him and shrugged. Had he been there long? He probably spoke French. She knew he spoke Spanish after she had dropped off a small family to be relocated from some Central American country she couldn't remember. The mother seemed more at ease with Evan than her. You dye your hair pink and no one has any faith in you. Perhaps Evan just looked like a big strong man capable of defending them. He was all that for sure.
Tavi wondered idly whether he could defend himself from one crazed R'asa she wolf if she decided to go all medieval on his ass.
"Hi Evan!" She waved a little too cheerfully. Heh, heh, no big bad wolves here! Not us.
((OOC: French in green. Lol, couldn't resist. She said. "Evan has been aiding us for centuries. I have the memories, both past and present, to prove it." ))
Kiyo's quiet voice broke through the tense French being spoken between the two dark haired wolves. His partner was standing up for him despite being almost terrified of Guillaume for some reason that he had yet to really make sense of. It was endearing. He was disagreeing with several members of his pack, no less. That had to have been difficult.
Tavi was a surprise but somehow less of one. The girl was aggressive and rebellious by nature. Taking up for a vampire did seem pretty against the flow. So that had to be right up her alley. However, he wouldn't cheapen her support that way. She had been a friend for years now. They met in England while she was still a cop and he was coming to fetch a few werewolves who needed a quick evacuation. Some clanless vampires had gotten together and decided to pick on someone else for a change. Tavi had hardly glanced twice at him, had barely seemed nervous around him at all. She had asked him all kinds of crazy questions. Could he fly? Could he turn into a bat? Did he hate the taste of garlic, etc? He found the interrogation amusing and answered all her questions patiently.
He poured Kiyo his drink and then set the pitcher and the bottle down on one of the tall tables near the group but out of the way of the play area. Evan moved up when Guillaume outed his presence to the woman who had demanded to know where he was. Tada! Poof, like magic. Here I am!
This close and he could see she had similar startling green eyes to Guillaume. Interesting. They couldn't be fully brother and sister, at least it wasn't likely, but there did seem to be more than the eyes that were similar now that he was looking. She was tall like Guillaume, dark of hair, refined of feature. She was French but that was a different dialect that his friend's. Relatives or just an interesting coincidence? He didn't know enough about werewolves to be sure one way or the other. Maybe a lot of them were French. Wasn't there a movie about werewolves in Paris? He really couldn't be sure she was a werewolf, except for her association with the others around her and her violent reaction at hearing the word 'mulo'. Those were pretty good indicators though. Evan did not come up next to her. Instead he walked over to stand behind the flairtender who had stood up for him so valiantly. Returning the newly replenished glass to Kiyo, he put his hands on the small werewolf's shoulders.
"Thanks for the vote of confidence." He smiled at Kiyo and then over at Tavi who had also put in a good word for him. He couldn't afford to be more moved by Kiyo's words or seem to have a smile that was only for him. "She might have reason to be upset. Has one of my kind done you harm?" Evan was careful not to say what kind that was.
Shrugging slightly, he said. "If so, saying we are all different probably won't mean much." Evan sighed softly and stayed where he was. The woman, if she were going to trust him at all, needed to come to him. Going to her would likely be viewed as aggressive. "But I promise you, not as mulo, but as a friend to the people here with you, that I won't hurt you."
Dear God the entire Pack had been brainwashed. Kiyoshi she knew had odd views on vampires and she didn't fully trust him as a result. She very nearly snapped at him now but he was quick to apologize and both Navid and Tavi seemed to be on his side. It was like a bad dream, how could so many be on the side of the mulo? Did Vaughn know?
Out numbered and surrounded she didn't know who to or what statement to address first. Guillaume seemed quite comfortable with the monster, he was in business with him. Tavi trusted him and was willing to voucher for him for centuries she said. Centuries. It was surreal.
Before she could say anything, assuming she would be able to, the mulo was there and speaking to them. Thérèse stood very still and without even considering it began to seriously study him. She had a knack for finding strengths and weaknesses in a fighter and just because this... thing wasn't her keeper didn't make him any less dangerous.
It was probably a very foolish thing to do but she stood straighter and squared her shoulders as she quite deliberately walked toward him. He was big, even larger than Navid and she placed herself within his reach, silently daring him, challenging him. She couldn't answer his question, that was an impossibility, her keeper had seen to that, but she could make him prove his words. Of course, if he made even a slightly aggressive move she'd respond in kind.
"As you say monsieur. I'm sure we can all just get along."
She smiled, but even a blind man wouldn't have believed the expression for a second.
Evan's words were meant to soothe but Kiyo nearly bristled when Therese moved toward him in spite of them. He might be the token omega wolf but maybe that gave him greater insight into the situation. There wasn't a good move Evan could make in this situation. If he moved toward Therese he was aggressive. If he moved away he relinquished territory. If they remained at a stalemate no progress would be made.
Kiyo, however, could move in. He wasn't a submissive little bitch for nothing. Therese couldn't respond to him the same way as she could respond to Evan or even Tavi. She could attack him but it wasn't really instinctive to any wolf, to attack a submissive packmate who was demonstrating it.
He quickly moved between Tavi and Evan, confronting Therese even though he had to look up at her. She now had to physically move him out of the way, or back down herself. He quickly turned his head, flashing his throat at her.
"This is Evan's bar," he said softly, so that no one else around could hear unless their ears were as sensitive as the four people around him. "He belongs here."
He was trembling, pretty sure he might wet himself if Therese made a sudden move. But Evan was his to protect. He would protect him. Lover or not, Evan (and Guillaume, obviously), had taken him in and given him a job. As far as Kiyo was concerned Evan was part of his Pack.
The implication that Therese did not belong wasn't intentional, but she should know better than to threaten a wolf in his own territory. Evan might not be a wolf but the principal was the same.
There wasn't anything he could do, if he interfered she'd turn on him. While he could handle Thérèse she typically had a bit of an edge on him. More to the point any such confrontation would draw far more attention than any one wanted. It was possible for Evan to get out of this, not easy, but possible. At least it was up until Kiyo put himself right in the middle of things. What in hell's name was that all about? It was not normal behavior for their bartender.
He winced slightly when Kiyo implied Thérèse did not belong. It was a good thing he'd shown submission already because pushing Thérèse away from the Pack, even that subtly wasn't exactly clever. Not that his cousine was being terribly smart. No he'd not pin this mess on any one person. Of course even with Kiyoshi there she didn't back down, and continued to hold her ground.
The challenge had been made to Evan, he couldn't get involved. That was the conclusion Navid ultimately reached. Certainly he'd act if things got out of hand but right now this was between Thérèse and Evan. All Guillaume was able to do was count on Thérèse not wanting to call too much attention to them and to what they were and Evan's ability to extricate himself from Thérèse without injuring her too badly.
He'd consider all the anomalies and their possible meanings and implications later.
Cause Tavi didn't know how Evan felt about it but she'd have a hard time not being pissed off with someone challenging her like that, especially after trying to offer a peaceful solution.
It was probably a good thing he wasn't a wolf or there would be fur flying, or at least fists, right here in front of everyone.
Of course to get close enough to challenge Evan, Therese had to get even closer to her. Tavi made a low growling warning noise deep in her throat. Someone needed to back the fuck up because she was encroaching on her personal space. Moreover, Tavi had said that Evan was a friend and it was obvious that she would knock some sense into Therese if she had to. Pack mates didn't let other pack mates act stupid in public. And fighting a vampire in front of a crowd, in his own home, when he had helped so many of their kind was stupid.
Before it got to that Kiyoshi pushed out from behind her and moved between her and Therese. She raised her eyebrows incredulously at the little wolf. He was protecting his friend in his own way, by trying to make peace.
Tavi snorted a disbelieving sort of laugh and shook her head. It was smart and had to have taken a lot of guts. She reached out and squeezed Kiyo's shoulder in thanks and then turned partially around to Evan, putting a hand on his chest and moved them both to the side, giving them a little more space without specifically backing them up. Kiyo's bravery wasn't going to be for nothing.
"What did you put in that drink?!" She laughed softly and smiled at Kiyo. "That's some good stuff."
She glanced over at Guillaume and gave him a 'help would be appreciated' pleading look with the raised eyebrows and the barest of nods toward his relative. Evan was his friend right? Kiyoshi was doing his best to diffuse a tense situation; the least the rest of them could do was help.
He watched her move toward him with calm, almost bored eyes. It was not the first time he had been in a pissing match, not even the first time with a werewolf. After several thousand years they get old. This is my brave dance, my fierce look, my big swagger and I'm betting that its bigger than yours. Giving in to such behavior was petty when it wasn't necessary to protect himself or a loved one.
Evan glanced down at Tavi when the shorter woman made a sound that was soft, low and menacing. It wasn't an overt threat but the implications were pretty obvious. Therese seemed to have forgotten the other woman was there.
He sighed softly. He didn't want it to come to violence in public for him.
"Yes, I am sure we can." Evan replied calmly despite her lack of belief in her own words.
Before he could do or say anything more though, Kiyo moved forward out of his reach and stood in front of both him and Tavi and right in front of Therese. It was all Evan could do not to clutch at the back of the man's hoodie and yank him back to safety. The woman was his pack mate, right? She wouldn't hurt one of her own.
Kiyo's soft words were touching and so was the gesture. Evan would have to thank him later, in private when he got the chance. It had been a brave thing to do and it shouldn't go unrewarded.
Apparently Tavi thought so too. She laughed and shook her head and some of the tension seemed to leave the space. Kiyo's actions broke the ice and she was willing to let it go. Evan smiled down at her and allowed her to guide him toward the side so that they all had more room.
"Would you believe its just a little pie?"
He glanced over at Guillaume who had said nothing and wondered what his business partner was thinking. Was this his relative? Did he want to see her hurt? Or their business venture jeopardized? Or did he just have enough faith in a vampire's ability to remain calm when faced with four werewolves. If so, that was a lot of faith.
Turning his attention to his room mate, he said. "We could all talk about this much better upstairs if there is anything else that needs to be said." Not here in front of the humans. You know the innocent, by-standing, playing paying customers.
When Kiyoshi decided to insert himself into the middle of the conflict Thérèse's first instinct was to simply take him out, but he wasn't exactly challenging her. He was, but he wasn't. Her cold steady challenging gaze moved away from the mulo and to the little wolf though.
"I never said he didn't.â€
Her voice was low and warning. Tavi's growl, however, checked her just a bit. She lowered her shoulders slightly. As if on queue Thérèse felt Navid's hand on her wrist and he gently guided her away from what was rapidly becoming a mess.
Dear God she was losing her mind. She had no control at all where the mulo were concerned it seemed. She should very probably be locked up or shot the way she was behaving.
Refusing to turn away from the monster she pressed at her forehead as if she had a headache while commands and loopholes and closed loopholes and memories both her's and the Packs warred.
"I think I might need a drink.â€
There was no way she would give the mulo her back, nor would she leave she didn't consider herself beaten, but she had backed down. Of course there was also no way she was going to go any where outside of the public eye with a mulo and three packmates who would side with it.
"Non, merci. I think we understand each other.â€
It was as close to an apology as he was ever likely to get. And while she'd never trust him, he hadn't responded, he hadn't given her a reason to challenge him further. She could behave, mostly. It would be fine now.
When Therese broke eye contact with Evan and switched it to him instead Kiyo nearly passed out in fear. But Tavi moved Evan to the side and Guillaume got Therese to back away and the situation seemed to improve greatly.
Was it okay to puke now?
Kiyo smiled weakly at Tavi's jest about the drink. He deliberately turned his back to Therese and reached for his drink, knowing his face was pale and his hands were shaking badly. He noted the pitcher and the bottle Evan had thoughtfully brought. He took a healthy drink, likely more than he needed, and turned back to Therese. "More wine?" he offered, then considered the pie and held that up. "Maybe something a little stronger?"
Suddenly the room spun as he realized what he'd done. Everything he'd drunk recently came rushing back. He carefully set down what he was holding.
"'Scuse me," he said, swallowing hard.
Turning unsteadily, Kiyo wove toward the nearest bathroom, staggered into a stall, and lost everything he'd drunk in the last twenty minutes.
Very brave, he thought as he hung over the toilet. Totally studly. Big bad wolf. Riiiight.
He didn't think she would, the atmosphere which had been so charged just a moment ago had calmed considerably. Obviously he needed to talk to Thérèse and find out what the hell that was all about, as well as apologize to Evan.
Guillaume almost laughed when Kiyo immediately went to play bar tender, but refrained. It had taken rather more courage that he'd thought Kiyo had possessed to step in between Evan and Thérèse like that. He placed her glass of wine in Thérèse's hand and frowned as she all but clutched it, his concern only grew as Kiyo excused himself.
"I think he may need a raise.â€
He wanted to follow after Kiyo and make sure Thérèse hadn't actually hurt the man but he also didn't want to leave her alone with Tavi and Evan. Mostly Evan, and mostly because he didn't want Thérèse doing anything stupid and going after him.
"I hope he is all right...â€
From behind him he heard Thérèse quietly answer, "I did not touch him.â€
"Once he comes back perhaps we should talk about this some where a bit quieter.â€
The funny thing was Navid didn't think anyone else on the concourse had any idea what had just happened and what had almost happened. People could be wonderfully oblivious.
Apparently Kiyoshi thought so also because he poured himself another one and drank heavily. He offered Therese another glass of wine or some of his Pie but then he turned a peculiar shade of green and asked to be excuse.
Poor guy, she felt bad for him.
She moved to go after him when she felt a hand on her shoulder. Turning around, she looked up at Evan.
He said. "I am sure he'd appreciate your concern but the other customers might not be as happy to see you in the men's room." He nodded toward Therese and Guillaume and said. "I'm less wanted here anyway. I'll go check on the light weight and make sure he's okay."
Tavi sighed and nodded. What he said made sense she supposed. She had wanted to protest that it was not the first men's bathroom she had been it probably wasn't a good enough excuse with both of the owners standing right there looking at her.
"Well..." She held up the bottle of wine to Guillaume. "Wishing you had a glass now?"
Looking over at Therese's cousin, she nodded. "I think somewhere quieter would be a good idea. Maybe upstairs or an office or something?"
She wiggled the bottle at Therese. "Want some more?" Tavi gave her a small concerned look. "Want me to call Dad? Maybe he can help." Cause he knows what the hell is going on. At least she hoped he did. Therese might feel better with Vaughn around. Tavi was convinced that all Vyusher R'asa felt better with the Sarkis present. She knew she did...course she'd never tell him that.
He had stopped Tavi from going after him, partially to not have to explain why a girl was in the men's room but mostly so he could go check on Kiyoshi himself. He hated having to be so casual about his lover's distress but he certainly couldn't afford to let anyone in that particular group know what was going on. Definitely not at the moment.
He came into the bathroom and took the magnetic backed plastic folder that held the cleaning checklist sign off sheet inside it from its customary place on the bathroom side of the metal door. Pulling a pen out of his pocket, he wrote a quick 'Out of Order" sign on a piece of paper towel. He slid that into the folder on the top of the cleaning schedule and then leaned out and stuck it onto the outside of the door. Then he came back inside and locked it behind him.
Kiyo was in the nearest stall and apparently had heaved up a decent amount of Pie already. Evan went to the sink and pulled down several hand fulls of paper towels. He wet both sets with cool water and then went and knelt next to Kiyoshi.
"You were brave back there, Little Wolf." He said quietly, placing a gentle hand on Kiyo's shoulder. "Here, Look at me." Evan handed the first set of wet towels to his partner to clean himself up with. At least Kiyoshi managed to get to the stall in time. Otherwise he might have had to go upstairs and get a change of clothes.
With the second set of paper towels, he gently wiped his lover's forehead and then bent forward and placed a tender kiss on it. "Thank you." Evan reached for Kiyo and helped him slowly down onto the floor and over to lean back against his chest, he slid his set of damp towels beneath his partner's hair and placed them on the back of Kiyo's neck.
"Just sit here with me for a minute and let the world stop spinning, Okay?" He held his lover still with hands cupped together in Kiyo's lap. He was being careful not to squeeze him too hard even though he wanted to hug his partner tightly to him and tell him everything would be okay.
After a moment of silence he said. "So now that you are drunk...Does that mean I get to take advantage of you later?"
She had very little sympathy for Kiyoshi. He is the one who had chosen to get involved and she hadn't touched him, which in itself was slightly remarkable he had interrupted where he wasn't wanted or needed. Let the others fuss over him. His departure did have one benefit, and that was the mulo left as well.
"Please.â€
She accepted the bottle and poured another glass, although she didn't drink it. She didn't dare risk being intoxicated with that thing about.
There was no easy answer to that simply question Tavi asked. Yes, she desperately wanted Vaughn there. But Vaughn, not the Sarkis. The Sarkis would have every right to be upset with her right now and she certainly didn't want Navid to meet his Alpha under such circumstances. And for her cousine to try and explain he was in business with a mulo... more importantly she wouldn't let the Alpha expose himself to a monster. Slowly she shook her head no. The potential ramifications out weighed her selfish wants.
"What exactly is there to talk about?â€
They had found themselves a dangerous friend and business partner, one who could turn on them and control them at any second. If he hadn't already. She'd not answer to two masters.
